High-performance saws to help make your job easier

When it comes to logging, farming, land clearing, tree service and big firewood...
When it comes to logging, farming, land clearing, tree service and big firewood cutting jobs, professionals trust the unique features that make STIHL the #1 selling brand of gasoline-powered handheld outdoor power equipment in America*. And at STIHL, we have a particular fondness for our professional category chainsaws. It’s where we built our reputation in the first place. To help you identify model features, look for these corresponding symbols: C = Comfort feature, E = Easy2Start™, Q = an additional chain braking system, R = wrap handle, and M = STIHL M-Tronic™.

Andreas Stihl developed the first electric chainsaw in 1926 and our first gasoline-powered saw in 1929. And not unlike the early automobiles of the Roaring 20’s, our chainsaws’ essential components – engine, bar and chain – remain familiar, though very much advanced, elements of our original chainsaw. Today, STIHL continues to put a high value on engineering and performance. That is why we custom design and manufacture our own guide bars and saw chains for all our machines in-house. This ensures optimal chainsaw performance in the field.

Best chain saw I ever used or owned.
Love using this saw. I love cutting firewood again. I heat with wood so I cut 5-10 cord a year and this saw has had no problems cutting anything in the 13 months I've owned it and no problems of any kind. I have a 16" & 20" bar for it which makes it very versatile. I spent 2 months looking and comparing saws and settled on this saw based on features, and power to weight ratio and have not been disappointed. It usually starts on the 3rd pull when cold and 1st pull when warm. Hard for me to ... read more believe any of the negative comments I've read here, have not seen any of those issues. This latest MS 261 CM is amazing.
I have had an original MS 261 for six years. It is a great saw. I have been wanting an MTronic one ever since they came out a few years ago. When I held this latest version, I knew it was time. My Stihl dealership is very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Brought the saw home today and went through a half tank of gas in our woodlot before the MN winter drove back inside. This saw was not phased by the cold at all. It's lighter and has a faster trigger response than my last saw. Very ... read more pleased with this saw!

    Blown away by this saw
Bought this saw in Southern AZ to cut Mesquite trees. Didn't know what to expect with the M-Tronic technology. I was so impressed with this saw. Ran it for 10 hrs on one day and 5 hrs on another day. Started great every time. Ran like a champ. By far the best saw I have ever used. I also own a Stihl 460 and have used various other saws working for the Forest Service. I can't say enough good things about this saw. It is completely awesome.

    What a huge difference!
I had only used homeowner chainsaws until I purchased this very powerful pro saw. I'm preparing to move to Alaska and I anticipate needing to fell some huge trees killed by the bark beetle. I'll also want to use this saw for milling boards with an Alaskan chainsaw mill. My neighbors huge oak tree just fell and we took turns bucking it into nice piles of fire wood. The saw was a pleasure to use and I highly recommend stepping up to a pro saw. I love the MS 661!

I am completely satisfied with my MS 661C-M
I purchased the 661C-M to cut up a couple of mature Tulip Poplars. The saw never came close to bogging down with a 36" bar and a RS yellow chain. It is very easy to start whether cold or hot. I read all the reviews on the Stihl website before buying and noted that some owners complained about difficulty starting the 661 after it is hot. My guess is that they are using the cold start procedure on a hot saw. After the saw is warmed up, you don't need the choke or the decompression valve. Mine ... read more almost always starts on the first pull.

Hands Down best 90cc Saw on market
Ive ran this saw with bar lengths of 20-36 inches. Unless youre using 36” or larger on a regular basis this is the largest saw you will need. I keep a 25” ES bar on it mostly. The 395xp wont out cut this saw unless you run them both with a 28” plus but this saw is alot lighter and easier to start. Ive owned this saw for a year and have no complaints, keep good ethanol free or high octane gas in it with proper mixture it will last you a couple decades or longer.

    Powerful light chainsaw
Going from a 40 year old 031 Stihl to this new MS 462 C-M was like night and day. Power was just incredible and truly put a smile on my face from the time I made my first cut to the time I shut it down. Very controllable saw with a 25" bar and 33RS chain. This saw is great and I'm very happy to have researched it and purchased it from Middlefield Lawn and Garden. They had my saw ready to go in a short notice and the people are outstanding to work with. I've went through 10 tanks of gas so ... read more far and this saw is just a beast.

    Fast light balanced beast
Reluctant to buy a smaller saw I run a 661 magnum for everything starting to wear on me ! So I been reading and waiting and just purchased a 462 from local dealer with excellent staff and maintenance department Four Ways in New Castle Pennsylvania . Unbelievable speed and response in all medium and small wood and pulls 25 inch thru big oak fast and impressive will not pull through the big stuff like a 661 but I didn’t expect it to . But overall maybe my favorite saw I ever handled ! Would ... read more strongly recommend as all around saw for everything due to light weight and great speed power combo ! Great Saw!
I got my MC462 RC after being a little frustrated regarding the lack of power of the saws that I already owned, I wanted more. Well, I got more and then some with the MC462. Way back in the day when I was riding dirt bikes the rule was you got a bike powerful enough that it scared you when you first rode it. The reasoning was that you will learn to ride it, grow into it as you learn to respect it. That philosophy still applies today just as it did those many years ago. I wanted a saw that did ... read more not bog down, one I could put a long enough bar on it that I did not have to bend over so far every time I bucked logs. With the MC462 RC I got my saw. The full wrap grip is great and with a 25 inch bar this saw is exactly what I needed to keep me and my little family warm in the below zero winters here in Montana. Starting this saw with the new three position system is out standing, it just does not get any easier than this. I love this saw and you will too.

    Amazing Saw
At first I was skeptical as my 362 didn’t exactly run like a saw that was going to impress when it was new. The Oiler wasn’t putting out enough oil to fling off the end of my 25” bar and my old trusty 025 would cut faster. After a bit of research my 362 was soon sporting the very same high volume oil pump that my 461R has. Now I get to choose how much oil my bar and chain gets not some tree hugger. After a few tanks of gas and an oil pump upgrade this saw has come to life!

    Very Nice Pro Saw
I purchased this saw after going back and forth between the next closest competitor saw. When researching and shopping for a 60cc saw the MS362 CM wrap handle kept coming to the top between my two comparisons. Besides Stihl having a very solid dealer support network in my area this saw just simply had better factory features than anything else I could find. Wrap handle, dual felling spikes, and a chain catcher all stock helped me arrive to my final decision. I bought this saw from Act ... read more Automotive in Flora IL and couldn't be happier with my service at the time of the sale. They were very quick and responsive with literally my "last minute" order to get the saw before a weekend. I set this saw up with a 25" bar which has had some mixed opinions on the popular forums. I specifically say opinions because my dealer said the pro guys that he sells the MS362's to sets them up this same way. I have only operated this saw for about two hours but the grin has lasted for a couple of days now. This saw did exactly what it was supposed to do. It started up perfect, idled well and most importantly I buried the bar numerous times in that two hours cutting down a maple and was very pleased with the performance. I am pleased with the performance after a couple of tanks of fuel and I know this saw is expected to get stronger over the next several tanks. This saw was probably the most expensive 60cc pro saw I looked at, but the quality far outweighs the competition. I am so pleased with the quality of this saw that I plan on selling my current other brand pro 50cc saw and buy a MS 261 CM to accompany this saw.

    Last saw you'll ever buy!
I've had this saw for about 5 months and I have to say I have no complaints. I use this saw for about 3-5 hours every day and it's the perfect saw. One of the main reasons I bought this saw was not only for the power, but for the curved handle, it offers so many different ways of cutting and if you're in a tough spot it's super convenient. This saw can take on any tree you throw at it. Yes, it's pricey but all STIHL is because of the quality behind the name. Like any big saw it is fuel thirsty, ... read more so get a 5 gallon gas can instead of a 2.5

Excellent power to saw weight ratio.....absolutely perfect chainsaw
I have many Stihl products from backpack blowers, trimmers, weed eaters, and chainsaws. I own both the MS 362C Professional Chainsaw, and MS 201C Professional Pruning Saw. Both are excellent in ever respect. The MS362C is especially noteworthy in terms of the fact that it's a lightweight saw in my eyes when compared to the MS661 and MS461, yet provides the high horsepower and bar lengths needed for much larger jobs than the pruning saw MS 201C can handle. And....although not quite as powerful as ... read more the MS661C and MS461, it still has very good power and can handle moderately big jobs. It's weight and size are perfect in my mind when not cutting the largest of trees. I can switch from the 201 pruning saw to the 362 with no big issues from a weight standpoint. Many people just mention saw weight when discussing these type tools, and I find the 362's power to weight ratio to be exceptional....this saw can cut, and will not lug you down due to excessive weight. I rate both the MS362C and MS201C as the best available for my needs, anywhere from any manufacturer. Simply an excellent chainsaw in ever respect.

a pro saw for joe everyman
I'm not a professional by any stretch, but I work this saw hard. Felling/bucking dead pine and aspen for firewood, cutting trees that have fallen across single track trails, etc. Haven't tried to accomplish a job yet that this saw isn't up to. It's my third Stihl, and probably as big a saw as I'll ever need. If you're out there wondering whether a pro saw is overkill for a regular guy, the answer is no. A great all around saw that makes any job more fun.

    Great Saw all around saw
I have had this saw for a few weeks now, I have cut three cords of wood and fell two trees so far. I am very pleased with the performance and the power that the 362 C-M has to offer. This is my first stihl saw that I have owned, due to being hesitant on paying so much but as I have learned you get what you pay for, and after my experience so far I wont own any other saws. I purchased this saw with the 25" bar the saw has no problem pulling the chain through 24"+ oaks, although I do plan to get a ... read more 20" bar for smaller trees. Since buying this saw I have already began looking to replace my smaller saw with another stihl.
