Homeowners and tree care professionals now have a quiet, zero-exhaust emission, low vibration option for trimming overhead branches. Part of the STIHL battery-powered line, the HTA 85 runs on the same interchangeable battery system as other STIHL Lithium-Ion tools and offers long run times on a single charge – up to three hours depending on which battery –  with no gradual drop in performance. The HTA 85 telescopes to 12 feet for those tall tree-trimming tasks and requires minimal maintenance since it has no engine or filter. Reviews

HTA 85 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Home run product for me I have several Stihl battery products (pole saw, blower, hedge trimmer), all of which are great except the line trimmer (weed wacker). The line trimmer's head is poorly designed and leads to a lot of frustration. All of the products in this line have plenty of power and the battery lasts long enough. If you have more work to do than required for a normal subdivision lot, I would recommend getting a second battery and the upgraded charger. This saw is great because you never have to fight with the pull rope to get it started. Better yet, you never avoid stopping to clear debris because you don't want to start the engine again. Starting and stopping is just a push of a button and a trigger pull. Great chain speed on this device, cuts really well for its size, but because the chain and the teeth are smaller, you do have to sharpen and/or replace the chains more often. Is really good for clearing brush because you stand away from anything that will stick or cut you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful, quiet Polesaw. This saw was hard to get because nobody in the area could get them. After a few months, I found one, and snapped it up. I already had the HLA-65 hedge trimmer, and was sold on the Stihl battery products. My initial thought was that the saw was heavier than I expected, especially when it was extended to full length. That said, it is still a couple of pounds lighter than my low end gas pole saw. Once I got to actually use the saw on some trees, I was blown away by how well it cut. I was only trimming branches about 2 inches diameter about 15 feet off of the ground. This saw cut through them so easy it was a surprise. The branches were falling to the ground about a second after I put the saw to them. After about 5 minutes of use, I had a large pile of branches and limbs on the ground to dispose of. I thought I might use the pole saw to cut them shorter while they were on the ground, but that was difficult due to the weight being extended at the end of the pole. I may get the battery chainsaw some day to replace my Stihl Farmboss chainsaw. The battery equipment seems like the way to go for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this unit - does more than expected My wife had purchased the battery powered string trimmer a few years ago and we love it. I had decided I needed a pole pruner and had looked at gas powered units. I decided on the Stihl battery powered unit - we already had the battery and charger. I have used it several times for many different jobs. It has cut everything that I have felt safe cutting and some I haven't. It is heavier than lower priced units but will cut much more than they will. I have never had it bog down on a limb and have cut some at almost 8 inches in diameter. I am very happy with this unit and will be buying other Stihl battery powered units.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect trimmer for the job. My home is on a small lot with six 40 year old live oak trees, bordered on two sides with red tip photinias, all of which need yearly trimming. The Stihl HTA 85 is the perfect trimmer for the job. With the AP 300 battery inserted it is a well balanced design at any length, can be stored in areas a gasoline based tool cannot, and is far easier to maintain. I am extremely happy with this tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool We decided to go with the battery tool because of the difficulty my girlfriend has starting the gas powered tools. This tool rips through oak and pine with ease, and is so quiet. Battery life is excellent, used it several times and have yet to find the battery down below 1/2 of full charge. The only negative is the weight, as noted by the other reviewers. We are very satisfied with the purchase and also purchased the string trimmer which uses the same battery. I'll review that tool separately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet, Powerful I have been considering the battery powered line of tools from Stihl, because I hate when a tool won't start. For tools that I use a lot, weed eater, blower, etc, this is not a problem. Even my small (021) chainsaw runs often enough so that I don't usually have a problem. But my hedge trimmer, and my large saw, don't get used all that often, and I am always concerned that I need to fully drain the tank, and carb each time I use them. So when I decided to get a pole pruner, I looked at the battery line again. It is more expensive to start. For the complete set, battery, charger and tool, it cost about 25% more, but now I have the charger, and a battery, so if I decide to replace another tool, I will definitely consider battery power. So on to the meat of the review: The saw has plenty of power for the trimming I was doing. I was trimming branches 6-8" in diameter, and it didn't bog down at all. I used it for about an hour (obviously not running the saw all the time), and I got tired before the saw did. When I finished up, I still had about half the battery left, according to the LED display. The saw was heavier than I would have liked, but still lighter than the gas powered unit, and handled pretty well, even reaching higher than I probably should have safely done.I like the quiet of the saw, if for nothing else, I could hear when the limbs were starting to crack, so that I could get out of the way.All-in-all, I am very pleased with the saw, and I will consider other electric tools from Stihl. I don't regret this purchase at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The saw cuts very fast, power is not a problem Just bought this saw today to trim some tall oaks around my cabin. The saw is heavy with the large battery but is well balance with included carrying strap.Saw cuts very fast using little power from the battery. I used the saw for over an hour going around trees trimming branch, the instant start and stop make for quick work and long battery life. The saw cost held me back for awhile, but this is a professional tool that is well designed and work extremely well. No ladder is needed to trim trees around a two story house.
