So far solid tool for what I am using it for.
I have been let down in the past by a couple of other saws. After reading some reviews and the web sites information on usage and what type of cutting I may be doing I made the investment on this unit. Still in the break in phase of the timeline, following the extra steps of their oil and highest grade gas small mixes make sure I get off to the best start I can. Hope this one will last to make the investment worth the time and money. So far so good.

    Perfect for around the housew
Great little saw to have for around the house. It is the first saw i have ever owned, and ill tell you what. It has not failed me yet once. I've really, and i mean really pushed this little saw to the limit, and it has kept up the entire time.

    Great homeowners saw
Very reliable lightweight chainsaw. Cranks easily which is very important to an older person such as myself. Even though it is a lightweight saw designed for homeowners use, I have cut down some large trees with it and as long as you let it work and don’t try to force it , then it has plenty of power.

Starts Great, Runs Great, Cuts Great
I had an old 025 and needed a new saw. I bought the MS251 at the local Ace Hardware. Upon getting it home I had a hard time starting the saw and kept flooding it. I read the manual about starting and did exactly like it said and now it starts great, cold or hot. I use the saw to cut firewood for my wood boiler and it does a great job. I have used about 10 tanks of fuel so far and have had no problems. I do wish I would have bought a bigger saw as some of the wood I cut is pretty big for the ... read more MS251. Overall great saw once I followed the starting procedures in the manual.

    Wood Boss 251
So this is my first chainsaw. I've used them before but this is the first one I've bought. The saw worked great but the first day using it the chain came off the bar twice... The underside of the chain got burred up and now it wont slide through the bar. I'll have to take a metal file to it. I bought a STIHL replacement chain and the second day of using that it threw the chain off again. Same issue with the burrs on the underside of the chain. I was using the saw on light to medium sized tree ... read more limbs and the occasional tree trunk about 12 inches in diameter. I tightened the slack in the chain several times throughout using it. I bought a STIHL because everyone said they were the best but I didn't expect to have this issue.

Ms251 woodboss is a good saw, but I have noticed...
I bought this saw (ms251 withought easy start or easy chain tensioner) over a month ago. Cut down a dying/dead 10" apple tree days after purchasing. The job was a breeze (aside from the heat in NC), and the chain performed great. I personally have not had issues with starting the chainsaw. I believe many people who are experiencing these issues (admitted by some) are Not following the appropriate steps. If cold, move choke lever to cold choke. Pull the starter rope until it starts to fire, ... read more making sure you don't exceed 3-4 pulls as to not flood the engine. Next, move lever to the "starting choke" position, and pull starter rope to finish the startup. If warm, or if you've started it already that day, begin starting the saw in the "starting choke" position. Simple as that. My only issue with the saw, after cutting down a handful of trees, is that the chain is not being oiled sufficiently. Oil is coming out (as I removed the bar/chain and started the saw briefly to observe this), but not enough comes out to properly lubricate the chain. I have been manually lubricating the chain before, and sometimes, during a job. This seems to be a recurring issue amongst owners of this saw. It's important to have the chain lubricated so that the chain, bar, and clutch down overheat, and so the chain doesn't dull out prematurely. While this is unfortunate, and somewhat annoying, I still enjoy the saw, and am impressed with its performance.

    great saw
Love the saw, it starts easy and the vibration is way less than my last "cheep" saw. This saw is well worth the money and I really enjoy using it. My only regret is that I didn't buy the farm saw as I would like more power but this saw will get the job done, light and easy to handle for long periods. From now on I'll always own a Stihl saw

    Great saw!!!
I bought a piece of property that was logged. I had trees laying everywhere. So I new I would be cutting a lot more then the average home owner. I bought the 211 because of size and weight. It has done great. Over the winter I cut almost every day. I was cutting an average of 5.5 days out of every week from Nov. to March. This saw never let me down. The easy start is awesome. The easy chain tensioner is great and saves a lot of time. This saw is light weight and very easy to use.

The starting mechanism is an excellant improvement.
The chain saw gave me troubles as first due to a faulty carbuerator. The carbuerator was replaced under warranty and since then the chain saw has been trouble free. The ability to change chain blades without the need for tool is also a good improvement. Overall, I am very satisfied with the MS211C chain saw.

    A good saw
I really like not having to have any tools to remove the chain and bar. Also being able to tighten or loosen the chain is so simple with this saw. It can be used all day and not tire you out. I have been using chain saws for over 40 years and I like this saw

    Truly is an "Easy Start"
Fed up with my old chainsaw, that failed within hours of first using, despite my constant maintenance and adjustments, I decided that a Stihl was the direction to go, both from first hand experience with my neighbor's Stihl saw, AND from word of mouth. This saw has performed seamlessly, and it cut thru a 20" Live Oak tree like it was butter. It took less than an hour to buck the whole limb, which weighed several tons, and I didn't have to adjust the chain even once during it's break-in period.

    Great light use saw.
This is a perfect saw for small jobs around the home/farm. Enough power to cut through a lot of the fallen and dying small (~4") to medium (~10") trees on the property I manage without bogging down. Obviously this is not a saw for older trees, but I have used it in a pinch and it's held up fine. The only issues I have seen with these saws is the small plastic flag that locks the choke open can sometimes break if you put a lot of force on the choke lever and the chain dulls fairly quickly (I ... read more don't have the time to sharpen my chain after each use, although it's a practice I should make a habit.). I only found one other thing I dislike which is the 16" bar. For what I and most others use this saw for I think a 14" bar would be better. It's really not a big deal, but I will be purchasing a smaller bar and chain. Overall I have found this saw to be super helpful. It's priced right, doesn't weigh much, starts easily, cuts well, and lasts a long time unless it's abused.

    Worth it
Being a long time Stihl product user (as well as my main chainsaw) I wanted something smaller, lighter but still a real chainsaw. Went back and forth between the MS180, the MS180C, MS211 and the MS170. I picked the MS180 as I think it fits my bill perfectly. Can't see anything I'd change on the saw, can be a bit tricky to start but once you understand the saw it's not a problem at all. I have an old 012AV that just was to worn out and needed replacing, this saw walks circles around it. My big ... read more (bigger I should say) is my MS270... they both work great together. Cutting the bigger stuff with the MS270 and limbing/etc with the MS180. The MS180 is an all day saw, not so much with the MS270.

Not as great as I expected, but still a good saw
Main complaint is owner's manual stated saw was set up at the factory. Saw kept dying once engine was warm. Would crank right up and idle, but as soon as you make a cut and release the trigger saw would die. Solved this problem by increasing the idle speed, but not sure this is the best fix but it worked. Now the saw gets poor gas mileage, spend as much time refueling as cutting. Also seems a little underpowered and slow when I compare it to my poulan. Bought this stihl as a replacement for my ... read more poulan I was having trouble with expecting a " step up" in quality and performance. So far it's been more like a lateral move, not any better or worse. Not a bad saw, just not what I expected.

Good little saw for light tree work.
This saw has good power for a small package. The saw is light and easy to handle. Saw has the start assist so starting is a breeze. Also has the new chain tensioner that requires no tools, which is very nice. Have not had the saw long enough to know how dependable this feature will be but other Stihl products I have purchased have been extremely reliable. Price was right making this a very good bargain for the homeowner.

    Surprising durability
I'm a chainsaw carver and use my stihls all the time for hours on end. I actually got this saw as a gift, I liked its power and how light it was but I wasn't sure how long it would last because it was a homeowner saw, and considering I would be using it for at least 4 hours a day, and not once or twice a month for 20 minutes, I had my doubts about its longevity but after a few months of intense use and no issues it has become my favorite saw out of my six, it starts easily every time and runs ... read more like a champ. Great saw for the price, your not going to find a better saw on the market for the price. Nice simple great quality saw that anyone can start and use.

Tricks or hacks to get ur saw to peak performance quickly and easily
There is a break in time with any engine and with my saw it was about 5 hours total use.. If ur saw dies when u try to hit the throttle when u first get it set loosen the chain slightly let it run with the chain break on at half choke an extra 30 seconds or so por a few drops of oil along the chain at this point. Now try to run the saw run it for about 20 or 30 minutes at full throttle preferably through rounds of 12 to 14inches. Shut down let cool adjust chain run again for30 minutes doing this ... read more 5 to 10 times should break in the engine. For cutting through thicker harder stuff sharpen the chain at about 20 degree angle it makes for smother cutting easier cuts at the saw stays sharper longer... A 30 degree angle is great for stronger saws but it's just to great an angle for the power of this saw... I've used my saw to cut 36 inch maple rounds had to use a wedge to break the center 4 inches left. Happy cutting

    Great little saw
This is my first Stihl product. I the past I have owned a Poulon Pro and a Craftsman chainsaw . I purchased this saw after a storm broke my 45' tall elm tree in half. It isn't really the right saw for this job - I should have bought a bigger saw but had a budget to stay under. The saw started up easily each time. We ran four tanks of fuel through it and cut limbs that were over a foot in diameter. This little saw gave us no problems and seemed to punch well above its weight. The vibration ... read more dampening works well; I never felt the vibration "tingle" after running it for an extended amount of time. It didn't cut as fast as I liked and it bogged down at times, but if I just let the saw work, it would get though the toughest, thickest logs we had.
