This product is a beast !
This is the first time I have ever had a hedge trimmer. I used to use the hand trimmers but my arms can't do it any more. I tried 2 other brands to see if I could use them. Even the electric ones were too heavy or they had no power to cut my bushes . When I tried the Stihl HSA 56, I was very surprised. Even with the battery in, it was very manageable for me. Once I figured out how to sweep across the bush it was like cutting butter. I am a 68 year old woman who enjoys my yard work, and this ... read more trimmer even cut branches on my holly trees. I would recommend this to any one who wants to make there job easier. Thankful !, Kathy

HSA 56 portable hedge trim without dragging electric cords.
Best feature is the run time. We can usually complete trimming all bushes on our 1 acre yard before recharging. Recharge is fast also. It is also powerful and easily cuts 1/4” or bigger bush branches, and trims large garden grass specimens without choking. For me it is light enough to use and make our bushes look great whether square or round trim design. Maintenance consists of cleaning and lubricating the cutter bar before each use. Stihl quality for sure. I also own a Stihl chain saw and ... read more small plant trimmers.

    excellent hedge trimmer
Best trimmer Ive ever used just remarkable what this battery operated trimmer will cut and uses very little of the battery charge in the process. Its light and easy to handle and maneuver. Along with several other bushes that it trimmed up nicely I have several over grown red burning bushes and it took care of those easily. If I had any complaint it would be all the safety features that makes this trimmer a little awkward to use at times. A little electrical tape took care of my problem for all ... read more but one of what I deem to be the only safety switch that is needed in order to pull the trigger. All in all a very fine trimmer. I recommend the HSA56 highly..

Great Quality Product for Occasional Use
Purchased the HSA 45 Battery Hedge Trimmer on 7/1/2018. Charged up the onboard battery, then trimmed a 10-foot x 6-foot bush. Product worked well and the battery was at 1/2 charge level after 30 minutes. Stihl currently sells three levels of battery Hedge Trimmers: -- HSA 45 (built-in battery, OCCASIONAL use) -- HSA 56 (snap-in AK 10 Battery + AL101 charger, FREQUENT use) -- HSA 66 (snap-in AP 300 Battery + AL300 charger, EXTENSIVE use) If I wanted more power or planned more frequent ... read more use, I would purchase one of the more expensive products. However, the HSA 45 works great for my needs.

    Good, not great
The model higher, the HSA 56, is probably the appropriate model for almost every user, but if you have some small bushes and don't plan to trim for any more than 20 minutes, this product is perfect. I like the integrated battery a lot. Con: I don't love the 3-point activation. You have to engage the wrap handle trigger, the back handle trigger and the "safety" release on the unit to start trimming. The 56 is just 2.

    Very Happy with purchase
I have been buying Stihl products for 25 years and have never been disappointed. My recent purchase of a new set of hedge trimmers did not disappoint. I know when I purchase a product from Stihl I am getting a high quality product. I will be purchasing a pressure washer before the end of the week. Really cannot say enough about my experience with Stihl.

Just what I was looking for
Great trimmer, it is light and delivers a great deal of power. Works on and on, has a very long run time. I do a lot of trimming on every thing from a weeping Mulberry tree to Pyracantha, and I have yet to run out of charge. On this small farm we have 8 Stihl tools and the dependability just can’t be beat.

    HSA 66
Great trimmer! I bought it to use around a pool, so I would not have an extension cord around the water. I purchased the AP300 battery, and AL300 charger as well. We used it for around 3 hours and still had 75% of the battery life remaining.

This hedge trimmer preformed a lot better than I thought it would.
I bought this trimmer to trim balsams and bushes around the yard. My wife used it for cutting down weeds in her butterfly garden. She wanted to know why I didn't get one sooner. Used it only 4 time so far however, being a Stihl product I expect it to perform well for a long time. It is slick.

    Maiden Voyage
Just put to use my new HLA 65 hedge trimmer. Obviously too early to really evaluate dependability. However, I trimmed 10, 8 ft tall pittosporum hedge, which took me about an hour to trim all sides and tops. Filled a large 75 gallon can. The super sharp blades cut fairly thick branches 3/4" to 1" without any problem. I was able to control the trimmer to make perfectly even cuts. The trimmer is well balanced and seems light. I'm going to move the middle handle around to get it into a preferred ... read more position. A torx wrench is included with the machine to loosen the handle. The articulated head was easy to move with a pull down on the unlocking handle and grabbing the black plastic handle on the cutting head to change the head angle. I bought the AL 100 battery and the hours worth of trimming used 1/4 of the battery charge, for me, homeowner, that should be plenty.

HLA 65 One Year of Using the Product
This maybe the best lawn care product I have ever bought. Hedging is a very labor intensive job in my yard. I have tried manual, electric and gas powered. This is the first Stihl Hedger I've bought. The weight is incredibly light. The weight distribution is perfect. The extension length makes jobs at higher or lower heights so simple. The 4 hr battery is perfect too. I'm totally serious when I add, that I was concerned I've have to add lawn service to my home. Not now, because of the HLA ... read more 65. This product isn't cheap, but it is truly first class and so easy to use. Makes an awful job 'almost' fun. It definitely makes this job rewarding.

    Well built, balanced, good power
I have 300 feet of laurel hedge along with other tall shrubs that require trimming 1 - 2 times per year. The battery powered trimmer avoids the hassle of gas powered tools that don't tolerate inactivity for 3-4 months. The 3 hours +/- run time with the AP 300 lithium battery is more than enough time for my sessions with the trimmer (that's actually 4+ hours of working time since the trimmer is not constantly running when I step up and down off the ladder and remove clippings from the work area). ... read more The trimmer cuts well. I have used it for 5 weekends now. Wish I had this tool years ago.

    Ease of use
My garden shears were a mother’s day gift, from my children, and I can’t tell you how easy they are to use and switch from shears to trimmer! I cannot use a weed eater, but don’t always trust others around my flowers. This has made it so easy for me to keep things trimmed up around my plants!

    Great for Deadheading
Saw this little guy in the local dealer and had to have it. It’s great for deadheading garden flowers and lilac bushes, and for trimming hedges. It would be an excellent topiary trimming tool. It has lots of power and is a great time saver. We did a trimming job in about 20 minutes that with manual shears would have taken a couple of hours. It wouldn't replace a good set of pruning shears but for for the jobs I described it was excellent. Suggest that Stihl come up with a plastic cap for the ... read more head attachment plate for storing the tool so it can be stored cleanly.

    My favorite garden tool
These shears are the best thing to happen to my gardening and landscaping life! They cut through field grass, vines, weeds, and shrub stems easily. I probably use them when I should be using a big weed whacker instead. But they are mini-workhorses, and the battery lasts forever. I did order an extra battery so they hardly ever have down time (poor shears!) Oh, and another plus is that arthritis in the hands won't slow you down with these Stihl shears. Thank you, Stihl, for making these!

    Another well thought out product
I've owned this tool for just a few weeks & so far I'm very impressed. I already have the battery powered saw, two ap180 batteries & the al100 charger. Being more than happy with the saw (although it has its limitations), I took the plunge & purchased the telescopic trimmer. The run time is a lot longer than the saw, easily an hour. Using this tool combined with a little tidying up in between, shifting stepladders etc. This tool + two batteries & the slow charger is easily on a par with my other ... read more cutters. It has a one year guarantee (two for the home user), & the quality you expect from stihl. Only downer is not being able to use it in heavy rain. Les noise, no petrol fumes & spillages & the customer pays to charge the battery. It just makes sense. Very pleased!

    Suprisingly great
I had the chance to use this unit along with the pole pruner and two of the 300 batteries. The hedge trimmer had great power and the telescoping pole was extremely useful. I did hedges all day on just one and half batteries which is inconceivable. When doing hedges I tend to take small breaks throughout the day, so it's great having that quick start/stop capability and even better to toss the ear protection on hot days. I have been through multiple 100 series stihl hedge trimmers and I still ... read more love them, but I will say I accomplished more with this unit. I'm a hard critic so here are my two dislikes: 1- the head should have more inbetween articulate settings as I needed them multiple times and 2 - the head is heavy compared to the battery side, which is extremely fatiguing to your forearm/bicep closest to the trimmer head. Overall great piece of equipment to have if you do a lot of big hedges.

More than enough power to get the job done
Went with the AP300 battery just to make sure I had plenty of power. Still shows a 3/4 charge with about 2 hours of use. Wondering if I should have gone with the smaller battery for the weight savings. This thing does have some weight to it so you get a good upper body workout when using it. By looking at it and using it, it becomes obvious that this is a well made and serious tool. So great to be able to do tree shrub trimming without getting on a ladder. Took me about 45 minutes to do what ... read more used to take me half of a day. I would recommend.
