Good enough for trimming trees around the house.
I've been using it for about three weekends cutting small limbs on several trees around the house. I find it a little awkward to start only, because the handle guard isn't large enough to put my steel toe boots in for anchoring. The light weight of this saw makes it easy to manage. As long as I don't allow the bar to get in a bind it has been doing its job.

    Powerful machine
Bought this on sale and have never regretted this. Starts easily and cuts wood much bigger than rated with no problems. Really like the handle brake when moving from site to site. Safety is extremely important to me and this little saw fits the bill. Highly recommend for clean up operations or cutting for the fireplace it's that good

Best entry level saw a available
I’ve had this saw for many years now and it has done jobs way bigger than it ever was meant to do. I must have had it at least 15 years now. Maybe 10. I’ve replaced a bar oil reservoir and a chain one time. It is very powerful for a small entry level saw. It has been worked very hard recent cutting down 34 ash trees all around 50 feet tall. It has a thin bar and blade that allows it to cut through fast. Some of the trees were more than two feet across. It had zero problems. It’s light weight. ... read more It’s perfect. Everyone should have one of these. The only suggestions I would have would be to make the gas tank bigger and the bar oil tank bigger. It runs dry fairly quick. And I’ll add again that I use it for way more than it was built to do. It’s a great saw. At this price you will find nothing comparible.

Great Chainsaw with plenty of power
Great chainsaw and it has plenty of power for the farmer too. I say that because I use it on the farm too. It's weight and ease of use, I wouldn't want too use anything else on the farm all day long. It's a great chainsaw to have for cutting wood. The only thing I would change is the oil cap. I have had issues with it locking closed like it should. That would be the only thing I would change. Even with that I would still say the same for this chainsaw as I did previously.

    MS 251 Wood Boss Review
The MS 251 Wood Boss is a good saw, but I finding it lacking (power) compared to the MS 250 that it replaced. Other than that the two saws are virtually identical. To me a chainsaw needs that straight (when called upon) power like that of the MS 250, but with the MS 251 one has to get it spooled up before making the cut, and that's not a good look for a quality saw. It is for this reason that I could only give the MS 251 Wood Boos four out of five starts. It's still a quality STIHL product, but ... read more every time I use it I miss my old MS 250.

The last saw you will need. But not the only one you will want.
First of all i saw this gorgeous piece of machine and needed to have it. Then I put it head to head with the farm boss. While it doesn't have the low end grunt of the farm boss it makes up with the lighter weight and enhanced maneuverability. From cutting trail to falling small, medium and large trees the wood boss can do it all. Given a choice between the two I would take the wood boss all day long. Stihl has made a superior product and an excellent machine. The well thought out engineering ... read more makes the saw easy to work on and fun to run.

MS180 Chainsaw does the small jobs well
Its a bit smaller chainsaw and engine, so it doesn't always make it through wet wood or larger logs quickly. But give it time and let it do the work. We use it on mostly firewood and felling small <7" trees...it does the job! My disappointments, although I knew them when purchasing: -Plastic dog teeth. Wish these were metal to really bite into the wood. -No priming bulb. So far we start every time, but this will be frustrating in the future I'm guessing.

    Handy to have
Used stihl years ago in a professional role. They always worked 8 to 10 hrs a day no issues other than routine maintenance. It was an easy choice to buy the MS 180 for work at home. Quality is still there. In fact I also picked up a used one off a co worker built in 1983 that still starts on the second pull. You can go cheaper but in time you will realize why it was cheaper.

    Not Swayed By Other Reviews
I needed to purchase a chainsaw to help clear downed trees and limbs from the recent hurricane, I read a lot of reviews on this model as well as others and saw where most of the negative comments on hard to start especially after it had been running for awhile. I can tell you that i never had one issue getting this to restart, hot or cold. Someone else that was helping just purchased a new saw form another brand and he about wore his arm out every-time he had to fuel it up and restart it. This ... read more saw had adequate power and these were not small trees we were cutting up. I have purchased other Stihl products and have come to trust the brand.

    My first Stihl Chainsaw
I've had 3 different chainsaws but this is my first Stihl chainsaw. I did purchase a Stihl weed trimmer and absolutely love it. Same with this chainsaw. Easy start, actually everything about it is easy. Light weight, powerful, very little vibration, easy to clean and as a 67 year young guy I feel very comfortable with this saw. I am also a woodworker and recently upgraded to a larger lathe. This thing is just awesome round off rough edges prior to mounting on my lathe. Absolutely recommend for ... read more anyone needing a smaller size saw that can do a big job.

Great chainsaw for a great price
I love this chainsaw. It has the easy start system. The saw helped me cut up 4 downed trees in my yard. It is light and strong. I would recommend this chainsaw to anyone who needs a chainsaw for home use.

no strainger to Stihl, but first new one in some time
This is my third chainsaw, but first Stihl, I have used stihl owned by friends for years, and finally purchased one of my own. Love it. I mainly use this chainsaw for cutting small trees tree's on land, or to help out Nabors after a store, this happened the week after I purchased the saw, glad I had It on hand. easy starting, powerful, and efficient.

    Great all around Chain Saw
I have no complaints about performance or my expectations of this saw. Its powerful motor almost equals my old 029 Farm Boss and is a lot lighter weight. I found some reviews on the web that it could be hard to start. I also learned on the web (other reviewers) that starting procedure MUST be follow (in manual) that it is easier to flood than other chainsaws because of the high performance design. I follow starting procedure and have NO trouble starting saw cold. I am a stihl fan. Have back pack ... read more blower, tiller, 3 chainsaws etc... also have other brands and much prefer Stihl.

    Starting Procedure
It seems that some have trouble starting their MS250. The following is my procedure for starting mine: 1. Check fuel and bar oil levels 2. Set to full choke and pull crank 3 times ( always set tension to pull rope before pulling. Never pull from complete slack.) 3. Set to half choke and pull 3-5 times 4. Set to run and pull until engine starts. I have 100% success rate with this procedure. Never continue to pull start with full choke on, it will result in flooding the engine. This ... read more procedure ensures that there isn’t too much fuel intrduced into the combustion chamber.

    Exceptional saw
We have just had Michael leave us and we have trees down everywhere . I have burnt up 2 older saws (Craftsman ) they were not up to the cutting . Purchased the MS 250 from a local dealer and paid a higher price but the intro , demo and the setup for the saw was worth it cuts like a rabid beaver and my brush & tree pile are growing larger and I have been cutting trees 18 - 36 in . I was surprised they even had the saw due to the hurricane demand. I would highly recommend this saw

Light, manageable and easy to start
This is my first chainsaw. I admit I was intimidated by any chainsaw, but it became necessary to learn. The 180c with the easy start option has been great for this old woman! I can start it, lift it and handle the saw easily. This 16inch bar is large enough and power of the saw strong enough to take care of any task for me. I'm very pleased with my choice!

    Good Saw
I only rate this as good because I just got this saw. It operated great for the two 8" dia trees I had to cut down and then cut up, I was leary of the easy start and easy adjust features but it started easily ever time and held its adjustment during my cutting. Light weight and has plenty of power as long as you do not force it. This is my first Stihl and I needed a saw to do tree trimming and cutting down small trees. I am a 60 year old man.

    Great small chainsaw
After discussing my needs with the salesman at the Family Center, I opted for the MS 180 C-BE since most of the trees I would be removing were under 16-20 inches in diameter. I cut down over 30 hedge trees this winter. The saw worked great and I appreciated the light weight after a couple of hours of work each time out. Larger trees would take more horsepower but that is the trade off for using a smaller chainsaw which meets my needs more than 90 percent of the time. The easy start system worked ... read more great during sub-zero weather, surprised it started!
