Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice but the auto head is a real pain. I love Stihl products, especially chainsaws. So, when I needed a new trimmer a dealer I knew recommended the FS 50 trimmer for my needs. Starts great , cuts well when the line is as it should be howevert this auto head doesn't work as it should. I had to tear it apart several timess and getting all that back together is a real pain, just to have the line stick again. Someone mentioned recall for the head unit. That would be a great idea.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Homeowner It's a good machine for the average home owner. If you want to cut down a 1/2 acre, I suggest a commercial product. Otherwise, easy to start, good power, and manageable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Head is terrible as other reviews state I have been a faithful Stihl customer and bypassed the reviews on this model because I couldn’t believe Stihl would have such a poor product. I discounted the poor reviews as user error only to find this auto feed head is total junk. Recall is the only solution here.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Auto-cut head- poor to say the least Very disappointed in this Stihl product. First Stihl I have owned. Had much cheaper trimmers that the line advanced very easily. I’ve had to pound and pound the head on the ground and most of the time the line didn’t advance. Took back to store and they said it worked fine! Hard to load line and advance line. Too expensive to get rid of so will have to live with and fight it every time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Starts easily but the auto head is terrible. Bought this trimmer 3 days ago. Used it once to trim some weeds in my yard took 2 1/2 hours and I only have a 1/4 acre. The auto line release doesn't work when the line would break and it did often I had to stop the machine and disassemble the head to get the line out and replace the line. So I went to the local dealer to get the head with polymer blades... well Stihl doesn't make a polymer blade head for this model. Why? I don't know... Stihl should make the polymer blade head for every model they sell. Would not recommend. Hoping I can exchange or get my money back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tap Action Autocut Head The string has jammed on this head requiring dis-assembly of the head to free the jam on several occasions, including the first time I used it (factory wound spool). Dis-assembly is also required should the line just break, which it has on several occasions. I would much prefer the durocut head which I use on my FS 40C....so I will now have to go purchase one of those.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Trimmer doesnt hold enough line Used it for a small job. The weeds were not high or thick and ran out line before I ran out of gas. So I'm am already having to buy replacement line. Tried buying attachment for the head to alleviate using the line and they will not work on this trimmer.
