homeowner? i think its a pro saw
They say for light clean-up. I put this saw thru a brutal seven months. I cut everyday several hours to ten hours each day using my ms-170. It cut around three hundred riks of firewood mostly oak. Around one hundred riks of hickory for cooking another 100 of pecan. Countless ceder Black walnut and other woods fortje sawmill. Never skipped a beat it starts in a couple pulls everytime no major issues at all. Im building a wood empire on the back of a ms-170. I Cant wait to upgrade to a bigger saw ... read more this week im excited.

Small end size easy to handle
I purchased this size saw based on outstanding experience with a similar 16 inch blade Stihl saw I've been using for 10/15 years. If the new machine will work as well and be a dependable I will be very satisfied.

    Awesome little machine.
I bought the MS 170 approx. two years ago just for occasional use. I bought a 6 acre farm one year ago and ever since then, I have been using the chainsaw religiously.. I use it to cut down big trees, brush, etc. It has completed every job I have started. It has started on every pull, the only con is the gas tank is too small... This is like the little train that could, it just does it. Now I am in the market for something bigger and stronger. I am looking at the MS 250. I strongly recommend this chainsaw...

I'm not cutting giant redwoods here folks. I got the best chainsaw to take care of larger limbs around the house. It performed perfectly with no snags. One of my favorite features was the ease of starting. I was shocked how easy it was. I was also impressed with the price. I was going to hire a guy to come over to cut my limbs. LOL.. He was going to charge me two times the cost of my new chainsaw! Can't wait for my "Non-Stihl" string trimmer to break dow so that I can buy a Stihl!

Great cutting power from such a lightweight and easy to use saw
I received an MS 180 CB-E "Mini Boss" as a gift from an older relative who could no longer use it. What a great saw, just a pleasure to use, starts immediately and with very little effort. Perfect for cutting up windfalls for firewood, and felling 12-16" diameter snags. Light and balanced enough to work aloft. Perfect for clearing brush all day long. The only time the bigger MS 360 leaves the shed anymore is for the truly heavy jobs, but the 180 always comes along for bucking and clearing.

    EZ start, Great features
Bought my 211 as a replacement to my Husqvarna which I had for many years. Made the change due to the EZ start feature which is fantastic. Had shoulder surgery and with the ez start, you simply pull the cord maybe halfway out and the saw does the rest. Takes a couple pulls to start but if you follow the directions for starting, it works every time. No more pulling and pulling to get the saw to turn over. Also the chain tightener is a snap and takes 30 seconds maybe to tighten the chain. All ... read more without tools. Cuts fast too for a mid size but will bog down if you try to force it.

Easy Starting, Nice Power, Good Balance, Relatively Light
I'm on tank 3 and so far and I've been pretty careful during the initial break in but the saw has been as advertised. The easy start feature is nice when you get use to it and the saw does a good job trimming and cutting through moderate sized timber. The tool-less quick chain tensioner is a plus as well. I looked at several competitor saws and seriously at one other major brand. The Stihl reliability, durability, service reputation and the 211s features were the final determining factor. This ... read more saw is a nice light/medium duty small saw and I'd recommend it as a home owner or ranch hand saw

    Great saw!!!
I bought a piece of property that was logged. I had trees laying everywhere. So I new I would be cutting a lot more then the average home owner. I bought the 211 because of size and weight. It has done great. Over the winter I cut almost every day. I was cutting an average of 5.5 days out of every week from Nov. to March. This saw never let me down. The easy start is awesome. The easy chain tensioner is great and saves a lot of time. This saw is light weight and very easy to use.

Used a couple of times now and worlds better than prior basic saw.
What took the prior saw close to 2 hours, I was able to complete in about 20 minutes. So easy to start !

    Works Every Time!
Bought my Stihl MS251C almost a year ago, and it is fantastic. Starts beautifully, usually with three easy pulls, and the chain tension adjuster saves me the trouble of carrying a wrench and screw driver with me, like I've had to do with all my previous non-Stihl saws - not that I have to adjust it often. I have a small farm, and it has handled everything I have thrown at it. Light weight, and runs a long time on a tank of gas. I can't say enough about how great a saw this is!

    Great features
This is my first Stihl product. I bought this saw based on independent reviews as well as Stihl's reputation. I was not disappointed. I am really enjoying my new saw. It doesn't overdo the chain oil for one thing. Adjustments of chain tension are quick and on the tools necessary. It is very easy to fact, that might be my only off-hand complaint is that I am so used to really yanking on the start cord that I've had to retrain myself to take it easy on this saw. This is ... read more definitely a saw that I will give a block of instruction on it's use before I ever loan it out.

Pefect saw for 99% of all homeowners needs
Dealer removed saw from box, assembled bar and adjusted chain. Added fuel and bar oil and started it. 3rd pull it was idling. Salesman showed me some easy methods to start it which was very helpful. Overall a wonderful experience. I purchased the synthetic oil which extended my warranty another year. 2 tank fills so far with no issues. I like the size of saw, similar to my old Poulan in size but more power and much less vibration. The Poulan just plain wore out, never started easy and bar, chain ... read more and clutch were getting dangerous so I retired it and upgraded to the STIHLl MS250. The MS 250 starts on 1st or 2nd pull every time and never needed to adjust carb. Good power to weight ratio. Perfect size for smaller brush up to medium trees. The MS 250 is big enough to cut down trees that are way too big for my ability. Feels light. I love the saw so far.

You get what you pay for.
My Stihl is a very good tool. I've had it a little over a year. Had three other brands which were not quite as good. When I first got it, I could not get it to start. Did just what the book said. Took it back to the store and the salesman showed me how this unit starts. Nothing like the manual. Starts every time and runs like a champ. Cuts through wood like it's butter. To start the saw, you want to put it on choke for one pull only. Kick it up one notch and it starts right up. Very easy to use ... read more and maintain. The chain oiler work really good.

powerful, handy, easy start, low vibration
I use my saw around the farm. Have put about 12 hours on it. Easy start, plenty of power, and runs great. The best part is my hands don't vibrate when I shut it down. It is well balanced and easy to handle. The only thing is that it uses a little more fuel than my old one, but does have more power.

    MS 181 C-BE
Bought this chainsaw to use around the house, trimming magnolia trees and some other trees. I had problems starting the saw when I first got it because I didn't know how to take advantage of the Easy2Start system. I took it to the dealer I bought it from and they showed me how to start it correctly. Now that I know how to start it correctly, it is very, very simple to start. You really don't have to pull hard on the rope at all. I haven't had an issue with it. Cuts through trees like butter.

    Well worth the money
This is an affordable saw for a starting business. I needed a chainsaw for cutting down small trees for customers. Without having a large budget, I researched and found that this saw should meet my needs. So far it's working great. I'm definitely going to upgrade later, because of the power when a bind is put on it. However, it makes fast work of small to midsize trees. Very dependable! Would recommend.

I really like the easy start and the tool less chain tensioner. Very easy to use and plenty of power for a home owner
