Punishes growth that mowers can't reach!
After using Stihl trimmers at my work, and seeing how much abuse those trimmers took and kept trucking, I bought one for home. I couldn't be happier. I've been through many lesser brands and they aren't 1/2 the trimmer this is. Easily starts with power to slay the most stubborn growth. I've had mine for 3 years, and haven't had the first sign of issue. I would (and have) recommend this trimmer for anyone looking for a tool that will pay for itself.

    Stihl FS 56 RC-E Trimmer
After making the mistake of purchasing a trimmer from the local home center and it died after 10 minutes, I committed to paying a little extra for quality. I have had no problems starting this trimmer and it runs strong. the trimmer line is also heavier duty and doesn't break like the cheaper one I bought. Taking the bottom cap off for the trimmer line is very easy. I would HIGHLY recommend this trimmer.

    Starts every time!
I had two old trimmers, quality units but worn out. I got tired of pulling, and pulling, and pulling... I have a Stihl chainsaw, and use their equipment a lot with Samaritan’s Purse on disaster cleanup (hard use there!), so it was a no-brainer to buy a string trimmer from my local Stihl dealer. My only issue is with the handle at the balance point. It is loose, allowing the unit to turn upside down when carrying with one hand. A minor annoyance, and pretty easy to fix. The thing has plenty of ... read more power and the supplied string cuts great. Over-all, very happy with it.

    starts great
the string does not hold up at all. This is the stihl string. I put a different brand into it and it did do better. Next I may go up in string size and see if that takes care of the problem. I have 2 of these and the green Stihl string is useless because it breaks too easy.Other than that the trimmer starts and runs better than most trimmers I have used. If the string would not break so easy it would be 5 star and fantastic..............Joe

This trimmer is what I was expecting and hoping for!
I bought this trimmer because I always hear great things about stihl and tired of buying junk. I have pretty thick grass & brush and it performs excellent, I don't always have the luxury or waiting for a nice day to cut my grass and trim due to my work schedule so I sometimes wait about a hour after it's done raining and go at it. I have not had one issue with this trimmer it powers through wet thick grass and lives up to its name. Two of my other co workers have the same model and say the same ... read more it works flawlessly!!

This Product is a awesome machine at a reasonable price.
This lightweight and durable string trimmer is excellent for not only use around the home but also keeps up with everyday use as in small businesses. Overall an excellent product. Only downfall is the new head on the string trimmer with the two equal pieces of string. I really don't care for it.

    Outstanding product
Very easy to start. Reliable which is also important. Well balanced with comfortable shoulder strap. Ease of use and great control with handlebars. When doing extended trimming it doesn't wear out my guiding arm. String advance head works well to this point although my personal preference leans toward the ease of a straight line insertion type head. Overall I would highly recommend this trimmer.

Good product that takes time to learn how to use
Replaced an old competitive brand...my experience is don't expect to become proficient with the trimmer right away. It has great power, easy to maneuver and starts with 2 pulls...but then it is brand new...cuts grass and weeds like a maniac. Experienced some of the same initial line issues mentioned by other reviewers...lost the leads several times in the first minutes of operation...literally ate the line and emptied the spool in the first 30 minutes of run time. But then I noticed the head ... read more rotated in opposite direction from my old trimmer...coupled with watching a "professional" landscaper using his trimmer and with a little time I'm happy with performance. I'm no chemist but the recommendation of keeping the line in water seems a little bogus...the one dislike I have is the trimmer head guard is woefully insufficient...the trimmer throws material all over the place so make sure you protect your feet & legs as well as your eyes & face. Not a fan of the operator's manual...seems to have more cautions and warning than it does operating instructions.

You get what you pay for.
After years of buying inexpensive gas string trimmers ever 2 years I decided to give myself a break and get a quality machine. It came down to two highly recommended brands. However, the Sthl had a much more professional look. This SF-56 is the first straight shaft trimmer I have ever used so it took a few sessions to get comfortable with it, but I appreciate the longer shaft; reduces back strain. The ease of starting is one of the most appreciated features. My previous trimmers would start ... read more easily the first 6 months but most would become more difficult as time went on. This Sthl SF-56 has the feel of quality and I expect to get many years of satisfying service out of it.

    FS 50 C-E
First of all, I absolutely HATE doing yard work. But I liked the idea of the extended shaft since I'm a big tall guy. Makes it a little easier to trim without breaking my back! Wish this trimmer had the heavier line, it does seem to break quicker than my real, real old Stihl that used the heavy line. Does a nice job overall. Did I mention that I HATE cutting grass and doing yard work? So anything that's going to make it easier I like -- and this trimmer is easy to operate and that makes the yard ... read more work bearable. My last Stihl trimmer lasted over twenty five (25) years -- if this one comes even close I'll be happy, even though -- and I'm not sure I made it clear -- I HATE yard work!! Have had it a month now and it seems to be a good, solid, reliable product, just as all my Stihl equipment is.

Reqdy to work when you are
Easy to start, even for that first start in the spring (reliable) . The power is great, it will cut at partial throttle where my old trimmer had to be wide open. After two seasons of use the string head needed to be replaced, must have gotten a defective part, but the dealer was great. I am 6'8" and although this trimmer is still too short it is much better than the other trimmers that I have tried.

    Great string trimmer.
I have used Stihl chainsaws for years and this string trimmer is everything I expect from a Stihl product. The trimmer starts on the first or second pull and warms up quickly. The power the engine produces is very good and more than adequate for trimming tall tough Timothy grass. I chose this model because the curved shaft is longer than the FS 40 which makes it more comfortable for a taller person like me to use.
