    Stihl FS 56 RC-E Trimmer
After making the mistake of purchasing a trimmer from the local home center and it died after 10 minutes, I committed to paying a little extra for quality. I have had no problems starting this trimmer and it runs strong. the trimmer line is also heavier duty and doesn't break like the cheaper one I bought. Taking the bottom cap off for the trimmer line is very easy. I would HIGHLY recommend this trimmer.

    great trimmer
I bought this trimmer last April before the season started because i could not get my older 4 stroke started and decided to buy a new trimmer rather than monkey around with the old one. This trimmer is fairly light weight and feels good in the hands. It has great power , I used it in an overgrown ditch of a customers lawn i do and it performed great. The only complaint i have is that the head is sometimes a pain to spool.

    Easy to start
I have read reviews that were not to good for this trimmer but I have had the FS 40 CE trimmer for approx a month now, use it every week and it has performed to my expectations. It starts easy, runs good and the trimmer line advances with no problems. I run 89 octane fuel with stihl oil mix and I couldn’t ask for a better starting and running trimmer.

    Buy No Other
I use to buy a troy built trimmer about every other year from Lowe's and I'm hear to say I will never ever buy troy built ANYTHING again! This Stihl trimmer was 50 dollars cheaper then troy built and more powerful, never balking down. The Stihl never clogs and gets tangled in high grass like the troy built because it maintains power to eat through the job. Trimmer head design, comfort, power, weight, cutting ease, and dependability make me wish I had bought a Stihl years ago. Great Trimmer
So far, I am loving the trimmer. I'll give you the pro's and con's. Pro's: Great power upgrade from the electric trimmer I previously owned. It is super easy to start. It is super lightweight. It is fairly simple to work with for things like basic maintenance. Con's: The only real complaint I have with the trimmer is that the trimmer head is annoying when it doesn't auto feed. I had to take the head off and pull the string out 3 times when I was trimming, but I think this because it ... read more had cheap string that had melted together. I put a higher quality string on the trimmer, but I haven't used it yet.

    Outstanding product
Very easy to start. Reliable which is also important. Well balanced with comfortable shoulder strap. Ease of use and great control with handlebars. When doing extended trimming it doesn't wear out my guiding arm. String advance head works well to this point although my personal preference leans toward the ease of a straight line insertion type head. Overall I would highly recommend this trimmer.

Good product that takes time to learn how to use
Replaced an old competitive brand...my experience is don't expect to become proficient with the trimmer right away. It has great power, easy to maneuver and starts with 2 pulls...but then it is brand new...cuts grass and weeds like a maniac. Experienced some of the same initial line issues mentioned by other reviewers...lost the leads several times in the first minutes of operation...literally ate the line and emptied the spool in the first 30 minutes of run time. But then I noticed the head ... read more rotated in opposite direction from my old trimmer...coupled with watching a "professional" landscaper using his trimmer and with a little time I'm happy with performance. I'm no chemist but the recommendation of keeping the line in water seems a little bogus...the one dislike I have is the trimmer head guard is woefully insufficient...the trimmer throws material all over the place so make sure you protect your feet & legs as well as your eyes & face. Not a fan of the operator's manual...seems to have more cautions and warning than it does operating instructions.

    Great Trimmer
My dad has been running Stihls longer than I've been around, and I can see why. I bought this trimmer with the shown head, and just plowed through the brush in my backyard. It's also great for finishing work around trees or landscaping features. It's got great balance, and with the shoulder strap it's essentially weightless. I'm 6'3"-6'4" and didn't have to be bending over to use this trimmer. The Easy Start is incredible--you just have to pull the chord, not at a fast speed, the spring kicks in ... read more and it fires right up, which is handy if you need to stop the machine because you don't need to take the strap off your shoulder to start it up. I love the tap-to-feed feature--no need to stop the machine or use any tools for more string. If you're a weekend-warrior, I'd highly recommend this trimmer.

    I love this trimmer!
This trimmer is a dream to start. A couple or three pulls after cold start, and it is on. If the engine is already warm, one pull is all you need! The extra long shaft means less bending and less back strain; this model is not overly heavy, so it doesn't kill me to lift it and keep it moving. The 50:1 oil gas mixture makes the engine smoke less than other brands. The only knock I can find on this trimmer is that sometimes the line sticks to itself inside the trimmer and I have to re-thread the ... read more trimmer line. This is a very small knock as I have had other trimmer brands do this as well. Overall, this is by far the best trimmer I have ever owned. If you want a quality product, get a STIHL. You get so much more out of it than what you pay!

    Great string trimmer.
I have used Stihl chainsaws for years and this string trimmer is everything I expect from a Stihl product. The trimmer starts on the first or second pull and warms up quickly. The power the engine produces is very good and more than adequate for trimming tall tough Timothy grass. I chose this model because the curved shaft is longer than the FS 40 which makes it more comfortable for a taller person like me to use.

    FS 50 C-E
First of all, I absolutely HATE doing yard work. But I liked the idea of the extended shaft since I'm a big tall guy. Makes it a little easier to trim without breaking my back! Wish this trimmer had the heavier line, it does seem to break quicker than my real, real old Stihl that used the heavy line. Does a nice job overall. Did I mention that I HATE cutting grass and doing yard work? So anything that's going to make it easier I like -- and this trimmer is easy to operate and that makes the yard ... read more work bearable. My last Stihl trimmer lasted over twenty five (25) years -- if this one comes even close I'll be happy, even though -- and I'm not sure I made it clear -- I HATE yard work!! Have had it a month now and it seems to be a good, solid, reliable product, just as all my Stihl equipment is.
