When you demand a lot from your chainsaw, having the right saw chain can make a big difference. STIHL saw chains are individually designed for all types of woodcutting and for most makes of chainsaw. Every saw chain manufactured by STIHL incorporates our exclusive, patented OILOMATIC® lubricating feature. And every component is engineered to work together to maximize the use of bar oil.

STIHL OILOMATIC® saw chains feature specially engineered grooves designed to channel oil to critical wear areas. This superior lubrication feature helps extend the chain’s life and reduce the tendency for stretching. Our saw chains are also pre-stretched before leaving the factory, eliminating excessive stretching during the break-in period.

All STIHL saw chains have the same quality engineering and innovative technology that have made our chainsaws famous. We even care about the details others might miss – like smoothing out the microscopic rough edges from the stamping process to reduce premature and improper wear. If it says STIHL, it’s made to last.

STIHL recommends using low-kickback, green-labeled chain and green-labeled reduced-kickback bars on all powerheads.

    Excellent
Many moons ago, I bought a MS034. It is a 3.45 cu in saw. The dealer sold me an RM chain. Dealer said that there really wasn't my difference between the RM and the RS. I always cursed the saw as it barely cut. I had and old mac610 that out cut the Stihl saw. Eventually, I wore out the chain and brought an RS chain replacement. What a world of difference. You have to respect the dangerous nature of what you are working with. I always wear my chaps, eye and ear protection, and love my Stihl saws, ... read more with the proper chains. I also always machine sharpen my chains.

    The best chain around!
I upgraded the chains on my MS250 and MS290 from the RMC3 to the Rapid Super and was amazed at the difference in the cutting. Previously the saws did not pull into the wood without being forced and with this chain the weight of the saw is plently. This chain definatly brings a Stihl saw to life. The only draw back is the loss of the anti kickback feature which can be useful especially for the beginner. I have been using chainsaws for almost 20 years and understand the dangers. With this chain ... read more you sometimes have to be careful because the saw goes through the wood so quick you will have to catch it before it hits the ground!

Fast Cutter - for the experienced
Great Chain, but only if you've got a lot of cutting time under your belt. I use this chain when I've got a lot of bucking to do. I use the other safety chain (RM3) for limbing, difficult position cutting, or my hands are getting tired (where there's greater risk). I just used this chain again this weekend for a pile of bucking and it's great. Super Fast cuts and it does a great job of throwing the chips. (I was getting "chips" over an inch long). I only use the Stihl 2in1 sharpener and never ... read more have a problem with this chain being super sharp and cutting straight. I use RS / RM3 & always keep a sharpened spare chain in my bag.

    The chain cuts good
I use it to cut dead oak trees it cuts the trunk by the ground faster then the other chains and cuts through the oak like a knife through butter. One chain usually dulls after cutting an oak into firewood but this stays sharp longer

    chain is awesome
The best chain I have ever used. it is very fast and lasts a long time between sharpening. Very good for the money but why do I have to tell you St IHL products sell themselves the best there is. Thanks St IHL for the great products.

Need a Double bevel flat file to sharpen this chai
The profile is not round like a standard chain, its square. Use a double bevel chainsaw file. Look up you tube, there a few men way wiser than me showing impressive cutting rates. Beware dirty wood, as a sharp saw dulls easy.

The BEST choice for Big Saws with Long Bars!
I've been using this chain for years with 041AVES, 066 Magnum, & MS 661 R C-M saws with 24", 28" & 32" bars. I predominately cut P-Pine, D-Fir, E-Spruce, Larch, & W-Cedar. This chain is the easiest to dress in the woods, especially with fewer bits to dress!

Excellent chain for 25 inch bar
I run this chain on a 362... I use it to mainly cut oak. It does a great job as long as you keep it filed during fuel stops. (As with ALL chains). I won't go back to another chain I got almost a whole season of firewood cutting out of it.

Fast Cutting on Long Guide Bars
Skip and square cutter chain from stihl is just flat out awesome. The RSF chain is perfect on long bars in hard wood. You really don't get any benefit on short bars. Full comp chain cuts much fast until you start using longer guide bars. I use this chain on the ms 362 with 25 inch guide all the time. Now if I was using a 20 inch guide bar I would stick with the RSC chain. When using a longer bar saw dust and dirt get trapped in the chain. When that happens the chain can not discharge it fast ... read more enough. Skip chain does a much better job in these situations. Also since there is about 33% less cutters it does allow the engine rpms to stay much higher. Which in turn does make it faster cutting with longer bars. Not to mention it takes less time to touch it up when your out in the woods or in the field working.

    Excellent Chip Removal
I prefer this chain over RS because of better chip removal on deep cuts. Also seems to plunge better.

    best chain i have used
I have been cutting wood for over 15 years and this is by far the best chain I have used. I have run this side by side with the RS3 and it would buck four cuts to the rm3's one. No pressure needed, you just let the saw do all of the work. best of all it saves the back during those big cuts that take low kick back chain forever to cut through. Now on that note this is not a chain you can take for granted it will kick back, and if you don't pay close attention it will bite. As to sharpness I have ... read more run 2 cords of red oak and I haven't even seen it break a sweat. It is very durable but I cut clean wood and haven't had it in the dirt.

    RSK on my MS661 R C-M saw - Wooded 3.7 acre lot
Awesome chain, not cheap - but you get what you pay for it seems. I’m running the RSK on a 25” ES Light bar hanging in an MS661 R C-M powerhead. The chain is a bit grabby so care and attention must be given to this one. HOWEVER it will perform!!! Soft wood is effortless and “Wow” fast!!

    Fast Cutting and Long Lasting
I can't say enough about this chain. The PS3 chain has been on my in the tree saw for 3 months now. I am saying one chain for 3 months with no touch up of any kind. One of my ground guys used the saw and put it in the dirt a bit. I was super surprised that it was still as sharp as it was. That was sometime in month 2. I have been cutting in ash, maple, red oak, and beech. Just to name a few. I know I should have at least ran a file over it before now but, I just wanted to see how much wood I ... read more could truly cut before it stopped throwing chips. So it lasted 3 months doing commercial tree work. It needs to be sharpened now. Boring smoothness is unreal. This chain sure has saved me a lot of money and time! Its probably the best small saw chain on the market today.

Only Option For Full Chisel (3/8 Lo Pro)
This is, like any other STIHL chain, a good one. It cuts fast being that it is a full chisel tooth. Yes it will still dull quicker than the RM chain but it will cut faster too. The part I totally don’t understand is why STIHL offers the PM chain in a pro “yellow link” chain in the 3/8 lo pro but not a “yellow link” PS. Chain??’ (Honestly the PM chain isn’t listed on line either). Anyway, it’s good for what it is, and I run it on my MS170 to clean up branches, take down the odd very small ... read more diameter tree, and some light bucking work. It works well for that mission. Anything bigger and the MS661 3/8 RS comes out. The chain will not disappoint and will cut quick, but dull quick if ya use it in dirty wood or get into the dirt with it.
