HSA 56 getting the job done
bought this trimmer yesterday and was unsure about it but wow.. i'm a lawn gear junky and usually buy commercial grade stuff for home use. I have a few electric trimmers and a gas one but was tired of both. this trimmer works great and the battery life from the ak10 is amazing, i thought that i would need to upgrade to the ak20 but i trimmed for 1hr and still had much charge left. this is an expensive tool but i hope the durability will overshadow the cost. I'm very interested in the chain saw too.

    A good trimmer
The battery charges quickly and lasts a reasonable length of time. The trimmer is light and handles well. It had no problems cutting through some hedges that I've had to use a hand pruners on before. Throughout one round of trimming all the hedges and shrubs on my property, it's hard to come up with any negatives.

    Great trimmer
This is the second battery powered Stihl product I have bought and I am very happy. Normally I am all about the gas powered products, but because of convenice I thought I would try the battery powered line. The battery life is great. I trimmer all of my bushes in my yard with the AK10 battery and it still showed fully charged when I was finished.

    Maiden Voyage
Just put to use my new HLA 65 hedge trimmer. Obviously too early to really evaluate dependability. However, I trimmed 10, 8 ft tall pittosporum hedge, which took me about an hour to trim all sides and tops. Filled a large 75 gallon can. The super sharp blades cut fairly thick branches 3/4" to 1" without any problem. I was able to control the trimmer to make perfectly even cuts. The trimmer is well balanced and seems light. I'm going to move the middle handle around to get it into a preferred ... read more position. A torx wrench is included with the machine to loosen the handle. The articulated head was easy to move with a pull down on the unlocking handle and grabbing the black plastic handle on the cutting head to change the head angle. I bought the AL 100 battery and the hours worth of trimming used 1/4 of the battery charge, for me, homeowner, that should be plenty.

    Priceless Tool
I am extremely impressed and happy with the HLA 65. It does an amazing job cutting blackberry bushes down, ivy, light brush, etc. Super quiet and light. Great quality. I cut light brush for 30 minutes, and the battery was about half. Sold on Lithium Ion. Worth the price. Make sure to get the Stihl Hedge Trimmer blade lubricant/cleaner aerosol can, too.

    Nice Upgrade
I had an electrical trimmer and moved to this battery powered trimmer with an extension. Wow, what an upgrade. No more cut extension cords (yes, twice) and fewer trips up the ladder. I was able to perform all low/close/high operations with one trimmer. Yes, it's heavier, but the work was done much quicker, and I dare say was more quite than my old electrical. It is plenty powerful and sharp too. With effort, I could cut through one-inch branches. The battery load isn't all that much. I have ... read more several Stihl battery products and two sized batteries. The power draw was closer to the edge trimmer than the guzzling chain saw and blower.

Good power, battery fully charged in less than 10 minutes
Good power, cut through a tough hedge with 3/4 in branches in some spots and did not bog down. The blade is extremely sharp, probably sharper than all the knives in my drawer. It was so sharp it scared my wife and she said she wasn't going to use it. After she saw me cut through the hedge she couldn't wait and asked me to leave one for her.

This product is highly engineered and has the Stihl quality I expected.
I needed a hedge trimmer that was light, powerful, and of exceptional quality. Since I own several STIHL products and have owned STIHL products for many years I am very confident that the durability and quality are in every one of their products that carry the name. I wanted a battery operated trimmer but did not want the increased weight in the trimmer. I purchased the battery belt and it works just wonderful. The standard battery will trim a large amount of shrubbery without recharging.

    Stihl products are great
Just purchased this trimmer a few weeks ago. It does the job great, but the two best things about it are the convenience of a long lasting battery and the weight differential compared to my string trimmer hedge trimmer attachment. I can now reserve that beast for the azeleas that have gotten out of control. The inertia of getting the gas can and heavy trimmer or stretching out all the xtension chords are gone. Don’t see any cut extension chords in my future.

    Well Engineered
I like all of its features. Cutting a 9 to 12 ft high hedge 40 ft long was simplified. Battery life 4 hours on AP300, completed the job without needing recharge. Some constructive criticism from a fellow mechanical engineer on future engineering updates: - Shears could be 2 inches longer, usually high hedges tend to be wider as well. Mine is 8 ft wide. It defies the purpose of buying a long cutter when you still need to use the ladder to cut the mohak in the middle of hedge after both ... read more sides are done. - Extension shaft rotates side to side when cutting head is locked at 90' angle. Maybe key or slot the shaft for better tool stability. - Shaft locking bolt thread is too agressive. Lower the thread pitch for more precise locking control. As it is leads to: too loose or overtighting. - Bottom surface of tool at battery enclosure could be rubberized/ doubleshot molding to prevent cracking when resting on the ground. I had to rest bottom on the ground every cutter head adjustment.

More than enough power to get the job done
Went with the AP300 battery just to make sure I had plenty of power. Still shows a 3/4 charge with about 2 hours of use. Wondering if I should have gone with the smaller battery for the weight savings. This thing does have some weight to it so you get a good upper body workout when using it. By looking at it and using it, it becomes obvious that this is a well made and serious tool. So great to be able to do tree shrub trimming without getting on a ladder. Took me about 45 minutes to do what ... read more used to take me half of a day. I would recommend.

    Good reach for large hedges.
This trimmer can reach out a good distance. While I still have to use a ladder I can reach all the way across from my property. Low battery consumption, seems to last a good while.

Made my Hedge trimming faster and much easier!
Very handy and convenient. Lightweight and very maneuverable. Great for hedges with smaller limbs. Battery run time and cutting power ok - but both could be a little better. Ran out of power about 15 minutes prior to being finished with front hedges.

    A Good Piece of Equipment
This is just what the doctor ordered for our yard work. It made quick work of trimming the bushes and shrubs and is easy to start and use. Those are the two qualities that make all the difference in the world for me.

Great Quality Product for Occasional Use
Purchased the HSA 45 Battery Hedge Trimmer on 7/1/2018. Charged up the onboard battery, then trimmed a 10-foot x 6-foot bush. Product worked well and the battery was at 1/2 charge level after 30 minutes. Stihl currently sells three levels of battery Hedge Trimmers: -- HSA 45 (built-in battery, OCCASIONAL use) -- HSA 56 (snap-in AK 10 Battery + AL101 charger, FREQUENT use) -- HSA 66 (snap-in AP 300 Battery + AL300 charger, EXTENSIVE use) If I wanted more power or planned more frequent ... read more use, I would purchase one of the more expensive products. However, the HSA 45 works great for my needs.

Good for some uses and for limited lengths of time.
This tool is handy for trimming small diameter grasses, perennials and woody shrubs. The key phrase here being “small diameter.” When I encounter stems over 1/4 “ or that are more woody than herbaceous, the machine stops. It’s primary drawback to me as an average sized female professional gardener is that the handle is too large and causes hand fatigue after about 10 minutes. I wish Stihl would make tools for women, especially since we do much of the gardening!

First In Illinois to get one!!
I saw this little guy over in the UK and Germany back in early 2017. It was a must-have! Wasn't heard of or available in the USA. So I contacted my dealer and had one shipped over. Now it seems everyone has one which is a good sign. Love this handy tool. Use it almost every day. So light and does the job! The plastic cover that it comes with was replaced very quickly with an actual Stihl orange trimmer cover. Battery charges super fast and internal is metal gears, not that plastic stuff competitors use.

    Garden Shears Kit
Bought this as a gift for my wife since she won't come in the house til after dark during Summer lol. She was thrilled to death with it. She has the prettiest garden on our lane. The equipment is very easy for her to use and trust me she puts it to the test. I've seen her trim stuff around our property that I didn't think the shears could handle.
