    Excellent saw for the price
I have a farm and wanted a saw that is light to use for trimming back trees along fence rows. This saw fits this need like a well tailored suit. I use ethanol free 89 octane gas with Stihl ultra 2 cycle oil and Sea Foam. It starts great and has plenty of power. Easy on gas. Some of the bad reviews on this saw I think are operator error such as cheap, dirty, or old gas.If you use cheap gas you need to use a good additive to keep gas from going bad. Some are do to exceeded expectations of what the ... read more saw was designed for like, you want a light saw with big fuel capacity, but more gas adds more weight or your cutting trees that you need a bigger saw for. Another issue is not following the starting procedure. I also have a outdoor wood burner. In 2014 I bought a Stihl ms 311 it's been an excellent saw also.

    Stihl good after 3 years
Had this saw for 3 years now. Use it probably 6-10 times a year. I only use non-ethanol 89 or higher. Always use the right amount of oil and dump out old gas. Usually starts with 3 or 4 pulls for me. I have had it bog down a few times on me, but I am not cutting down tree after tree so I don't need the power of the big heavy saws. For it's size and weight I would say it's still pretty powerful. No real complaints. The bar will need to be cleaned every so often as well. It will clog up ... read more with shavings if you ever use a dull chain. That will keep the oiler from working and will get your bar hot. Keep a sharp chain to make big chips instead of saw dust and you will be ok. I was a beginner when buying this one. Had only used a chain saw a dozen or so times. So the saw has been easy to maintain and clean. Not sure what all the start issues are for everyone else.

    Been great so far!
Bought this 1 month ago. Running pure gas, (no ethanol) after 5 tank fulls with zero complaints. I've been running a saw for close to 20 years and was hesitant to buy a non-professional grade saw. I am pleased with the power of this saw, and it's been worked well for the short time of owning it. I dont regret buying it for one second, great home owner saw! If you want to avoid the restart issues others are having, only run ethanol free gas. But what do I know, I'm just some guy in a truck...

Excellent tool and must have for chainsaw owners
this is perfect tool if you need to cut logs on the ground. Excellent quality, material and finish. Just wish to get 60" version - currently own 48" and does the job very well. Do not wait - GET IT - you will not regret. I also got log stand with it to keep the log elevated from the ground - perfect combination. Will recommend to anyone.

    perfect small saw
perfect little saw. super lightweight. starts every time within seconds no matter if it's 20 degrees below zero or a miserable 95 degrees. This saw has plenty of power. if you think this saw doesn't have enough power you are doing something wrong. I use it for much more than I should from limbing anything, bucking medium sized wood, to felling small mountain harwood trees up to 14-16" diameter when I'm too lazy to take out a big saw. I used it ealrier today to buck some beech logs that were ... read more about 15" diameter. sharp chain and it cuts like a hot knife thru butter. my favorite saw I have ever owned. I've had it for about 3 years and haven't had any issues after about 300 hrs of use.

Light, starts easily, runs well. Seems to stay well cooled with continuous use.
Bought to help clear up dozens of sick and fallen trees on the family property. It supplements an MS 271 and an MS461. The saw, being light, is an excellent tool for limbing and bucking appropiately sized fallen timber. It starts and runs well. After break, in it runs very smoothly and has good throttle response. It is surprisingly stronger than what I expected from a saw rated at less than 2 horsepower. I have found that I use it for diameters greater than what I probably should. I let the 14 ... read more inch bar and chain do the cutting. I have yet to sharpen or change the green chain after hrs of use. It is still sharp. I have kept the chain out of the dirt, of course that helps. I run high octane premix with no problems. I realize that it is not a professional grade saw and understand it's intended use. It is without question a respectable solid tool.

Light weight, easy all day handling
Bought this saw for my wife to use based on it's weight. I have used it on multiple occasions to cut down/trim up to ~12 inch diameter trees and logs. I utilize the ethanol free premix fuel. Saw fires right up hot or cold and it is easy to handle. Runs out of fuel at a perfect 'take a break' point for me. All in all, a great little chain saw.

    Great, dependable big saw
I got tired of working on the 20-30 year old Stihl saws we were still using and broke down and got this saw 3 years ago. If I would have known how good this saw was I would have bought a new one years ago. I use it to fall trees and cut up the trunks of the tree because it is big and heavy. If you have a sharp chain and know what you’re doing this saw will cut threw any size tree on its own. I have a 20’ and 25’ bar and chain and it runs both with ease.

Like a hot knife through butter
This saw rips. First thing to do is ditch the factory green chain and get a real chain. After about three tanks of fuel this saw comes to life. My buddies don't even bother starting their saws because this saw cuts so fast through the red oak that all they have to do is toss the rounds in the truck, I do all the cutting. After owning many saws I finally bought a Stihl, I was debating on the pro 362 but thought I'd save the 120 bucks and get this saw and a cant hook for the same money. Great saw ... read more and the cant hook really saves your chains from hitting dirt. I highly recommend this saw to the weekend warrior like myself. Plenty of power and starts easily. Runs circles around my buddy's 290.

Great saw, looking forward to using it for years to come.
I had never used a Stihl chainsaw before even though i have used saws for over 30 years. I have mostly used another brand before this that was a pro level saw, really heavy and hard to crank. This saw is really close to the performance of that saw and in a much lighter package. I've never used a saw of this size range that would run this long on a tank of fuel. I've so far in the first couple weeks cut up 3 big Hickory trees, 2 big white oaks, 1 large Pine and a couple junk trees that i'm not ... read more sure what they are. It runs great, I feel it's at or just below the bottom level of the pro saws.

    Excellent Performance
I told the salesman I wanted a chainsaw that had enough power that it wouldn't bog down easily and this saw delivers! The 20" bar is great as this saw is big enough to cut down any tree on my property and small enough that I can cut off all the limbs to prep for the chipper without getting fatigued. The compression release makes cold starts easy and it runs great in hot and cold weather. There's no change in performance when turning the saw on it's side to cut the stump at ground level. I would ... read more recommend this saw to anyone looking for a great all around chainsaw

a pro saw for joe everyman
I'm not a professional by any stretch, but I work this saw hard. Felling/bucking dead pine and aspen for firewood, cutting trees that have fallen across single track trails, etc. Haven't tried to accomplish a job yet that this saw isn't up to. It's my third Stihl, and probably as big a saw as I'll ever need. If you're out there wondering whether a pro saw is overkill for a regular guy, the answer is no. A great all around saw that makes any job more fun.

So far I can say this saw has done what I expected
I have 2 gals of fuel though this saw so I would say it is broke well. I noticed the first 5 tanks of fuel when starting the saw it does not always like to go shortly after starting. In fact it dies on my occupationally when I take the saw off start (^) shortly after starting it. There is a line there you have to be careful about. You cant let it idle in ^ for too long or it goes into its reset mode. So this means you must keep a close eye on the saw and time when getting it started. I have also ... read more noticed you have to watch the chips coming from the saw. This saw will still cut reasonable well with a chain that really needs sharpened. I am sure running a not so sharp chain is hard on everything. I also own a 028 and I will grab the 362 every time because it is a much stronger saw, but the weight is comparable. I like the 028 but it is hard to pass up the extra power with the same weight. Only dislike so far is what appears to be a fully plastic wrap handle on a PRO saw. Not a big fan of that but I have been using this saw hard and have not broken the handle yet. I think it will happen eventually.

Great light saw with tons of power
I got this for removing trees in rivers that we have to kayak into. Naturally size and weight are important. However having the power thats packed into this saw is amazing. I'm glad I spent the extra money for this saw. This was my first saw with the decompression valve. WOW talk about a difference. I'm used to starting the old stihl 045 and 090 saws and they were beasts. This saw lets me start it when on unstable footing, even a boat. You know immediately if youve forgotten to use it. While ... read more you can still start the saw, the easy of starting when using the decompression valve is wonderful. Its too early to tell how reliable it will be. However I have zero doubts based on Stihls reputation.

Amazing power for a 50cc saw. Just a well balanced and designed saw. I can see were this saw will be worth just as much as I ... read more paid for it in 15 years time. I have never had a prob. with any of them. If I did I would take it to my local Stihl dealer here in COLUMBUS NE. Reardon Lawn & Garden Equipment. They have great Service. Not that I NEED it because they converted all my power tools to STIHL !!!
