Like the HSE 60, this trimmer is lightweight, well-balanced and easy to maneuver, thanks to its large front handle and transparent front hand guard. HSE 70 is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Electric Hedge Trimmers I've had these trimmers for nearly 10 yrs and love them. They stay super sharp and will cut through evergreens with ease. I have a 10ft high arborvitae hedge and use them to trim and tightly shape them. My home has a very manicured look that the neighbors all love.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from You Don't Always get What You Paid For I bought the STIHL HSE 70 trimmer thinking I was going to splurge -make life easier by finally treating myself to a high quality overpriced tool in my later years and not have to breath fumes. I wish I'd never bought the thing. It was a disappointment within the first few minutes that I used it. The blade is too soft of metal, it bends easily and has no support. And it bends back far too easily as well. After 39 yrs of landscaping, I handle my tools respectfully, maint, lubricate, sharpen, season prep etc. I'm 6ft 1 inch & 200lbs and this thing is a back and elbow buster. If you only have small amount to trim, then great! But then why buy this trimmer? My biggest peeve over all is how poorly it cuts. No matter how slow or fast you go, it just chews the living daylights out of both the leaves and the stems and looks horrible. I can't stress that enough. The slashes and gashes soon turn brown and looks like you used a weed wacker in some places - unprofessional and unsightly. (And yes, once I realized I was stuck with it I did eventually make adjustments and fine tuning of the blades with no better results.) I had to back track with hand shears to remove the damaged areas or the pieces it would simply not flush cut properly. It's a lot of extra work I never had to do before these trimmers. A high number of the leaves had cut marks all the way down them and still never cut the leaf off. You spend as much time chasing the strays that these trimmers refuse to address as you do actually trimming the over all hedge itself. This is a poor use of time and money. I have cheapie trimmers that'll easily run circles around the HSE 70, at a 1/4 the cost. I was looking to try these out and possibly upgrade more equipment - but nope. The hedges I had the most trouble with were the laurels (Cherry and especially Bay laurels which have narrow leaves) and fire bushes. Leaves that are 1.5" to 2" long, just skip off the blade. So the larger blade gaps are not very effective. I didn't have this issue before. It just pushes the leaf over and nibbles down the side of it like a boat prop. Never cuts in straight line not matter how fast or slow I go. I've let 5 people try my HSE 70 trimmers now, and they all had unkind words for it. You know, most larger hedges 'have' med to large size leaves. That was supposed to be what this was designed for, large hedges. When it does cut, it's not a nice cut - even when it was brand new. I will say there are things to like about these trimmers, which is why I paid so much for them without trying them first. But none of it matters if they don't do what they're supposedly designed for.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I was extremely specific that I wanted a set of trimmers that would do a decent job on the fresh growth of Laurel hedges. Thought he sales persons did their job very well, and were pleasant to speak to for the most part. It's not the tool I was led to think it would be. They both personally owned the Stihl HSE 70 Trimmer, and one had laurels too. Being a business owner in the Maintenance / Landscaping field I understand the limitations and performance of a trimmer. So I wasn't expecting perfection. I wasn't happy with the cut, at any speed. There was a lot of chewing and shredded leaves exposed too. Which was odd for a new sharp trimmer. I found myself making more passes than usual. Followed by going over everything with manual trimmers to remove what the Stihl wouldn't. It's a bit too heavy for extended uses. Pose some issues when it comes to sharpening that others don't have. Also the blade is on the flimsy side. On other species of bushes and hedges, it did just okay. But not any better than trimmers a fraction the price which I was originally looking to replace with a Stihl brand trimmer. I do like the quick stop blade, it has good enough power and a good extension cord clamp. But these trimmers have been a huge and growing disappointment especially after paying so mush for something that doesn't perform as said. They'll likely end up on Craig's or be given away with some fair warning, since I can't use them on the hedge they were recommended to me for. I understand the no return policy once you use something. It just would've been nice to at least speak with someone about my concerns. My attempt to communicate was an unpleasant and negative experience. The automated ratings request has been the height or focus and concern that was offered.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight and gets the job done The electric hedge trimmer was light enough for me to cut a dozen overgrown bushes without tiring out my arms. It was given quite a workout on its first time out.
