    Light weight
Very nice saw. Lightweight easy to use. Just need to know how to start. Full choke 2 pulls. 1/2 choke 1 pull on cold start. 1/2 choke 1 or 2 pulls on warm start. Perfect!! I am not a professional logger. I consider myself a novus. Even know it's a really good cutter know when to lay the saw down. Meaning this saw is not meant to cut really large diameter logs. Even know it will. It's to hard on a small engine like this. So when you get to the big stuff. STOP! Pick up your ... read more large saw and move on with the big stuff. My belief is if you maintain this saw and use it for what it is designed for. You have just bought a saw for life. Oh recommended see YouTube on proper maintenance and up keep of your saw, chain, and bar. Enjoy your saw!! I am!!

    Excellent Chain Saw!!
I bought this chain saw to finish out my Stihl yard equipment. Excellent chain saw!!! Starts and runs every time. So much better than the cheap 14" "Walmart" chain saw. Plenty of power. Cuts like a hot knife through butter. Should have invested in it years ago.

4 stars only because it has only been one month
I see the reviews about this saw not starting but mine has been great - starts on one pull every time (once warm). I did not buy the pre-mixed fuel just the 2 cycle engine oil for the extended warranty and mixed mine own, but no issues. I have used this for small trees and branches as well as cutting 6x6 landscape ties for a retaining wall. After 3 weeks of use I have had no issues and love the saw. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is that I have not had it long enough.

    Good Saw, Some Issues
I dumped the oil without knowing it the other day. I do not like the toolless caps for the fuel and the chain oil. I don't if I forgot to put the cap on or if I did not put it on correctly. The saw was cutting crooked too right after I started using it the first time. I replaced the chain with the yellow chain, much better cuts. The saw has a good sized fuel reservoir. The quick chain adjuster is too stiff to tighten / loosen the chain easily.

    Great product for the price
Purchased the Stihl MS251 Woodsman Easy Start chain saw and it has worked great. Easy to start, comfortable to operator, and has plenty of power. I have owned several competitors saws and after using their products several times I had to return to the repair shops. The Stihl saw has surpassed any saw I have owned. I use the recommended octane fuel, additivies, and high end chain saw oil. So far this saw has exceeded my expectations!!!

    Great saw!
This is saw is great! I own 200 acres of woods and own a couple of Stihl professional series saws. I was looking for a smaller light weight saw that was easier to use for smaller tasks and this saw more than does that. I've used it to fell small trees creating food plots and clearing spots for tree stands and now find myself using this saw over my pro series saws to cut logs for firewood. This saw has plenty of power and I love the easy start and chain adjustor. This saw is a must have!

    Surprising durability
I'm a chainsaw carver and use my stihls all the time for hours on end. I actually got this saw as a gift, I liked its power and how light it was but I wasn't sure how long it would last because it was a homeowner saw, and considering I would be using it for at least 4 hours a day, and not once or twice a month for 20 minutes, I had my doubts about its longevity but after a few months of intense use and no issues it has become my favorite saw out of my six, it starts easily every time and runs ... read more like a champ. Great saw for the price, your not going to find a better saw on the market for the price. Nice simple great quality saw that anyone can start and use.

Cuts Wood Like A Knife Through Butter
I have used this saw for years around the house and farm. The feature I like most about this saw is that the blade and bar have a thinner kerf than most chainsaws. This allows a noticeable increase in cutting performance. The chain teeth also stay sharp longer than most other saws I have used. The ergonomics are great and the saw feels good while in use. The light weight of the saw allows for extended use of this saw. Although I have larger and more powerful saws I will use this one more often ... read more because it is less fatiguing. The only knock I will give this saw is the design of the oil fill cap. The way it is designed it is very easy to mistakenly leave the cap loose and the oil will slowly spill out of the reservoir. Overall this saw is the best I have used in this size category.

    awesome saw!
I purchased this saw this week with a 16inch bar, couldn't ask for a better saw. i don't cut trees daily, so this was the ideal choice. i had a large peacan limb fall out of the tree. it was up to about a foot in diameter and aprox. 20-25ft long. the saw handled flawlessly and didn't use much gas, or oil. Cut like a hot knife threw butter. if your just going to use a saw every once in awhile, then i highly recommend this one. no question, stihl makes the best saws out there.

    Excellent saw for the price
I have a farm and wanted a saw that is light to use for trimming back trees along fence rows. This saw fits this need like a well tailored suit. I use ethanol free 89 octane gas with Stihl ultra 2 cycle oil and Sea Foam. It starts great and has plenty of power. Easy on gas. Some of the bad reviews on this saw I think are operator error such as cheap, dirty, or old gas.If you use cheap gas you need to use a good additive to keep gas from going bad. Some are do to exceeded expectations of what the ... read more saw was designed for like, you want a light saw with big fuel capacity, but more gas adds more weight or your cutting trees that you need a bigger saw for. Another issue is not following the starting procedure. I also have a outdoor wood burner. In 2014 I bought a Stihl ms 311 it's been an excellent saw also.

    Been great so far!
Bought this 1 month ago. Running pure gas, (no ethanol) after 5 tank fulls with zero complaints. I've been running a saw for close to 20 years and was hesitant to buy a non-professional grade saw. I am pleased with the power of this saw, and it's been worked well for the short time of owning it. I dont regret buying it for one second, great home owner saw! If you want to avoid the restart issues others are having, only run ethanol free gas. But what do I know, I'm just some guy in a truck...

    Another Quality Stihl Product
I work for a licensed Stihl dealer in Ottawa lake Michigan. I see the high quality and great value of many Stihl products on a daily basis. Previously I worked for a landscape company experiencing many tools in the field and now in the shop. Picked up this saw for work around home and small side jobs. have put 4-5 tanks of fuel through the saw. Running Moto-Mix, Wood cutter bar oil, 18" bar with a full chisel chain this saw is a running sun of a gun. been very impressed with the weight to power ... read more ratio of the saw thus far. Keep a sharp full chisel chain on the saw and it will cut through most small timber in the Ohio/Michigan area with ease. only complaint is the saw has a single bar nut so keep a scwrench handy and check that the bar nut is tight regularly. Haven't had any issues thus far just an precaution I deemed necessary since purchase.

As good as I had hoped.
This model was toward the top of the "homeowner" category, and it was on sale. I had a couple of big poplar trees uprooted and leaning on other trees, I was wondering if it, and I, were up to the task of bringing them down and cutting into rounds. (I'd done some minor chainsaw, felling, and bucking work when younger) It's been great with the logs, even the 16-18'' sections with this 18" bar. I needed a rest afterwards, but the saw is ready to go again. Starts easily, plenty of power if managed ... read more appropriately. I think it's well placed for occasional heavy homeowner work, and more usual lighter tasks. Purchased a Stihl peavy hook and timber jack along with it, best money I've spent in a long time.

    Very Powerful...Easy to Start...Work Horse
I waited a year and a half to write a review just to be sure this chainsaw was worth five stars. To start with I had read the reviews about how this model was hard to start. My dealer (ELF industries in Helotes TX) provided me a one hour training session and explained every part of this chain saw. I left the store very confident that I just bought a great product....which I did. The first major challenge was a huge wind storm that took down five trees in my back lot. The chain saw performed with ... read more no issues what so ever. Then over the year we had several more storms and my chain saw was being used more as a rescue saw than a home owners occasional saw. I volunteered after two storms to clean debris for three disabled Vet's houses. Worked like a charm. Started first time, stayed running all day with no power loss. Amazing piece of machinery. I just returned from the coast where I volunteered again to help two disabled Vets that just received their settlement for Hurricane Harvey ( yes Harvey that how long it too to get their settlements) and they could start cleaning their property. One year after the purchased date this chainsaw works like the day I bought it.

This chainsaw gets the job done.
I am very happy with my recent purchase of this chainsaw. I had 8 trees felled by a professional in my yard that needed to go for safety reasons. I have an older Jonsered 2054 I have used since 2000 but now has oil delivery problems and the bar gets hot. My new stihl saw works very well and I have cut up about 1/2 Of those trees so far. I am very pleased with the performance and the chain adjustment is very easy to do. The gas and oil fill caps are also easy to handle with no other tools ... read more required. I recommend this saw to maintain your property.

Excellent saw, very lightweight and extremely reliable
I have no clue what all these people on here are talking about when they say they can't start theirs or the pull cord breaks or that the chain is crap. All those problems are non existent on my chainsaw.I have never had a single problem with it and I bought it new. This saw has saved me when my bigger saws wouldn't start or when something broke on them.I love this saw for cutting limbs on big trees to cutting up moderately sized trees for firewood.I own several Stihls such as the ms 261,the ms 270 ... read more and the ms 291,oh and the ms 201tc and aside from major kickback with the ms261 and the 270,they all have been extremely reliable and have always had plenty of power. The ms 180 doesn't have the power my other saws have but it has surprised me a few times cutting big trees because my other saws had some minor issues. Its always been ready to tackle any job and has never given me a single starting issue. So to all you who have had problems, either you had a saw that was bad from the factory or you just don't know how to start a saw with the easy start.I love this saw and am extremely happy with it and would definitely buy another one and would definitely recommend and have recommended this saw several times. This is probably my favorite saw out of all the Stihls I own!

Great value in a capable saw for light home use
This is an awesome saw for light use. The easy start system makes starting the saw (usually the biggest nightmare), a breeze. The mechanism that enables tool-free chain tightening is also great. The bar oil automatically dispenses and the anti-vibration technology works well. The dealership recommended “motomix” as the 2-cycle fuel and it works well. My only observation that isn’t positive is that it drinks fuel and uses bar oil quickly and that the chain will need regular sharpening if used ... read more heavily (as with any tool).

    Absolutely love my 180
The 180 is a great all around small saw! I have owned my 180 for about 8 years now and never had an issue with it. It’s great quality it runs hot has plenty of power for what it is. It’s always my first go to saw out of the 4 that I own. I have even fell many small trees with it and it goes everywhere with me on my UTV with me. I would highly recommend this saw to anyone looking for a small affordable saw!
