With soft grips for increased comfort, the bike handle provides greater control and helps reduce operator fatigue.

  • Shoulder Strap / Carrying System
Using a shoulder strap or carrying system helps distribute the weight of the equipment for increased operator comfort and improved maneuverability.
  • Multi-Function Control Handle
Having easy access to all of the controls on one comfortable handle makes it easy to complete tasks so the operator’s hand never has to leave the handle.
  • IntelliCarb™ Compensating Carburetor
The IntelliCarb™ Compensating Carburetor measures the air pressure on the clean side of the air filter and adjusts the metering diaphragm in the carburetor. This keeps the RPM at a consistent level, even when the air filter begins to clog.
  • Tool-Free Handle Adjustment
The central wing nut enables easy adjustment without the use of tools. For transportation and space-saving storage, the handle can be rotated 90°.
  • Purge Pump Primer
By pressing the bulb, this small fuel pump delivers fuel to the carburetor, reducing the number of starting pulls needed after an extended break between uses.
  • Upright Translucent Fuel Tank
Allows operator to easily check fuel level before starting work. Upright position makes it easier to refill.
  • Protected Spark Arrestor Muffler
Has large baffles which reduce noise level and contains a screen designed to reduce the emission of sparks.
  • Protected Spark Plug
    Protected yet easy to change.
  • Simplified Starting Procedure
To get started, simply pump the fuel primer, set the choke and pull the starter cord. The built-in stop switch allows the user to turn off the engine with a simple press of the button. When the engine is off, the throttle lock automatically returns to the “start” setting. Your power tool will be ready to be started when you’re ready to get back to work.

FS 240 is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good product EXCEPT the how the shaft attaches to the head We have an inventory of dozens of these Stihl weed whackers. We have 250s (older model) and the newer 240s. We use the bike handlebar and also a commercial no-bump stationary head. The older trimmers were better in my opinion. The 240s have a design flaw. Where the shaft connects to the head is a bad design and weak material. We have 4 of the 250s which are not very old, that the head is spinning on the shaft. Pulled them apart to discover where the tightening bolt attaches to the head has snapped off, and the receiving end is now missing about 1/4 of the circumference. To get this piece off to replace it, requires taking apart the ENTIRE machine. It's a weak point in the construction with no easy access. I foresee huge repair bills for these. Very sad to say.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stout, reliable Get the harness set up before you begin to use the trimmer. It is not difficult but the harness may not stay in the best position during use. Could be locked down better once set.I am using the saw tooth blade mostly. Cuts as described. Removed the shroud for briars and vines. Whole lot easier.I wish it had a rotating head to get limbs that are about head high or a little higher.Weed eater works terrific. Don't blink. Using this to cut trails on a 40 acre plot that has never been cleared.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome cleaning s̶a̶w̶ trimmer! I’ve owned the FS460 for several years and its amazing around the farm. I’m in Shenandoah Valley, VA where there's lots of rocks in my hay fields, places a tractor and mower can’t go. Because of this, thistle and woody growth appear that is hard to cut. The FS460 destroys it, even cedars up to an inch in diameter, but its heavy for all day work. I bought the FS240 on a whim at my dealer and use it to cut heavy, tall grass, thistle, small autumn olive and the other woody weeds with ease using Stihl commercial square line. I soak the line overnight which makes a huge difference with line feeding. I can go all day with the FS240…its lightweight and powerful enough to get some serious work done. If you don’t need a blade, the FS240 is the clear choice. My only gripe are Stihl harnesses, which are not made for long torso/ tall people. On some terrain I have to stoop over which isn’t comfortable (I’m 6’ 2”). Given company headquarters are in Germany, where many tall people are, I would think harnesses would have a little more adjustment or trimmers could have adjustable length shafts to extend the head out a little farther. Some have said Husqvarna Pro harnesses are better due to more and thicker padding and additional adjustment that Stihl does not have. I hate to buy Husqvarna being a Stihl guy but comfort is important.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavier but a little stronger than the discontinued fs250 It hasn't let me down.very robust, even with the .095 line.probably overkill for most applications.as described, it's strong on roadside ditches and heavy undergrowth.very torque-strong;it winds quick and hard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this trimmer!! This thing is a beast! I immediately put it to work in a 5 acre pasture and it has run flawlessly from day one! Always starts first pull, has plenty of power to cut through the thickest brush, and is easy on the back and arms. The Stihl harness that's includes really does eliminate most of the operator fatigue once you get it set up with a proper balance! I would recommend this trimmer to anyone who only wants to buy a trimmer one time in their life!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Runs Great! Starts great and runs like a champ so far. My 16 year old son has run it the most and I have not had to help him with it at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great power that starts easily with good gas efficiency. I debated hard on choosing between the FS 240 or 130. Can't comment on the 130, but very glad I purchased the FS 240. It has the power I need and has worked flawlessly. I spent many hours clearing new trails on my hunting land this spring, which was my primary criteria in selecting the FS 240, and it worked great. With sharp blades it will saw through saplings I assumed I would use my chainsaw on. You definitely want to use the harness to carry the weight, but with the harness I could do several hours of work nonstop. In addition to the power of the 240 it starts flawlessly and has surprising gas efficiency. Overall, just a fantastic tool. My only question is the harness. While it works OK, it does not have the same feel of quality and durability of the 240.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Put your old trimmers out by the curb I gave the protective ear muffs a poor rating only because there's no blue tooth.I understand that safety is paramount , but as a home owner a little creature comfort would be nice. Commercial users can have the boring muffs, homeowners muffs , maybe noise canceling with blue tooth link. The 240 is OUTSTANDING!!!, I can't imagine what you could do with a commercial unit .I tried my buddies 110 and was impressed with that , but working under the premise that more is better ,bought the 240, I was, and you too, will be amazed .Using the trim head, make sure you have nice comfortable running shoes . It will eviscerate grass at mildly quick sprint. The ditch line I used the grass blade . You could possibly use this to harvest winter rye or wheat .......if you had too.....just saying. You prepers reading this ???The harness is easy on the back and makes life easy . Wear safety gear , you will be green from head to foot.Yup it's a little early but had to try it out on my food plots , the 240 with the grass blade was more than adequate . Getting into the tight spots was awesome . I never planned to do this much with the unit in that quick of a time . Oh yeah , engineering ,you put hand warmers on a chainsaw why not put some LED lights on that 240.....sun was hanging low and I wanted to keep going......upset the neighbors to no end.Today, using the saw blade, I plan to cut some walking trails and shooting lanes through the woods.
