    Well made and smooth
After attempting to sharpen our made-in-the-pacific-rim trimmer and finding that it was impossible, we decided to look into the purchase of a QUALITY product. All I can say is this is a home run! It is more quiet, smooth and easy to use than those you can get at the large chain stores. We have only had it for a few weeks, but can already tell that it was money well spent! Holly bushes can be trouble for bargain tools, but not this one, it cuts thru the stems and branches with ease. We like the ... read more blade-cutter safety that stops cutting INSTANTLY when you let go. This is a QUALITY yard tool that should serve for many years, not one or two like the low cost and quality competitors. Thank you STIHL for this quality product.

    Great product, But!!!
Works great on just about anything you want to trim. It would be nice if it had a trigger lock. I know they assume that you will cut off your finger or something. But if you have 200 feet of box wood to trim it would be nice to have a trigger lock. It is one of the only trimmers that actually does a clean job of cutting box wood. It cut my job time by 2/3's. It can be tiring trying to hold the trimmer in different positions due to the way you have to grip it to to maintain the power on mode. I'm ... read more now on my third unit.

    Great cutting results.
I replaced a warehouse store electric with this model as I was not getting the results I was looking for in a powered hedge trimmer. I was impressed with how easy it was to shape the bushes with the HSE 70. My hedges have never looked so good. My only gripe is with the front safety bar, why put it there? The gas models have the safety switch on the back handle. With this model you must squeeze the front bar, at all times, or the blade will stop instantly. This is a problem if you like to move ... read more you hand around on the front bar.

This thing will cut better than one would think.
I bought this the other weekend because our old battery powered hedge trimmer went on the fritz. So having decided to limit my purchasing of yard power tools pretty much only to Stihl, I went to our local dealer. I had already decided based on the current product selection which model I wanted. They had one in stock ready to go. I did not want another battery powered hedge trimmer, as this is a device used just a few times a year, and dead batteries are very costly to replace. I did not want a ... read more gas one either, as they may not want to start after sitting most of the time. The good old electric model is the right choice for us. I can reach everything I need to trim using heavy duty extension cords. I don't have to worry about dead batteries or fouled plugs. It is quiet (relatively), and boy, will this thing cut good size stalks, too!

    Excellent trimmers
Purchased this trimmer after weighing the pros and cons of the HS-45 gas unit. Having a couple of herniated disks in my lower back, trimmer weight is a huge concern when leaning out over the top of a bush. But, I also needed a trimmer with enough capacity to cut ewes, hemlock, and the ever so woody, burning bush. The fact they both would perform the same, convinced me to go with the lighter (by 3.5#) electric version. You wouldn't think 3.5# would make much difference but, when extending out ... read more at the end of my reach, it's huge! While using this electric trimmer on 150' of 14 ga extension cord, it cut through everything I challenged it with. No problems what-so-ever. Cut 20 shrubs in less than an hour, not including clean up.

    Perfect
I have a Stihl gas powered trimmer, I'm 5'7', weigh 145lbs, and am 68 years old. As convenient as the gas type is the weight was getting to be too much so I bought this electric one. The weight difference is significant and the cut is better - probably because the blades are new :). The quality of the trimmer is typical stihl quality and if you are tired of lower back pain from a heavier trimmer this electric one may help.
