Rated 1 out of 5 by from Best long curved shaft trimmer out there I rated it low so you will read this. I have the older model without the emission extras on there and I am happy with it. There are a lot of reviews about the line not feeding and the trimmer head being too cheap. Well that is partially true. You need to use the larger orange line with the trimmer. What you do to rewind it is to cut the line on an angle so that it will be skinny enough in the end to slip into the starter holes in the spool when you roll it. You need to also use 93 octane fuel with the stihl mix. Buy the more expensive one as it is synthetic. I do wish stilh would change their lables on the on off switch from reading I and o to read run and off or start and stop. I had a hard time starting the thing because I did not know what I and o mean. I know now that I means in and I means out. You must have it on i to make the thing start and run. All in all I like the trimmer. It's not too terribly expensive but can be a bit hard to start at times. Over all I would give it a 3.5 or 4 out of five. If it started a little better, I would give it a 5. However I would still say it is a good buy and well worth having. I do think stihl should increase the quality a little and raise the price a little or make a pro trimmer with this same curved shaft. It is so much more comfortable than a straight shaft.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Passed the lawn service test I own an up and coming lawn service in Duluth MN and have been in business for about 6 years now. I have 7 employees, 2 rigs, and a little over 120 lawns that I take care of. Stihl has always been my go to for small equipment. For the first 4 years I ran exclusively the fs50 and its predecessor the fs46. Employees like them because they are light, easy to start, and well balanced. I liked them because they are reliable and affordable. The only con is the exhaust will carbon up, and the curved shafts will break after they trim about 2000 lawns (12-20 lawns a day, 6 days a week; a solid year of service for each trimmer) considering its designed for the homeowner I find this really impressive. (Stihl also replaced all the shafts for free which is really I impressive)I own 6 of these now, and a few fs70s and fs94s. I am switching over to mainly fs94s just because with increasing customers i want trimmers that can run longer between fill ups, re-stringing, and shaft failures; but I will always have a few of these fs50s around as spares. Owning a business can be stressful enough getting good employees, managing the books, and keeping all the customers happy. I'm glad my stihl equipment doesn't add to these stresses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great trimmer! I have used "throw away" trimmers in the past that cost almost as much as my Stihl. There is no contest! The ease in starting is unmatched. I am in the process of replacing ail of my yard tools ( 3 so far) with Stihl with just a few to go. Thank you for making my yard work easier!
