When it comes to logging, farming, land clearing, tree service and big firewood cutting jobs, professionals trust the unique features that make STIHL the #1 selling brand of gasoline-powered handheld outdoor power equipment in America*. And at STIHL, we have a particular fondness for our professional category chainsaws. It’s where we built our reputation in the first place. To help you identify model features, look for these corresponding symbols: C = Comfort feature, E = Easy2Start™, Q = an additional chain braking system, R = wrap handle, and M = STIHL M-Tronic™.

Andreas Stihl developed the first electric chainsaw in 1926 and our first gasoline-powered saw in 1929. And not unlike the early automobiles of the Roaring 20’s, our chainsaws’ essential components – engine, bar and chain – remain familiar, though very much advanced, elements of our original chainsaw. Today, STIHL continues to put a high value on engineering and performance. That is why we custom design and manufacture our own guide bars and saw chains for all our machines in-house. This ensures optimal chainsaw performance in the field.

    Very light yet Powerfull!!
I have had many chainsaws. We cut at least every single weekend and use saws all day long at least once a week. I have recently purchased the MS261 pro chainsaw and ran about 8 tanks of fuel in it. I broke it in as per owners manual. It is my goto saw now. Power to weight ratio is fantastic and much it cannot do. The 362 used to be my goto saw and still enjoy it but the weight factor makes the 261 best combination for me. I do not think you will find a better saw that is versatile and light and ... read more can take on most trees. I thoroughly enjoy it and think you will too!!

Nothing but great things to say
This saw is amazing. Hands down. From ease of start, great on gas, lots of power, barely any vibration and it cuts through trees like butter. I have 4 acres of wooded property that I am working on clearing with mainly hardwoods and very large poplars and this saw makes quick work of them. It is worth the extra money in my opinion to buy a professional saw. This is something I can see having for 20 years. I replaced an old 1982 Pro Saw from a different company that I got from my grandfather ... read more that still runs but was starting to be a bit unreliable. I was leary because that old saw was a powerful beast but this thing is just as powerful if not more.

    Great power and weight
The saw runs and starts very well with great power. Others have reported issues starting when hot, but i have not experienced this. For me it starts after 2 or 3 pulls when cold and after one pull when hot. I have 20+ tanks through it in the last two months bucking 16-24 inch red and white oak for fire wood. I purchased with a 20" bar which some people report is too much for the saw. The RM chain cuts faster/better on the 20 inch bar than the RS. With normal pressure and a sharp chain, ... read more the saw does not bog down when buried in oak. Of course how much pressure you put on the saw and how sharp the chain is will impact this. A great saw which is easy to handle and has plenty of power.

    Commercial quality and speed
This is one bad boy saw! Cuts like butter through 20" trees in a quick pass, I average 5 second cuts through 18-20" rounds! I own a landscaping business and we regularly remove trees and we also cut and sell wood, this is the best saw I have ever owned. I would highly recommend that, if it is within your budget, don't buy less, buy the best! Go with stihl! Always perform regular maintenance, use synthetic oil blend for your fuel, and never let the chain oil go out, and this will outlast the ... read more competitors saws :) stihl all the way! I regularly use and purchase their hedge trimmers, weed wackers, brush cutters, blowers, saws, and have yet to be disappointed! I definitely recommend the MS362-r for someone who needs a reliable, powerful, frequently used saw, and no, I did not get paid to right this review or even asked to. I am simply an extremely satisfied customer - Luke

    Very Nice Pro Saw
I purchased this saw after going back and forth between the next closest competitor saw. When researching and shopping for a 60cc saw the MS362 CM wrap handle kept coming to the top between my two comparisons. Besides Stihl having a very solid dealer support network in my area this saw just simply had better factory features than anything else I could find. Wrap handle, dual felling spikes, and a chain catcher all stock helped me arrive to my final decision. I bought this saw from Act ... read more Automotive in Flora IL and couldn't be happier with my service at the time of the sale. They were very quick and responsive with literally my "last minute" order to get the saw before a weekend. I set this saw up with a 25" bar which has had some mixed opinions on the popular forums. I specifically say opinions because my dealer said the pro guys that he sells the MS362's to sets them up this same way. I have only operated this saw for about two hours but the grin has lasted for a couple of days now. This saw did exactly what it was supposed to do. It started up perfect, idled well and most importantly I buried the bar numerous times in that two hours cutting down a maple and was very pleased with the performance. I am pleased with the performance after a couple of tanks of fuel and I know this saw is expected to get stronger over the next several tanks. This saw was probably the most expensive 60cc pro saw I looked at, but the quality far outweighs the competition. I am so pleased with the quality of this saw that I plan on selling my current other brand pro 50cc saw and buy a MS 261 CM to accompany this saw.

    Great power to weight!
I have been using this saw to clear land. I bought this saw to replace my 025 which is a very good saw also, just time for a new saw.The power to weight is great 10.8 pounds and 4 horsepower you can use this saw all day and have the power to cut through anything. The saw usually starts on the second pull and it will cut longer on a tank of gas. This is a great saw!

Happy Pappy with MS 261 20"
Back in early spring I had lighting damage to several trees 30" big white Oak. I had MS250 Stilh chainsaw 18" which I have used for several years and is Still a great saw, but it was not big enough to do the job for these big trees. I went to my Homestead store in Cleveland Tennessee and checked out the New saws.and with the help from Mr Davis it did not take long to decide what saw I needed and the good people at Homestead did jut that. They showed me the MS 261 professional 11.6 lb 50.2 cc ... read more (3.06 cu. in.)... which they pointed out the weight difference in this saw compared to the bigger 13 lb saws and with the power of same as other pro saws this was the saw for me. This a great saw cuts through 30' oak with ease and handles great the less weight is just what Pappy needed one great "BAD BOY SAW" thanks again Homestead of Cleveland for helping me select the right saw. more power then the ms260/great all around midsize saw
more power then my ms260, has vibration mounts, stainless muffler, new bar nut design.. works best for me on red oak with 16inch bar, .325 full chisel chain. no bogging out while cutting red oak. tried 16inch bar with 3/8 full chisel chain, 60 drive links, saw would bog while cutting. recommend .325 chain for hardwood for this saw. and 3/8 chain for softwood. that's just me. Hot rod of mid size chainsaws!
First ever purchase of a Stihl and now I know that the saying is true: You get what you pay for. The 362cm is a powerful saw that is a great all around saw. It may be a bit heavy for those only doing trimming, but for anything more is will rip through wood. I have never experienced such a fast saw. It had a 25" bar on it at the dealer, but I had them switch it out for a 20" bar with a yellow chain. Talk about fast cutting. And with the power of this saw, its definitely a Hot Rod saw! Also, ... read more the antivibration works very well. I can assure you, I will only buy Stihl products from now on!!

    This saw has great power.
I was going to buy the Stihl MS391 for it's power but the saw was to heavy and I decided to spent the extra money on the MS362 and I'am glad I did this saw has fantastic power and the weight is very light for the amount of power.I don't think there is a better Chain Saw out there that can even come close to this MS362,.buy it you will not be sorry. If you purchase a case of motomix Stihl 4 quarts minimum Stihl will double the warranty from 1 year parts and labor to 2 years parts and labor but you ... read more have to purchase that with the saw at the same time.

a pro saw for joe everyman
I'm not a professional by any stretch, but I work this saw hard. Felling/bucking dead pine and aspen for firewood, cutting trees that have fallen across single track trails, etc. Haven't tried to accomplish a job yet that this saw isn't up to. It's my third Stihl, and probably as big a saw as I'll ever need. If you're out there wondering whether a pro saw is overkill for a regular guy, the answer is no. A great all around saw that makes any job more fun.

    Built Alaska Tough!
I bought this saw two years ago and have used it extensively to cut old growth hemlock and sitka spruce on my land. This saw handles the big stuff like none other. I have put countless of hours on this saw under some extreme conditions and it never misses a beat! Plenty of power to cut through the biggest logs with total ease! Best investment I've made in a long time. This saw has made my life much easier!

I am completely satisfied with my MS 661C-M
I purchased the 661C-M to cut up a couple of mature Tulip Poplars. The saw never came close to bogging down with a 36" bar and a RS yellow chain. It is very easy to start whether cold or hot. I read all the reviews on the Stihl website before buying and noted that some owners complained about difficulty starting the 661 after it is hot. My guess is that they are using the cold start procedure on a hot saw. After the saw is warmed up, you don't need the choke or the decompression valve. Mine ... read more almost always starts on the first pull.

    Unflinching machine
After the 2018 Campfire in Paradise CA I had to replace my saws. I bought the 661 knowing there was a lot of work to do. This saw gets it on! The chain speed is scary fast, and it pulls the stock 36 and larger chains impressively. The electronic controls have been as good as can be. It takes two or three pulls in the morning, but starts with one pull the rest of the day. I have done a bit of milling with the saw and it piles up the biggest chips and strips I have ever seen in no time.. ... read more Looks like a big pot of spaghetti on the ground in seconds.
