Professional-grade axe for felling, light splitting and limbing.

Product Description

For heavy-duty forestry work, you need an axe that’s built to last. The STIHL Pro Universal Forestry Axe features unique 5-piece head attachment system that’s up to 2.5 times stronger than a traditional axe head connection. Its finely crafted hickory handle will help you get into the swing of things, while its long steel sleeve dramatically increases handle durability. The head is forged from premium C60 steel for higher durability, then shaped to feature an extra-large striking face for improved splitting performance. It’s the wood axe to have on hand when felling trees, limbing them, doing some light splitting work, or driving plastic felling wedges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Start for a Great Price I picked up the Pro Forestey Axe to basically do it all. (Cut small trees/limbs while camping, split wood, and drive wedges). The axe is good at all those tasks and has a well thought out flat back that is perfect for driving wedges while cutting with the saw. The steel handle shield is tough and well placed so it does not get in the way and is not too heavy. And as a general axe the head grind is not horrible. HOWEVER there are issues! The “leather” scabord that comes with it is junk, and the blade is completely dull from the factory. No effort to sharpen it has been made. So.. first thing to do is to put an acceptable edge on it! Mine wouldn’t cut paper when I bought it, but with loads of elbow grease the edge will polish up nicely!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST CHOICE for Limbing Densely-Limbed Brush & Trees ! The handle usually takes a real beating when performing in the above conditions. The steel sleeve really protects well from contact with other nearby limbs. This axe has a longer handle than the Pro Splitting Hatchet which makes knocking in wedges on big timber a whole lot easier. This is a super double-duty tool!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well designed This tool was very expensive, but compared to miserable alternatives in the hardware store or the box merchants, my boys will be fighting over this one when I am gone. Someone was griping about the paint on the handle. Do I like it? No. But i can find it in the brush when I lay it down. Yes, it will need some braking in. I love the collar. I am getting older and miss more often. But it saves the handle. It reminds me to pay attention. I am going to buy the smaller axe/hatchett for kindling. This is a fine tool for splitting freshly cut wood up to 12 inches in diameter. My only request is don't screw it up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great axe but needs some TLC. This axe is a diamond in the rough. It is very well made. I don't think the head will ever come off thanks to Stihls 5 point attachment design. The hickory handle is very sturdy and very well protected from over strike with the metal collar covering the exposed shoulder. The steel "C60" seems very hard so it should hold an edge....once you put one on it. My axe was very dull, dare I say rounded. It's heavy enough that I probably could have chopped with it with out sharpening the edge, but I had to take a file to it just to shape the edge. The factory "edge" if you could call it that did not extend to either blade edge. I didn't like the lacquer and paint on the handle, so I removed it and finished it with several applications of boiled linseed oil for a much nicer looking and more importantly comfortable handle. The sheath is not very good. The Stihl dealer I bought mine from let me pick the best sheath from the other aces he had in stock and it still fell apart in less than a week, from the wear and tear it received while I was working to get the axe ready for use. You can imagine how it would work outside my home. All in all though the axe is very nice and will serve you well, once you give it a lot of love. For another $30 I bought an axe from Sweden that came razor sharp, a handle with no lacquer or paint and was sharp enough to shave with. I think the axe should be priced a little less or need a little less love.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice axe! Another great Stihl product! Makes limbing trees a breeze without a ton of effort. Feels good in the hands and holds an edge for awhile. Only two complaints I have is that first the factory edge is way to dull, it took a lot of filing to make it correct for the application. Second the sheath that comes with it is a joke, it lasted a whole two days, you would think that a company that makes great products would have a great sheath for the edge. But other than that, great product!
