    Mighty machine
Coming from a curved shaft homeowner to this straight shaft unit rotating in the opposite direction takes some getting used to, The power is significantly greater as well. With all trimmers, the string deployment is a central issue. You have to watch the line and not let it get too short, but the bump feed works well. I refilled the head yesterday. You almost wonder if there shouldn't be a factory wound spool you could just pop in, but it really didn't take that long. Practice I guess. Very nice machine.

A lot of power and value for a "homeowner" trimmer
I have owned this trimmer for three years now and have no buyers remorse. The clutched trimmer head is nice around flower beds, but can cut through really thick over growth. The straight shaft is nice for hard to reach areas. Low fuel and trimmer string consumption per operation, 6 gallons of fuel and still have original trimmer string in the head from when I bought it. The biggest surprise for me was the low noise level of the engine for the people around you, very nice for morning or evening ... read more workouts. I have owned two trimmers in the past and I feel this trimmer is everything Stihl advertises.

I really enjoy using this trimmer
I have never used a trimmer so easy to start. Once it starts, usually second pull, the machine runs smooth. It's easy to hold and manage around the yard. It has plenty of power and is lightweight to hang onto. I use the Stihl fuel to keep trimmer running top notch. I strongly recommend this model to any homeowner.

    Nice machine.
I like the machine,it starts easily and runs good,I have had some problems with the spool that holds the string. At first use I could not get it to advance any string, unless I shut it off and pulled it out by hand, I took it back and they looked at it,then I went home and used it to trim my yard and it seemed to work fine. I think the string was kinked up on the spool and thats why it wouldn't come out,so time will tell, but overall it is a nice piece of equipment.

    Great product for the price
Great trimmer for the price, my only issue is after choking and priming still takes 8 to 10 pulls to start!

3 years and Stihl going strong!!
I bought this trimmer 3 years ago and this bad boy is as strong as ever. I've not had any problems other than wearing the head out but that's going to happen if you use it a lot. TIP: ONLY use Stihl oil and ONLY use non-ethanol gas 89 octane or 91 octane. I've done this for 3 years now and my trimmer will start on the first pull every time. TAKE CARE OF YOUR STUFF! Keep good spark plugs and Stihl oil and non-ethanol gas and your Stihl will run for many, many years. I also have the BG 56c blower ... read more and it runs like a BOSS!! If you buy anything other than Stihl, then you're wasting your money! I know I sound like a spokesperson for Stihl but I honestly just love their products and think they are the best.

    Excellent trimmer
I am very pleased with this trimmer, can't beat the price on this trimmer with the bicycle handle. In the past had to buy the professional series trimmer to get the bicycle handle. It works better than my old FS85T does. Highly recommend.

First time Stihl owner, now a convert
I've used a lot of different weed trimmers in the past, from Ryobi to Toro, to WeedEater, even a couple of Cub Cadet ones, but never a Stihl. At least, that is, until I received this one. First of all, the starting system is so much nicer than any I've used in the past, although its hard to get used to not really feeling the engine kick over when pulling. The power is way better than I even expected it to be, even without being fully broken in yet My only knocks against it are having to use ... read more 89 octane gas and the fact that I have to bend over at an awkward angle to get it into cutting position. I'm 6'2", so I can't really fault the machine for that, but its something to consider. If there were such a thing as a shaft extension I would probably buy it In any case, I get why people love Stihl so much now; rock solid equipment at a rock solid price

Easy to start, light weight and dependable!!
Easy to start, light weight and dependable! I can really appreciate my FS 40! I was able to trim my front yard 1½ weeks after fracturing my clavicle. Starting is easy and requires only one pull. It’s well balanced and light weight so I can trim with precision. Very happy with my purchase.

This trimmer is what I was expecting and hoping for!
I bought this trimmer because I always hear great things about stihl and tired of buying junk. I have pretty thick grass & brush and it performs excellent, I don't always have the luxury or waiting for a nice day to cut my grass and trim due to my work schedule so I sometimes wait about a hour after it's done raining and go at it. I have not had one issue with this trimmer it powers through wet thick grass and lives up to its name. Two of my other co workers have the same model and say the same ... read more it works flawlessly!!
