Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great pruner, but light duty only. This review pertains to the current model PP-101, which my dealer tells me has superceded the PP-100. Mine was purchased in April 2019.Pros: -Extremely lightweight, you can use it for a long time without feeling any strain. -The blades are also impressively sharp right out of the box--far better than any pruning shears you'll find at a home improvement store. In my opinion the blades are every bit as good as a certain Swiss maker of pruners which is the gold standard in the industry.Cons: -The light weight comes with a price--which is that I'm unsure about the long term durability of this product. The shaft is a very thin walled aluminum tube; there's no doubt this works fine if you take care of your tools, but if you treat them rough I can see problems. When I bought this unit the first one that my dealer ordered in for me was bent during shipping. I can see that might happen very easily. If you are a landscaper or a contractor and you want to toss this in the back of a truck with other tools I don't think it would last very long. Ditto if you want to use it for larger/heavier work. There is a hook on the head of the tool to pull down cut branches, but I'd be wary of pulling hard with it. Also, the thin steel rod that transfers the force from the hand lever up to the blade is quite small and that does not inspire confidence. I'm sure I can squeeze the handle far harder than the tool can take. I'd keep in mind that this tool is NOT a replacement for a lopper, or even close to it. Stick with using it for small size branches and I'm sure it will last a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbeatable quality and utility. I have owned this product for 2 years now and I just love using it. Mine has the old style handle and the new ones feel much better. The old models had one tiny problem that was easily fixed. There is a small screw that acts as a stopper so that you don't rotate the handle completely as this would twist the innards and break something, and the screw was prone to falling out after extensive use. A drop of light epoxy on the screw threads and mine stayed put--easy fix. Now I use this for pruning just about everything: Japanese Maples, fruit trees, tall vines like Ivy and Jasmine, pittosporum, etc. It's also a great tool for pruning anything with thorns like reaching into a thick lime tree or large bougainvillea. This tool is very strong and can take a lot of abuse. I frequently leave this pruner outside and it shows no signs of corrosion anywhere. After 2 seasons of use the blade still cuts well despite never being sharpened. I have used both hands to squeeze the handle as hard as I can while trying to cut something i probably should have used another tool for, and I'm a fairly strong person at 6' 3" 275. I love tools that need no babying or hand-holding as they go through life and this pruner is just beyond exceptional in its durability. Yes I'm sure if you drove over it something bad would happen, but if you're driving over your tools, well, you have other more important problems you ought to deal with. This pruner saves you from having to use a ladder which increases both safety and efficiency. With this pruner it's nice to be able to make your cuts and be able to step back and assess your progress whereas with a ladder you have to keep going up and down the ladder. Anyway I probably sound like I'm a sales rep for this product or something but I can assure you that's not true. My affection for this tool is rooted in the fact that it makes my job easier, faster, and safer while costing very little and asking nothing in terms of maintenance. Keep the blade clean and you're good to go. I hope you enjoy this pruner as much as I do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well for small branches The PP 101, I find, is very handy for light trimming. It is light, very precise, made with Stihl quality and cuts through fruit tree branches, up to about 1/2 inch, easily. I would like to have a shorter one, maybe 3 or 4 feet, for trimming roses and hard to reach plants.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing I'm surprised this tool is in STIHL's professional line. The construction and quality are homeowner grade at best---not built for professional use. I expected more from STIHL for the price. I predict the PP101 will last half a season. Really, it's that cheaply constructed.
