    Glad I bought it
Bought the MS170 after I got truly sick of trying to start my 30-year-old Brand X. Notwithstanding complaints I've read, the MS170 is easy to start and goes on the third or fourth pull if you follow the owner's manual directions. So far I've run about three tanks of gas through it, cutting pine slash from the local mountains and oak deadfalls at the ranch for firewood. Needless to say, goes through pine like hot butter, but it does very well on 6-8" seasoned oak logs too. Well balanced, plenty ... read more of power (although not fully broken in yet), light, good homeowner saw. I typically use it about once every other month.

    Great saw.
I needed a good priced ground saw and even though this is not listed as a professional use saw that is what it gets used as with no problems.

This saw will take a beating.
I have 5 of these saws and 4 running 9 hours a day. I burn through 2 gallons of bar oil and almost 5 gal of gas a day. They are being used in my orchard to cut it down to graft. Incredible little chain saw! Light weight, good engine, the bar and air filter are really cheap but everything else is good. These ms170s will be running 9 hours a day 6 days a week for 2 months. After our job Is done I will come back and review at the end of the job. If you need a small saw you can't beat the 170 for the money!

    Works Great!
Does what I need it to do. Using it for home use and for clearing limbs at my hunting property. It won't see daily use, but so far its performed very well. My local Stihl dealer did the initial start up and show me the ins and outs of the saw. Read the manual as well. My first time starting the saw, required me to pull the rope a few more times than I would've liked. I pulled 5 times in the cold choke position, then moved to warm choke for 5 pulls and finally started after I put it in normal run position.

    great product
this saw just feels right in my hands. it starts from cold in only two pulls(no primer bulb)and once it gets going then just one pull. it has power to spare and could quite easily cut down very large trees. very easy to maneuver and easy to maintain. much better quality than the two previous that I owned. keep the bar chain oil topped off and the gas mixed correctly and it will slice through any tree that you put in front of it. all in all I'm very pleased with my purchase and I look forward to ... read more using it more often.

    Best chainsaw I’ve ever used...
This chainsaw is light enough to use all day without fatigue and strong enough for most everything. I’ve had mine for 4 years and it is the best saw I own. Lighter than my ms460 and not that much slower. Not that much heavier than my 020t, but the ms250 will leave the 020t in a pile of sawdust. Parts are readily available, but if this thing quits, I’m buying another one.

Easy work on tree widths up to 1.5x the length of the bar so far.
I've brought down and cut up a total of 12 full grown trees with this saw now, about a 50-50 mix of Fir and Maple around our farm. I've also put to use on dozens of downed tree branches and cut down several stumps with no issues. Keep the chain sharp and oiled up and this thing cuts so well it's like having magical powers. If I ever upgrade it will just be to have a longer bar for some of the bigger trees on the ground out on our property. Local dealership is awesome.

Light weight and tons of power - very reliable
I have used this saw to cut down several trees in the 4-6inch size without issue. It has fired up every time I needed it, and ran particularly well in cold weather. I find the light weight is awesome for getting the job done. I am extremely pleased with this saw and am glad I chose to go with it. I really cannot emphasize enough how solidly built this saw is, it has handled everything I have thrown at it with ease.

    awesome saw!
I purchased this saw this week with a 16inch bar, couldn't ask for a better saw. i don't cut trees daily, so this was the ideal choice. i had a large peacan limb fall out of the tree. it was up to about a foot in diameter and aprox. 20-25ft long. the saw handled flawlessly and didn't use much gas, or oil. Cut like a hot knife threw butter. if your just going to use a saw every once in awhile, then i highly recommend this one. no question, stihl makes the best saws out there.

Strong saw that takes care of business!
I bought this saw to cut up a pine tree that fell after Hurricane Irma. Gassed it up, adjusted the chain using the quick adjust tool, and went to work. I absolutely love the Easy start system on this machine! It takes almost no effort to pull start it! Just make sure you use either non ethanol gas or premium with your fuel mixture. I've used it randomly for 2 weeks now and am very happy with my purchase. Looking forward to keeping this saw in use for years to come.

Fantastic saw, very easy to start, great power, easy to handle.
Just bought my 251 C-BE from Walla Walla Saw and Knife today. They walked me through the safety features of the saw and then went through the starting procedure very thoroughly. Got the saw home, fired up on the 2nd pull (first prime the carb, then 1 pull with full choke, then 1 pull on the start position). I have past shoulder injuries and pulling the start on this saw could not be easier. Pull about 1/4 of the way out and the inertia does the rest. This feature is so worth the slight amount of ... read more extra money! I let the saw warm up per the owners manual and went to work. This saw has LOTS of power. If you need more power than this, you are probably a pro logger. Very high build quality. Chain has not stretched yet and is still sharp. I really cannot say enough positive about this high-tech and beautiful saw. If you are thinking about an easy to start and handle saw at a very reasonable price, you won't go wrong purchasing this saw. I fully expect that this is the last chain saw I will ever have to buy. Thank you, Stihl, for such a quality product!

Meets my needs for high end home owner saw.
My needs range from tree limbing to trunk bucking. The MS251 with 18 inch bar cut through trunks up to 20" with no hesitation. It is new with new chain so it made the cutting easy I know. However it did not hesitate or lose power during the cut. The saw is light enough that topping was not fatiguing. When you're on the north side of 65, that is a major plus. All in all, the 251 has the power to do the job I need while being easy to handle

    Best saw I’ve ever owned
I was in the market for a new saw when a huge wind storm pounded us for 48hrs. We lost 4 trees, power lines & auto damage... house is clear. I’ve run 5 fuel tanks through the saw & it is by far the best saw I’ve ever owned. Good power, well balanced & Very low vibration. I really like the tool less chain adjustment & the fuel & oily plug design. Also, I really recommend the easy start.

3rd week after Log Cabin purchase.
Beats the previous saws I have had. We had a wind storm down over 200 trees. I burned up a box store cheapie. The next weekend a bought a Stihl MS251 and never regretted it. It took a week to before I drive all the way up my driveway to our cabin. A year later I am still working on cleaning up the mess upland. The Stihl starts and runs on demand. Has never given me grief. Cuts twice as fast and is more predictable previous saws I have owned. I would buy another Stihl but realistically I don't ... read more see me ever needing another saw. Time will tell.

    Dependable, Hard working chain saw
I bought this chainsaw after having multiple problems with my old inexpensive saw. As soon as I stepped up to a Stihl, I could feel the the difference when I cut wood. The saw starts easily hot or cold and performs well.

    Love the size
I needed a saw for the weekend and needed my old 271 and 391 serviced. I was amazed by the power of such a lightweight. Admittedly I’m over 65 and not as spry as I used to be, but this would have been a great addition for one of my larger saws years ago. Great work from a solid company. Thanks guys !!!! It will get a good workout. Thanks again

    EZ start, Great features
Bought my 211 as a replacement to my Husqvarna which I had for many years. Made the change due to the EZ start feature which is fantastic. Had shoulder surgery and with the ez start, you simply pull the cord maybe halfway out and the saw does the rest. Takes a couple pulls to start but if you follow the directions for starting, it works every time. No more pulling and pulling to get the saw to turn over. Also the chain tightener is a snap and takes 30 seconds maybe to tighten the chain. All ... read more without tools. Cuts fast too for a mid size but will bog down if you try to force it.

    Great saw!!!
I bought a piece of property that was logged. I had trees laying everywhere. So I new I would be cutting a lot more then the average home owner. I bought the 211 because of size and weight. It has done great. Over the winter I cut almost every day. I was cutting an average of 5.5 days out of every week from Nov. to March. This saw never let me down. The easy start is awesome. The easy chain tensioner is great and saves a lot of time. This saw is light weight and very easy to use.
