OILOMATIC® STIHL RAPID™ Micro™ 3 is the reduced kickback tendency version of STIHL RAPID™ Micro™.

Product Description

STIHL RAPID™ Micro™ 3 is the low-kickback version of STIHL RAPID™ Micro™ saw chain. RM3 retains all the performance of STIHL RM chain, with the added benefit of low kickback to reduce the risk of kickback injury. It is a taller-profile chain with more mass for chainsaws with larger displacement engines. Featuring a semi-chisel type of cutter, it typically doesn’t get dull as fast as a full-chisel chain during normal use, making it easier to maintain.

Applications: The RM3 chain is ideal for felling, bucking and limbing. It is a general-purpose chain for the high demands of full-time professionals in agriculture, construction and the forestry industry. It is also suitable for nonprofessional users working under similar conditions.

STIHL recommends using low-kickback, green-labeled chain and green-labeled reduced-kickback bars on all powerheads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plunge cutting dirty wood and still sharp Ok, so I tried plungeing into a tree for the first time a while ago now and was a bit nervous about kickback. So to ease my mind somewhat I put a 33RM-72 on the 20” bar and went for it. I’m sure it probably made little difference in the result but it worked with the “green safety chain” and “green bar” without kicking back at me. I was being pretty careful too! Someday I may give it a go with the RS chain but I’m on no rush since this seemed to work just fine. Nevertheless,, the semi chisel chain cut plenty fast enough for what I was doing with it and even in some dirty wood it seems to hold its edge quite well. I still haven’t dressed out the teeth and it cuts very well still. I can’t speak for the pro’s who use it daily, but for a homeowner, this seems like to way to go. Keeps an edge and is tollerant of dirty conditions, plus the added security of kickback bump stops. Pretty good bet for the weekend user!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast Cutting, reliable and safe chain I agree with other writers, this chain has been given a few bad reviews, but it's a fast cutting, great safety chain. I put about 20 hours in 2 days cutting in maple, oaks, buckthorn and other invasive species (for a scouts Eagle Project) and it cut fast and stayed sharp. I also agree with another reviewer that you might want to to make sure all bumper links/rakes are in spec - I touched it up with the Stihl All-in-one file. The RM3 cuts fast and given the added safety is definitely the right choice for anyone that isn't cutting 50 hours a week. Keep it out of dirt - please. It didn't lose it's sharpness until a friend that was impressed with my saw wanted to try it. I realized after I looked at his cuts that he'd been grinding it into the dirt a half dozen times while cutting up a large maple (friends!) and that's when I needed to switch chains. I used my RS to finish up the tops of a few large stumps. The RS is admittedly faster, but it's also a full chisel, without the bumper/rake profile that makes the RM3 chain safer. But, the RS is not the chain I'd let other, less experienced (friends) use. Keep the RM3 sharp and you'll appreciate the quality/speed. PS - for safety, don't ever cut with a dull chain, especially when a chain touch-up only takes 10 minutes, or changing a chain takes 2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from i bought two when i bought my 029 16" 15 years ago, they sharpen well and stay sharp. I cut about 20 trees so far rotating these two chains. I have spent the last week researching chains and bars because I am going to add a longer bar. Looking at different brands. today I decided I can not find something better to purchase so I will order the bar/chain from stihl.Mine have been durable, easy to sharpen and they have been safe. I want to buy a much bigger saw...like the largest stihl. Will need to start picking up some lotto tickets to cover the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A excellant Saw Chain I don't understand why this Saw Chain is getting a bad rep. It's super sharp and holds up well in hard woods. This chain loop came on My new MS250 and It cut well but not like I thought it should. On 1st touch up filling I checked the Bumper Links and Rakers with a depth guage. They were a little out of spec. That was a easy fix. The Chain Loop now cuts faster. What most people don't understand is that this Semi Chisel Chain with Bumper Links doesn't cut as fast as Full Chisel chains. The Stihl Saw Chains are the best made. Compare a Brand O equivalent loop to the RM3 and you will have a diffrent opion. The RM3 is easy to sharpen and stay sharp longer if kept out of Stumps with Barb Wire and Nails. Kept out of the dirt. And Logs covers with Sandy mud and gravel. They cut well in dirty wood but the operator has to use some common sense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plunge Cutting Plus Having multiple friends of mine in my life take out pieces of their faces from kickback made me want to go with the low-kickback chain. Being that my saw came with this chain, I cannot compare it to other chains however this chain will cut as fast as my saw wants to cut. Plunge cuts (bore cuts), I have read frequently that you cant do it with a safety chain. BULL. Well let me tell you, I can plunge right through without a problem. Maybe this chain is a little slower but keep it sharp and you will never notice.

Got tired of please honey will you --- and got myself this lightweight easy start chainsaw. I love it and don't have to wait until he has time to do my jobs for me.Sometimes I have to go ask him if he is through with my chainsaw so I can use it.he loves it so much too.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good chain for beginner, but too slow cutting. This is the chain that comes standard on the majority of Stihl saws and was standard on my MS 250 and MS 290. It is a low kickback safety chain and is very good for a beginning wood cutter. The issue I have with it is that when the chain is very sharp it cuts fair, but after a few minutes it requires a lot of effort to push the saw into the wood to cut and it cuts very slow. This is after filing with both a filing jig and after having it filed at the Stihl dealer so inacurate filing is not the issue. The low kickback feature is nice, but the slow cut makes cutting firewood a long process.
