The first STIHL carbide-tipped .325" saw chain stays sharp up to four times longer than standard chains.

Product Description

The STIHL RAPID™ Duro 3 chain is a low-kickback version of the STIHL RAPID™ Duro. It stays sharp up to four times longer than standard chains. With standard-sized cutters, the RD3 is extremely durable and produces very good results in all types of wood. It is especially suited for cutting dirty wood, treated wood, roots and hardwoods, which would quickly dull conventional chains. This chain must be re-sharpened with a formed diamond grinding wheel.

Applications: The RD3 chain is especially suited for cutting dirty wood, treated wood, roots and hardwoods.

OILOMATIC® STIHL RAPID™ Duro 3 (RD3) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from OILOMATIC® STIHL RAPID™ Duro 3 (RD3) i had a old tree that had been floating around the river for years wash up across my drive, it was about 2 feet in diameter, old farmer said i would need alot of chains, cause those trees in the river have alot of silt in the pores of the wood, we made 1 cut with a new regular high speed saw chain, dulled it right away, 2nd new regular saw chain made it about a 3rd of the 2nd cut, put on the Carbide tipped new saw chain, 26RDS3 81, cut the rest of the tree up, just fine, about 20 feet long, including the root ball, we broke thru the bottom , hit the river road bed, gravel, sparks flying everywhere, thought that would be the end of that chain, nope, still cutting 3"curls, got home cleaned up saw, the teeth on the carbide chain, looked like brand new. i will be buying only carbide from now on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for railroad ties I haven't had a chance to use this chain long-term yet so I can't comment on its long term durability. However, I can state that it works great in dirty wood, roots, and with used railroad ties as well. I cut a few dozen used rail ties (very soaked with tar, and with sand/gravel embedded) with a 461 using this chain and it never slowed down. It cut nice big chips and didn't gum up with the tar in the ties. I was expecting to see some wear on the chain and possibly have to stop to touch up the chain with a diamond file (or even swap to a spare chain I had on hand just in case) but that wasn't necessary. This chain cut the 50th tie just as easily as the 1st. I've also used it in some old fallen trees with a lot of sand in the bark, as well as clearing out an old half-rotten stump that was similarly loaded with sand and other debris and I am very impressed so far. I haven't had to touch it up yet, and the spare chain is still in its box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect chain Have used this chain for many years. My only complaint is sharpening but it's not bad if the dealer has the proper tools . I am looking to purchase my own sharpening equipment. I loaned the chain to company I work for and I had used it for several hours since was sharpened and it lasted them a month to where they were sharpening every few minutes with their chain. I filed my drags for a little more aggressive cut. Would recommend highly for anyone. I have felled trees, cut firewood, cut dirty and abrasive things with steel rods and only time I lost teeth was when someone hit the metal rods.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE VERY BEST CARBIDE-TIPPED CHAIN MONEY CAN BUY PERIOD!!! I bought this CARBIDE TIPPED CHAIN with a few reservations was not sure if it would hold up like people said it would. Well it was one of the best decisions I've made. I bought 20 federal cord of wood delivered on a semi. That's 60 face cord of wood here in Michigan. I cut 4 face cord with a conventional chain. Replaced the chain 6 times because the wood is extremely dirty. Decided to get the carbide tipped and 30 face cord later am still on the same chain, haven't sharpened it yet. Cuts like I just put it on. Saving me time, money paying for sharpening of chains, wear and tear on my saw because I don't have to full throttle it through logs. Gas. I could go on and on. Thanks for a great product! Buy the way, if this chain failed today I would still be far ahead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Explanation To everyone, please understand this product. The carbide tipped are soldered on to the steel chain. The solder becomes brittle at low temperatures. Problems can be averted by simply warming the saw and chain up prior to use and keeping it at the proper operating temperature. As to the subject of hitting nails and hard objects, it goes without saying that only the products listed in the "rescue products" sections are rated for that kind of abuse. The tips on those are actually welded and not soldered. Just remember the old saying of "the weakest link".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product !!!!! I don't know why there where poor reviews for this chain? This chain is the only one to buy , if you use your saw to work with. We cut 8 inch treated pilings (devil poles) and it goes right thru them. Regular chain cuts about three poles and is done. Old dirty wooden bulkhead, nails never misses a beat . its worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Chain, Long Lasting I used my first carbide blade staring 3 years ago. After cutting about 10 cords of wood and falling many trees, it finally started to show wear. During this entire time I never sharpened the blade. Without hesitation I purchased another blade waiting for my first to be sharpened and the second one was just as good as the first. The wood I was cutting was a combination of hard and soft wood - dried (felled) oak, walnut, cotton wood, ash, etc. This blade chewed through big logs easily. For me, this is the only chain I will use going forward. I had none of the other issues some of the other reviews noted such as breakage. I try to keep the blade out of dirt and grime and so far the results are awesome.
