When it comes to logging, farming, land clearing, tree service and big firewood cutting jobs, professionals trust the unique features that make STIHL the #1 selling brand of gasoline-powered handheld outdoor power equipment in America*. And at STIHL, we have a particular fondness for our professional category chainsaws. It’s where we built our reputation in the first place. To help you identify model features, look for these corresponding symbols: C = Comfort feature, E = Easy2Start™, Q = an additional chain braking system, R = wrap handle, and M = STIHL M-Tronic™.

Andreas Stihl developed the first electric chainsaw in 1926 and our first gasoline-powered saw in 1929. And not unlike the early automobiles of the Roaring 20’s, our chainsaws’ essential components – engine, bar and chain – remain familiar, though very much advanced, elements of our original chainsaw. Today, STIHL continues to put a high value on engineering and performance. That is why we custom design and manufacture our own guide bars and saw chains for all our machines in-house. This ensures optimal chainsaw performance in the field.

    Putting it to good use
I have probably put 30 hours of use on this chainsaw already. As long as I do my part to maintain it and keep the chain sharpened it keeps up with the big boys all day long. At the end of the day I’m not nearly as tired as the other guys with their heavier saws. No fiddling with carb setting, just oil gas and a quick sharpening with the new Stihl sharpening tool and off I go. Total down time is only 5 minutes for all that. Easy care!

    just needed some exhuast work
when i first got the saw it just seemed a little under powered and sluggish, so i ran it for the break-in period and it got a little better with time. nut i was still not very happy with it, would stall with a 16" full comp chisel chain(stihl). so i opened up the exhaust and now its a amazing saw with plenty of power to pull a 20" bar and aggressively ground full comp chisel chain thru some willow( a soft wood to be sure but it HAULS through it). never had any issue with oiling so long as you ... read more keep it clean and seems to not wear spark plugs like a carb unit does. all in all its a powerful workhorse in a light weight package, that will start in 5 pulls no matter what, . would be 5 star but the lack of power out of the box was a little disappointing for a saw of this price. to sum it up it is a great saw for someone who was looking for something better that the 271 series and something lighter weight than the 300 series saws, basically something i can cut as much fire wood as i have gas for and something i don't have to deal with carb tuning issues.

    I love this saw!
I bought the 261 C-M about two years ago, and it has operated flawlessly. I also have an older saw, and I was forever needing to fool with the carburetor adjustments to get it to run right. The M-Tronic system is just awesome. It starts easily and always idles perfectly. That's worth the price of admission right there. If I was a serious logger, I'd probably want to invest in something further up the line that is bigger and had more power, but this one is more than sufficient for my business. I ... read more do tree jobs from time to time, but do not run a dedicated tree service. I highly recommend this saw, and will never have another saw that doesn't come with the M-Tronic system! One note: The instructions say to engage the choke every time you start, even if it is hot. This is not true, and will cause more problems than it solves. It starts hot flawlessly on the first pull about 98% of the time. For the 2% of the times it doesn't, flip the choke and it'll fire right up. Happy sawing!

    good power-to-weight ratio
Replaced my MS281. Two pounds lighter with more power. Same comparison to the newer 271. Which it had the power of the 362 in the weight of the 261. Comes with 18-inch bar, which is just a bit undersized. 20-inch bar makes it more versatile, but a little nose-heavy, but manageable. I don't use the compression start. The dogs are almost too long. I dislike the switch to the hex- or torq screws for the plate that covers the bar/chain oil outlet port because the standard scrench ... read more doesn't have the head.

    Light little screamer
My wife and I are volunteer sawyers on the blue ridge parkway. Had a bad ice and wind storm last November that broke the tops out of over 300 trees in the Roanoke Virginia area closing the road for 6 months. This saw is awesome for bucking up trees and limbs. Really light and powerful, a joy when you know you'll be running it all day. Doesn't wear you out. Plus doesn't drink gas either. Go get you one of these, you won't regret it!

    My absolute favorite saw!
I bought my MS261 a few years ago from Hillside Small Engine in Lehighton. The very freindly and highly knowledgeable owner strongly recommended this model. My father has a small armada of about 10 saws and every time I borrowed one I kept going back to his MS260. After a few years , I have cut quite a bit of wood and this thing just rips right through it no matter what species. Very powerful, not too heavy and it really stretches a tank a gas. Spend the extra money and get it, you'll have a ... read more great saw for a long time.

another great product bought from my local dealer wilson hardware
love the light weight and with 28in light bar this thing is amazing glad my dealer could order it and set up the way that i like it it blows my 441c out the water and 3/4 wrap just makes it easy to use and is sexy the throttle response is wicked fast with a sharp chain i could barley stall it out on hard wood thanks stihl for another great product and thanks again to wilson hardware where unlike the big box stores your knowledge and help has yet again made me glad after 4 yrs from buying my ... read more first saw from them i bring all my friends and family to this store i appreciate all help from Dave and his wife

    Amazing saw.
When pulled from the box, my first impression was that it was a toy. It is so much lighter than the Stihl saws I’m used to using. Power is way up there and seems to be getting stronger with every tank. The angle of the handle is different and so the saw “points” differently than the previous generation Stihls’. It’s very much a “better” saw by design, lighter and more powerful than any other saw in its 72cc class. And it’s easier to use too. You’re gonna love this saw.

easy to start fast in the cut
Bought my stihl MS362 3 months ago replacing an 041. This new sthil starts easy with minimum effort and it cuts like a demon. I have the 25" bar making quick work on several 50" oaks both red and white. The dealer was outstanding in the review of the saw and explaining the new features. I cannot praise this saw enough, fast in the cut easy start ample power wonderful features. My 041 served me for 30 years of firewood cutting, I heat entirely with wood and also keep my parents supplied for their ... read more fireplace and 2 stoves. I feel this saw is better then my 041 and that says alot.

Stihl MS362 PRO Series Chain Saw
Large & Heavy, but that is what you would expect with a saw that has almost 5 Horsepower! Comes with 16, 18, 20, or 25" bars. The dealer said that after 5 tanks of gas is run through it, it will be broken-in with a noticable increase in power. I have put 2 tanks through mine & it seems to run fine. The Decompression valve makes it much easier to start then the Farm Boss model. This is the lowest priced model that has the Decompression valve. Only issue, which can be common with Stihl products, ... read more its easy to flood when trying to start.

Great saw for all around cutting
I upgraded to this saw from my MS311. This saw is the same weight, but has substantially more power. I like the dual element air filter, I can be confident that the engine is breathing clean air. I have a 16, 20 and 25" bar and cut everything from Pine to Osage Orange. As long as the chain is sharp this saw will cut everything you throw at it. It does use more fuel than the 311 did, but it also gets the job done a lot faster. My only complaint is that it is sometimes hard to start, but all of my ... read more Stihl equipment takes a few pulls before it fires.

Purchased this saw one year ago this week, and I have absolutely no complaints about the power and reliability of it. I purchased the RSLF chain in addition and in a race through a piece of Ash, cut faster than the 461 magnum. This saw will peel through hardwood, make sure to use the Stihl oil and ethanol free fuel, the bottom line is, if you need something that cuts fast and will go the distance, this is the best choice.

    My Go-To
Day in and day out, this saw performs. With the stock powerhead, I can run 16" or 25" like a breeze. If you know how to tune a carb, there is no problem, even with the M factor, (computer). This is a great cutting saw! I run a full crew with a HT 101, 201 TC, 362 C, and a 661 Mag. Since I bought the new saws, (still have the old ones as back up,) I've never needed anything else. My go-to is the 362. This thing is a champ!

    Great performer
I had the choice of an MS362 and an MS311. The side by side comparison was difficult as the are similarly equipped. I chose the 362 just because I intend on keeping it forever. I bought it to clear my property and I am not a pro. To my old big box chainsaws there is no comparison. This saw ate all of the trees in my yard to include a 28" sweet gum. The beauty is this saw is capable of doing that much everyday. Glad I paid the extra 200 for a saw I will eventually put in my will. Mike

    This saw is awsmoe
I got the 462 to take the place of my 441. After seeing it the weight difference is a lot. compared the two side by side. I think it is better balanced also. thought its a little pricey, after using it and cutting all day including limbing. I have not used my 260 sense.

    Very Impressed
I own a logging company and eagerly anticipatied the US release of this saw. It did not disappoint!!! Very good power and light weight Best air filtering system I’ve seen yet from Stihl

I couldn't wait for the U.S. release so I purchased through a Canadian dealership. I was lucky enough to get the Arctic version that has the heated carburetor and handle. I love it. Thankfully I live close enough to the store I purchased it from if any issues I can go see them. But to be honest I strongly doubt I will have any issues. I have put 6 tanks of gas through it and it is only getting better. I will want bigger felling spikes but that is just a personal preference.
