Perfect saw for the serious woodsman
I purchased this saw a year ago after a recommendation from a friend who owned one. I was concerned it would become too heavy overtime. I was wrong. This saw has made my wood cutting so much more efficient. I cut 7-10 cords per season. This saw is well balanced and powerful. Another great product from Stihl!!! I can cut twice the wood in half the time. I never use a limb saw now. I don't want to take the 362 out of my hands.

    Very comfortable saw
Great saw. Has all the power that one could ask for. Starts easy and comfortable to use for extended amounts of time. Only 1 complaint I was using it on a hot humid day and I turned it off for a couple minutes when I went back to start it up it did not want to start. So I let it sit in the shade for a while then went back and it started right up. It only happened once so I am not too concerned about it. Great Great chainsaw. Would recommend it to anyone.

a pro saw for joe everyman
I'm not a professional by any stretch, but I work this saw hard. Felling/bucking dead pine and aspen for firewood, cutting trees that have fallen across single track trails, etc. Haven't tried to accomplish a job yet that this saw isn't up to. It's my third Stihl, and probably as big a saw as I'll ever need. If you're out there wondering whether a pro saw is overkill for a regular guy, the answer is no. A great all around saw that makes any job more fun.

A great saw and an improvement on the MS 260 Pro
I have had 3 Stihl saws. I have and AVEQ-24 that I have had for over 30 years. I have a MS 260 Pro that I bought so that I could have a saw for my vacation home too. I have enjoyed the MS 260 Pro and wasn't keen on replacing it, but my son needs a good saw, so I bought a new MS 261-C-M figuring I would keep the one I liked the best and give my son the other one. I used the MS 261 C-M this weekend and it starts perfectly and has great power on cuts that required the entire 18 inch bar. I have ... read more decided to keep it for myself and gift the other saw to my son.

    Light and Powerful
I used to have an 039 that ran like a top and would cut through anything. I gave it away a few years ago when I thought I was done running a saw. Eventually, I got to the point of needing one again. Liked the power of the 039/MS391 series, but did not want that heavy of a saw with my old back. The MS-261 C-M has almost as much power and is a whole lot lighter saw. Cuts through anything a 20 inch bar can handle without and fuss.

This product is a good saw
The 261 saw has improvements over the old 026. Easier to start. The oil and gas fill opening have been improved. The only thing on the oil fill opening, it is a little harder to clean the wood chips off before opening to refill. The air filter has been improved but I never had a problem with the old one. It is a good running saw. I still have my 10 year old 026 and plan to get a kit with all the rubber mounts (if I can find one) and stuff where I can rebuild it. It still runs great just a little ... read more hard to start and the mounts are worn out..

    What a huge difference!
I had only used homeowner chainsaws until I purchased this very powerful pro saw. I'm preparing to move to Alaska and I anticipate needing to fell some huge trees killed by the bark beetle. I'll also want to use this saw for milling boards with an Alaskan chainsaw mill. My neighbors huge oak tree just fell and we took turns bucking it into nice piles of fire wood. The saw was a pleasure to use and I highly recommend stepping up to a pro saw. I love the MS 661!

    Excellent saw with great power
I upgraded from a excellent running 046 magnum with a 25 inch bar. Didn't really need a larger saw, but wanted to try a new m-tonic. I traded up to a new 661 with a 28" lightweight bar and WOW!! I was really impressed. Tons of power and not a bit disappointed despite of being apprehensive of trading a great running saw for a newer and bigger one. Will cut thru any type tree with ease. I couldn't expect anything less from my dealer, Martin's small engine repair, they are the best! Own 6 chainsaws ... read more and a weedeater. STIHL. the name says it all.

    Can make some changes
I have an Alaskan sawmill! The chainsaw is pretty strong but has met it's match. I wished Stihl would get in the market to outfit their saws with aftermarket companies idea's. Could definitely rethink the chain tightening process. I have been a Stihl user since 1997and have witnessed some amazing changes in the products they offer. But would love to see Stihl get into Alaskan sawmill configuration with their overall industry leading technology and techniques. Because we all know how German engineering is

    great powerhead
Another great saw right out of the box. I use this saw to power my turbosawmill. Plenty of power right out of the box, no need for mods. Its expensive, but your not buying it for the price point, your buying it because you need guaranteed dependable power right from the start, and that's what you get.

    Wow!
I am so glad I went with a professional model! I had several lower priced chainsaws in the past and they were toast! I have trees on my property that range from 12" to 24" OAK and Walnut and this STIHL melts right through them all. Chains lubricate well and the chains also wear nicely. One thing for sure that sets these saws above the rest is the ease of starting even when it is cold. I love it and feel great about spending this kind of money for a saw that will "GIT ER DONE!"

    EXCELLENT CHAINSAW FOR HOMEOWNER/PROFESSIONAL
I own a MS261 CQ, the power to weight ratio is superior!! The QUIK handle chain break is a must for me, definitely a safety feature that I like. Serviceability, is made easy with the canister style air filter, and escaped bar nuts. Mine is equipped with a 20in bar, with a RS chain, WOW is the response from everyone who try it!! I LOVE MY STIHL!!!! We own STIHL EVERYTHING, wish they built cars!!

A great replacement for the MS660
This saw lives up to everything I expected it to be and more. Being next to the biggest saw Stihl makes,it's heavy and powerful. I've owned 2 MS660's and ran them extensively. The new MS661 has them beat. Uses less gas, has less vibration, starts easier, power delivery is more consistent, an overall pleasure to run. As long as it continues to perform this good I have no regrets about my purchase. Also, a shout out to my Stihl dealer. Brown's Supply in Acme Pa. Great guys to do business with.

    mini mill monster
This saw is great for a lot of applications. I have been milling with it and I am very happy with its power. It glides through soft and hard wood and bucks logs like a light sabre. Happy to have it with my smaller stihl saws.

    Out cuts My MS660
I own 4 Stihl pro saws, MS362 Arctic, MS461R full wrap MS660R full wrap and now this MS661R full wrap. I cut dead seasoned locust almost exclusively and the saws all eat it up very fast. My 660 has a dual port muffler and is tuned to run but it seems this saw may have it beat, I was skeptical about the M Tronic as this is my first saw with it. Judging by the performance and easy starting I will own more. My MS362 was the last non M tronic saw they had and now I wished I'd have waited and bought ... read more one with it. Time will tell over the long term but I am very happy with the saw so far and it only has one tank thru it, its definitely going to gain power as it breaks in.
