How did you get involved in lumberjack sports?
I got involved in the sports by taking a summer course at Paul Smiths College in 2012. I then spent my entire college career on the woodsmen team before graduating in 2016.

When did you begin participating/competing in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®?
I first competed in the STIHL collegiate series in the Northeast Qualifier in 2015 where I was disqualified in two events. After, I started buying my own equipment and have been in competitions around the Northeast ever since. 2019 will be my first year in the professional series.

How do you train for STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®?
My training regimen varies throughout the year. During the offseason, it’s hard to find motivation to train the events when there’s no competitions for months and more importantly there’s snow and the wood is frozen. So, during that time, I train for the sport by heavy weightlifting 6 days a week along with cycling. During the season I continue my workout plan along with training the disciplines 3 or 4 times a week using a big weighted axe.

What's your best/strongest STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® discipline?
I would say my best event is between standing block and underhand — those are my favorite events so I tend to train for them the most.

Any advice for the collegiate competitors?
Learn the basics and proper techniques then make it your own. Everyone is different. Along with that, practice whatever events you want even if it’s not the event you’re supposed to compete in. You joined a team to have fun and cut wood so do just that! Be upbeat and motivational. I like to call it being the Richard Simmons of the team. Enjoy your time because it doesn’t last forever so cherish it.

What's your proudest moment in the sport?
My proudest moment in this sport are also my lows. The train wreck I had in the 2015 qualifier because it taught me to calm my emotions and relax. I cringe looking back on it, but now when I compete I don’t think about my nerves or failing, I just go out there and do what I know I can. I would always tell people I will get the pants someday and 2019 is my year and I owe that myself in 2015.
