A perfect tool for difficult pruning jobs that would be impossible otherwise.
A pricey specialty tool, but saves literally hours of time compared with trying to tackle pruning high branches by moving a step-ladder around and using a manual pole saw. This pole pruner allows me to complete needed chores that otherwise, realistically, would simply not get done. Excellent balance makes it feel lighter in use than its actual weight. Easy to aim and maneuver. Runs reliably. Narrow chain cuts well through even thick branches if you are patient and use correct angles. A gem of a ... read more product I wish I had bought 16 years ago.

Easyer than climbing the tree with a with an 023c
I have owned this polesaw for about half a year and it stihl works great. This pole saw has held is edge one several hundred cut on several tree types spruce , ash and from branch sizes from up to about 9 inches down to branches around 1/8 inch. The 1/4 chain has worked great for this pole saw , shaping the chain with an Oregon chain grinder will be my next step. I have used this saw to drop about a dozen small dead oak an ash trees and it keeps on going. After working and fixing stihl ... read more machines just under 2 decades has helped out a lot.

You Get What You Pay For
I have a 7 acre property with many trees that require pruning. I recently returned a 'disposable' pole saw from another manufacturer and decided to spend more money on the STIHL HT103 and I couldn't be happier! The durability and ease of operation are amazing. Additionally the reach provided by the telescoping action on this model makes it a breeze to get those higher branches. Disclaimer that I have only had a couple days of use on it but it has quickly become my new favorite. I am hoping that ... read more its longevity rivals that of my other STIHL purchases. One warning is that this saw is so easy to use and does such a good job that I found myself cutting ahead of what I could haul away to the burn pile! Overall a great product in a league of its own.

    More bang for your buck!!
Started my morning trimming a mesquite tree with a cheapo from the Depot. Had to stop working and took a short drive my local hardware store which happens to carry Stihl. Had a gas pole saw in my sights and on my mind, when I just happened to see the PP 800. Didn't have the funds for exactly the one I wanted the gas combi. Was a bit apprehensive about picking up another manual pole saw, how much could the difference be. Well when I got out of the truck and reached for my newly purchased PP 800 ... read more and proceeded to saw to my heart's content with little to no effort. Got lost in what I was doing and before I knew it my wife had to slap me around to let me know that I had trimmed more than what I was supposed to. Awsome tool highly recommend for any job

This saw makes me look good every time I use it!
Cutting trees and limbs that are right up against buildings, or could fall on objects, are easily dismantled from the top down and safely brought down. It's like having an 18 foot long surgeons scalpel and people are amazed when they see it in action. This is a professional quality tool and the best pole saw that I've ever used.

Great for reaching branches in high places.
I purchased the PP100 several years ago to prune branches on my property. It has proven to be an excellent hand tool for trimming and for reaching those hard to get branches. I would recommend the PP100 for those that demand HIGH QUALITY tools in their arsenal! You will be amazed at the size branches this tool will handle. Very useful tool!

    My go-to tool for trees
Love, Love, Love this pruner! A must-have for tree trimming. I have run over them with my truck & still works like a charm. The tool that comes up missing because everyone else wants to use it.

    Typical Stihl Quality
Bought this to trim some branches that I had to keep moving out of my way when mowing my lawn. Sliced through Red Oak limbs like they were nothing. Very sharp, great quality. A little pricey, but a lifetime warranty goes a long way to offset the price.

Great pruner, but light duty only.
This review pertains to the current model PP-101, which my dealer tells me has superceded the PP-100. Mine was purchased in April 2019. Pros: -Extremely lightweight, you can use it for a long time without feeling any strain. -The blades are also impressively sharp right out of the box--far better than any pruning shears you'll find at a home improvement store. In my opinion the blades are every bit as good as a certain Swiss maker of pruners which is the gold standard in the industry. Co ... read more ns: -The light weight comes with a price--which is that I'm unsure about the long term durability of this product. The shaft is a very thin walled aluminum tube; there's no doubt this works fine if you take care of your tools, but if you treat them rough I can see problems. When I bought this unit the first one that my dealer ordered in for me was bent during shipping. I can see that might happen very easily. If you are a landscaper or a contractor and you want to toss this in the back of a truck with other tools I don't think it would last very long. Ditto if you want to use it for larger/heavier work. There is a hook on the head of the tool to pull down cut branches, but I'd be wary of pulling hard with it. Also, the thin steel rod that transfers the force from the hand lever up to the blade is quite small and that does not inspire confidence. I'm sure I can squeeze the handle far harder than the tool can take. I'd keep in mind that this tool is NOT a replacement for a lopper, or even close to it. Stick with using it for small size branches and I'm sure it will last a long time.

    Unbeatable quality and utility.
I have owned this product for 2 years now and I just love using it. Mine has the old style handle and the new ones feel much better. The old models had one tiny problem that was easily fixed. There is a small screw that acts as a stopper so that you don't rotate the handle completely as this would twist the innards and break something, and the screw was prone to falling out after extensive use. A drop of light epoxy on the screw threads and mine stayed put--easy fix. Now I use this for ... read more pruning just about everything: Japanese Maples, fruit trees, tall vines like Ivy and Jasmine, pittosporum, etc. It's also a great tool for pruning anything with thorns like reaching into a thick lime tree or large bougainvillea. This tool is very strong and can take a lot of abuse. I frequently leave this pruner outside and it shows no signs of corrosion anywhere. After 2 seasons of use the blade still cuts well despite never being sharpened. I have used both hands to squeeze the handle as hard as I can while trying to cut something i probably should have used another tool for, and I'm a fairly strong person at 6' 3" 275. I love tools that need no babying or hand-holding as they go through life and this pruner is just beyond exceptional in its durability. Yes I'm sure if you drove over it something bad would happen, but if you're driving over your tools, well, you have other more important problems you ought to deal with. This pruner saves you from having to use a ladder which increases both safety and efficiency. With this pruner it's nice to be able to make your cuts and be able to step back and assess your progress whereas with a ladder you have to keep going up and down the ladder. Anyway I probably sound like I'm a sales rep for this product or something but I can assure you that's not true. My affection for this tool is rooted in the fact that it makes my job easier, faster, and safer while costing very little and asking nothing in terms of maintenance. Keep the blade clean and you're good to go. I hope you enjoy this pruner as much as I do.

    They finally got it right
2019 HT 131 finally got it right. I believe the HT 133 was an attempt of Stihl trying to cut corners and maximize profits. It was a total disaster... HT 131 improved the cheap designs of HT 133 and made an extremely powerful and stable pole saw with a 14 inch 3/8 blade that kicks butt... If you buy Stihl's engine oil or gas mixture, you will double the warranty on the pole saw. That increase it to 4 years. I have become a Stihl man again.

    Great value, great saw
Bought this saw to replace my trusty but old ht101. More power, uses less gas. Will cut 10 inch limbs like butter. Be careful not to get the bar pinched in a limb because it's a long way up to clear it. Much better saw than the one it replaced, glad I waited. My local Stihl dealer gave me good advise as always. Step up and get yourself one of these, you won't be disappointed.

    Outstanding!
I've had a Stihl pro chainsaw for 25 years and it's super reliable, also have a Stihl gas leaf blower. Big fan of Stihl products. I bought this pole pruner to replace a lousy battery powered one that was always frustrating to use. This saw is very well balanced, starts easy and idles perfectly. The chain is staying tight and is quite amazing in cutting power. I've been trimming live oak limbs (dense and hard wood) and this powers right through. Unless I'm cutting down an entire tree, this is ... read more my go-to saw. I do have one complaint, the design of the engine housing needs to be improved. As it is now the saw can't easily be stored in a vertical position - it doesn't have a flat space to rest on. I always have to fiddle with it to get it to stay in one position. Stihl has not solicited my review - I'm just a happy owner. Oh, I'm also 70 years old, in fairly good physical condition and handling this saw is well within my capability.

    Awesome Machine
Awesome engine design as a 4 stroke without a oil sump which has to use gas/oil mixture. Not sure how long this design has been on the market for durability but I'm giving its low end power and light weight an A+.
