Model Features

  • Anti-Vibration System
STIHL has developed a system for minimizing the vibration levels of handheld outdoor power equipment. The STIHL anti-vibration system helps reduce operator fatigue and provides a more comfortable working experience.
  • STIHL ElastoStart™
The ElastoStart™ starter handle is a feature of STIHL. It is a starting grip with a built-in shock absorber that helps reduce the effort when pulling on the starter cord. The ElastoStart™ starter grip noticeably reduces the sudden peak forces (compression) normally felt during cranking. The forces which occur at the grip after the first compression stroke are smoothed out.
  • Ergonomic Grip
The ergonomic top-handle bar design provides an optimal comfortable grip in any working position.
  • IntelliCarb™ Compensating Carburetor
The IntelliCarb™ Compensating Carburetor is designed to automatically adjust the air/fuel ratio when the air filter becomes restricted or partially clogged and maintains the engine’s correct RPM. IntelliCarb™ uses air from the clean side of the air filter to control the diaphragm and flow of fuel. As the air filter becomes dirty and less air is available for the carburetor, the IntelliCarb™ system adjusts the fuel flow to compensate for the decrease in air flow. This is in contrast to typical carburetors that utilize this air from the “dirty” side of the air box.
  • Decompression Valve
The decompression valve reduces the compression in the combustion chamber during cranking and helps reduce the effort needed to pull the starter rope.
  • Bayonet-Style Fuel Cap
Includes retainer for easy use, even with gloves on.
  • Water Connection
Water connection with shut-off valve and quick connector.

GS 461 ROCK BOSS® is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I regret not buying one sooner. Takes a while to get used to (it's not like cutting wood) but rewarding results. I was advised to let the chain do the work and this proved useful advice. Less heavy than the Stihl rotary cutter, so I can operate it for longer with greater precision and less fatigue. Vibration to the operator means planning work carefully with appropriate pauses. The ability to cut into areas not accessible to the rotary concrete cutters is a big advantage with this saw. I put off the purchase due to the big financial outlay, but I regret that now that I have it, as I am able to find so many more uses for it. A good investment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from this product has bad chains brand new rock boss six foot of cutting rock chain broke and a diamond came off of chain I have different cutters like this but needed a new one thought I would give them a try wont do that again because I was told in the store I did not know what I was doing they wont warranty chain said its my fault which make it funny because I run one at least every week of the year for the past twenty years when they started it up for me at the store they did not put water on the chain said it didn't need it and that is a possible failure of the chain according to them and yes I told them it needed water to lube the chain

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unless you absolutely need this type of cut. Forget it. Rep talks to you like you’re a idiot and abusive. Was a tooth missing. Rep says it got broke off. The metal where block is bonded to is like new metal. No signs of anything being bonded to it You can clearly read the t3 stamped on link. Never noticed it till I tried to use the nose to plung cut. Chattered and jumped. Trying to use chain after that seemed to wear rapidly and take the chain to point of junk. Cut 14 inch slabs approximately 12ft total and chain was nice after. Only after using nose things went to crap. P.S. very conservative on my equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A concrete saw in the original gas axe format I love everything about it except for the wide kerf... Slows it down a bit other than that it's a Stihl..I love German tools

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Chain sucks Cut 2 holes, 8”x12” and 12”x16” in a 6” slab of concrete. The chain was done. So much for that 40’ of 6” reinforced concrete. Dealer felt bad gave me another chain. Says his rep says there is a better chain. So I buy a million dollar tool with a 10 cent chain? They sure didn’t do that on my chain saws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As advertised by Stihl, with diamond cutters it cuts smoothly. I am a homeowner doing extensive renovations. I wanted to be able to make clean cuts on some concrete block walls to open up for doors and windows. The diamond cuts cut like glass, I cut through the mid point of some blocks which produced a beautiful terrazzo style finish like polished cement by cutting the aggregate. Don't expect it to cut like a chainsaw through firewood. It cuts at it's own pace. I had a couple pieces of 5/8" rebar but I decided to cut up to it and finish with a cheap cutoff disk. I admit I am babying that chain, but it is expensive. The dealer convinced me to buy the cheaper 12" bar version. You save a bit of dough and the replacement chain will be a couple hundred bucks cheaper. I'm sure the 16" chain would last longer but I could conceive of no scenario when I would need to cut more than about 10" or so. The Stihl engine and quality are great and dealer support for me has been exceptional with a gas tank, oil and stabilizer thrown in after the deal. It is a wet saw so if you use it inside, be sure to open up the place with exhaust fans and put up some plastic to control the water, it can shoot about 12 ft if you let it. Of course, if you can cut from outside that's much preferred. The plunge cut capability is a winner, start slow and progress slow - accuracy and safety over speed will win the race. This is a big investment, but I am happy I made it. Can do lots of things like plunge cut a floor to run dust collection pipe underground, anchor a sea wall, etc. Limited by your imagination.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The GS Rock Boss is a great tool to have on hand. The GS Rock Boss concrete chain saw is a great product for intricate work. I use it constantly on construction sites where there are tight tolerences and the cuts have to be allmost exact. The light weight and versatility of the Rock Boss definitely make my job easyer.
