When you demand a lot from your chainsaw, having the right saw chain can make a big difference. STIHL saw chains are individually designed for all types of woodcutting and for most makes of chainsaw. Every saw chain manufactured by STIHL incorporates our exclusive, patented OILOMATIC® lubricating feature. And every component is engineered to work together to maximize the use of bar oil.

STIHL OILOMATIC® saw chains feature specially engineered grooves designed to channel oil to critical wear areas. This superior lubrication feature helps extend the chain’s life and reduce the tendency for stretching. Our saw chains are also pre-stretched before leaving the factory, eliminating excessive stretching during the break-in period.

All STIHL saw chains have the same quality engineering and innovative technology that have made our chainsaws famous. We even care about the details others might miss – like smoothing out the microscopic rough edges from the stamping process to reduce premature and improper wear. If it says STIHL, it’s made to last.

STIHL recommends using low-kickback, green-labeled chain and green-labeled reduced-kickback bars on all powerheads.

    Works great on the MS270
I've run this particular chain on several of my larger saws in the past, and recently I slapped this chain onto my MS270, and it works incredibly well. I don't even push into cuts with this chain - just put it on top of the wood, and squeeze the throttle - it chews right through everything I've tried it on, including red oak and silver maple of about 12-14" diameter, and I can sharpen it with a regular round file when in the field. VERY fast, aggressive cutting saw chain.

One of the best chains I own
The RS chain is a great chain for bore cutting and cutting down trees. Chain keeps a great edge as long as you keep it out of the dirt. I cut up 3 white ash trees still holding a great edge, just like how I got it out of the box. I'm running this chain on a ms261 and a ms271 I would not put it on a smaller saw. These chains are aggressive and I strongly recommend always wearing your proper PPE, this chain will kick back if you're not paying attention. I recommend for experienced users.

    Best chisel chain made
This is by far the fastest and best chain I've ever used. I have the MS 291 and this thing eats wood like a madman. The chain is not meant for beginners and you should have quite a bit of skill before attempting it. I use the Dremel tool with the stihl roto bits to sharpen the chain but you have to take your time and make sure your angles are perfect and use common sense and skill. The chain is hard to sharpen if you did not have sharpening skills take it to the shop. I have used stihl products ... read more for over 20 years and in my opinion there the best saws and chains I've ever used bar none. By 1 it will be the best move you ever made and you won't be sorry.

    terrific all purpose chain
I bought this chain to replace the green safety chain that came with my Stihl 291 saw. It is the 26RM74 for use with my 18" bar. When I first used my saw with the safety chain it cut very well-just a bit slow. At the time we were cutting fallen oak. For comparison, I switched to this yellow RM chain and the difference was immediately apparent. The RM chain was much more aggressive. I'm still using the original bar, which is a Rollamatic E bar (green). The chain is easy to sharpen and ... read more maintain. I am not a lumberjack by any means but I usually cut with a friend who typically cuts 10 to 12 cords a year. He tried my saw with both of the chains and he also thought the difference was significant. In not so many words, he basically told me to throw the green chain away. Of course I will not. Instead, I keep the green chain as a spare. Stihl's website warns users that the yellow chains have a higher potential for kickback but I have had no such issues. Again, I'm still using the green safety bar so perhaps that is one of the reasons I've had no issues with kickback. That's about it. The RM chain works very well and is easy to sharpen. Wilkie

    Good all-purpose chain
Great for frozen, dead and/or dirty oak. Has no problems on other types of wood though either, just excels when you're in hardwoods in my opinion. Takes a bigger bite than RM3(safety chain).

Probably my favorite chain for my 026 Pro
I swapped the .325 pitch chain on my 026 Pro to run 3/8 so that I was using the same chains as my larger saw. I love the 026 but it's right at the bottom of the power range to pull a 3/8, so the chain really makes a difference. I've used several different chains from Stihl & Oregon, and this one seems to work the best for me. As long as I'm not too impatient, it cuts well and sharpens easily. For reference, I'm NOT a tree professional. I typically drop & cut between 15-40 trees a year and file ... read more by hand with a standard file guide.

THE VERY BEST CARBIDE-TIPPED CHAIN MONEY CAN BUY PERIOD!!!
I bought this CARBIDE TIPPED CHAIN with a few reservations was not sure if it would hold up like people said it would. Well it was one of the best decisions I've made. I bought 20 federal cord of wood delivered on a semi. That's 60 face cord of wood here in Michigan. I cut 4 face cord with a conventional chain. Replaced the chain 6 times because the wood is extremely dirty. Decided to get the carbide tipped and 30 face cord later am still on the same chain, haven't sharpened it yet. Cuts like I ... read more just put it on. Saving me time, money paying for sharpening of chains, wear and tear on my saw because I don't have to full throttle it through logs. Gas. I could go on and on. Thanks for a great product! Buy the way, if this chain failed today I would still be far ahead.

    Great for railroad ties
I haven't had a chance to use this chain long-term yet so I can't comment on its long term durability. However, I can state that it works great in dirty wood, roots, and with used railroad ties as well. I cut a few dozen used rail ties (very soaked with tar, and with sand/gravel embedded) with a 461 using this chain and it never slowed down. It cut nice big chips and didn't gum up with the tar in the ties. I was expecting to see some wear on the chain and possibly have to stop to touch up the ... read more chain with a diamond file (or even swap to a spare chain I had on hand just in case) but that wasn't necessary. This chain cut the 50th tie just as easily as the 1st. I've also used it in some old fallen trees with a lot of sand in the bark, as well as clearing out an old half-rotten stump that was similarly loaded with sand and other debris and I am very impressed so far. I haven't had to touch it up yet, and the spare chain is still in its box.

Works well on my 361 with 25" bar
This chain cuts fast and clean on my 361 with a 25" bar. I fell pine and fir with it. I especially like that there are fewer teeth to sharpen.

    SUPERIOR QUALITY SAW CHAIN
I have been a professional timber cutter for 36 years. Also operate my own tree farm and do and have done all the logging there for 36+ years. STIIHL chain is superior to all other brands(I have tried them all). The skip tooth is excellent for discharging chips. I run this chain on 044's, 440's and 046's. I have ran it on 075's and 090's but no longer have need for these larger saws..... The steel used in this chain seems to be harder than the steel used by other manufacturers so, it holds an ... read more edge longer but also wears out your files and grinding wheels sooner. Do not use this chain if you are prone to sticking your bar in the dirt or hitting rocks...this is professional grade material and must be treated as such.

You Have to Try it to Believe it
I've been cutting with chainsaws since I was 5 years old. I'm now 65. I'm running this chain on an MS170 and it blew me away how easy this chain cuts. The technology just keeps getting better and better, Great job Stihl.

    Great little chain
Great chain. Running on my Kombi pole pruner without any issues. Stays sharp and is easily returned to like new with a few minutes of filing. Eats through tough limbs.

    Fast Cutting and Long Lasting
I can't say enough about this chain. The PS3 chain has been on my in the tree saw for 3 months now. I am saying one chain for 3 months with no touch up of any kind. One of my ground guys used the saw and put it in the dirt a bit. I was super surprised that it was still as sharp as it was. That was sometime in month 2. I have been cutting in ash, maple, red oak, and beech. Just to name a few. I know I should have at least ran a file over it before now but, I just wanted to see how much wood I ... read more could truly cut before it stopped throwing chips. So it lasted 3 months doing commercial tree work. It needs to be sharpened now. Boring smoothness is unreal. This chain sure has saved me a lot of money and time! Its probably the best small saw chain on the market today.

Only Option For Full Chisel (3/8 Lo Pro)
This is, like any other STIHL chain, a good one. It cuts fast being that it is a full chisel tooth. Yes it will still dull quicker than the RM chain but it will cut faster too. The part I totally don’t understand is why STIHL offers the PM chain in a pro “yellow link” chain in the 3/8 lo pro but not a “yellow link” PS. Chain??’ (Honestly the PM chain isn’t listed on line either). Anyway, it’s good for what it is, and I run it on my MS170 to clean up branches, take down the odd very small ... read more diameter tree, and some light bucking work. It works well for that mission. Anything bigger and the MS661 3/8 RS comes out. The chain will not disappoint and will cut quick, but dull quick if ya use it in dirty wood or get into the dirt with it.
