Rated 2 out of 5 by from Handle broke in less than a week of use. I cut easily twenty cords plus cords a year to both sell for a little extra money, and burn the rest my self. I own Stihl several splitting axes. three with busted handles. Though they lasted fairly well, this one did not. At that price point, I can buy 2 full-size splitting axes with synthetic handles that shrug off hardwoods like it's sassafras. Why there isn't a metal sleeve for this product is beyond me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Multi Tool or Swiss Army Hatchet?? So I’ve never owned a hatchet before, and always used a full size axe (double bit).. I got this one for driving wedged really and wow! I love it! It’s great for hammering wedges while cutting and the sharp end is great for sticking it into the tree so you can grab it when needed quick. It’s well made and the head is solidly attached. I also discovered that it works very well for camping as well, and can do most things a full size axe will without the weight and bulk! It’s fantastic at sizing up some tinder for that camp fire as well!! It fits well into the hand and seems to hold an edge well. I love it and use it every trim into the woods!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like It A Lot! I used this at my nephew's last weekend to split kindling and liked it way better than the trusty hatchet I've had and used since 1977. Great weight and balance, the edge was sharp (and looks like it will hold awhile), and the little fillip at the end of the handle facilitated a very controlled swing. I felt like a monster powering through the wood.Much as I hate to retire my old hatchet, I'm gonna get me one of these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Death on wedges! You better have this laying by the butt of the tree you are cutting. You'll need it to drive in those wedges...which it does superbly. The butt is not rounded like a lot of other low-quality competitors, so it doesn't go glancing off when you give it a roundhouse swing! That way you don't end up wearing a tree. The handle enables a firm grip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good head weight I purchased this hatchet to split kindling and was reluctant to use it as it didn't fit well in my hand when it was toward the base for small cuts and I thought that it was too heavy for kindling. My wood stove uses 10" max lengths of wood and I cut a bunch of Cherry and Peach wood. I've been using this hatchet to split this hardwood and was surprised that it worked so well. I have yet had to use my splitting maul. It has enough head weight and carries enough momentum to chop some 6" diameter logs. It could have been a little sharper given the cost and I'm not sure why Stihl has to load the head and handle with stickers that are difficult to remove. Overall I am very pleased with the way the hatchet works.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solidly made I've had this for about 8 years. I use it occasionally for splitting kindling, which it does fairly well. My main use is for driving plastic felling wedges when felling trees. The head has enough weight for this purpose, without being so heavy that it's annoying to carry on my tool belt. The handle is long enough to get a good swing, but short enough so that it's not in the way when carrying. It's also short enough to fit in my box of chainsawing/tree felling tools. The handle is beginning to crack (from my own miss-hits, not a problem with the tool itself). I'm hoping I can find a replacement that fits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for making kindling I purchased a PA20 splitting hatchet to keep a pile of dry kindling on hand. After splitting logs with a hydroalic splitter I find that the PA20 splitting hatchet is a very convenient tool for splitting a few pieces of fire wood further to keep a bucket of kindling on hand during the winter season. Having this tool keeps me prepared to starti a fire in our boiler fast and easy in the event that the fire burns out before I get home from a long day at work. Thanks to Stihl for the great quality, and thanks to Milts Sales and Service for the large selection of supplies, and great customer service they provide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Right tool, right job I've tried using several tools for smaller kindling break down but my maul is just too unwieldy and my axe works just doesn't have the right head with for proper wood splitting. I had handled it at the hardware store but thought the price too high. After spending a month or so breaking down kindling, I thought it was about time to make the purchase. Well worth the coin! Picked one up this afternoon and spent time breaking down a large pile of kindling. Night and day! My one complaint is not a knock against the product itself but the plethora of stickers applied. Took me longer to remove them all then it did to chop wood!
