    excellent saw
I bought this saw to take with me last second (9pm at the local farm store) to clear a branch from a friends yard that had killed her power 60 miles north of me. ive used many chain saws having grown up on a farm in the woods of southern Indiana with wood heat and didnt expect much more then a branch cutter from this due to size and had planned to leave it with her when i had finished. well it was a limb not a branch, 36' in diameter and 60' long, half a giant white oak. i would have never put ... read more this saw through what i did and expect it to last but after a full day of cutting and every trick in the book this little saw had the job done, and still runs! this was an extraordinary situation and i would never encourage anyone to use this saw for a job like that however i was so impressed i had to share. if you know what your doing this saw will out pace cheep saws almost twice its size and preform more reliable then a saw that costs twice as much used by someone inexperienced in tree cutting. Bottom line, i kept the saw. This saw has made me a stihl owner for life.

    Very Good Saw
I have had several chainsaws from other brands but this is the best saw that I have owned. I used to buy 18" but this 16" is better and more versatile. Glad I finally bought a Stihl!

Great saw EZ Start is not so easy.
I purchased this saw 2 years ago for small clean-up jobs. The power and quick chain adjustment tool are awesome. The EZ start on the other hand is a pain. I have had to replace my pull cord due to people using the saw and pulling on it like a normal pull string. The amount of force needed to "wind" the ez start system IMO is not much less than it would take to pull this small saw in the first place. Maybe this would be good for someone very elderly. My 70 year old father used this saw last week ... read more and wanted to throw it away because he was not used to the ez start system. Everything else about this saw is awesome.

    Suspension saves arthritic hands.
Upon purchase of this saw, I started to acquire the wood needed to heat my home for this winter. I was fortunate to have several large oak trees that had expired and were well seasoned for use this year. AS YOU KNOW, OAK IS A HARD WOOD AND DENSE BY NATURE. MY NEW SAW WAS UP TO THE CHALLENGE AND PROVIDED EXCELLENT SERVICE AS I CUT MULTIPLE CHORDS. I have since burned about twenty tanks of gas and have not encountered any problems. Best saw I have used in twenty plus years of heating my home with ... read more wood. I am an experienced user and find this product more than adequate. My only concern is will my health allow me to keep up with this saw, LOL

Easy Starting, Nice Power, Good Balance, Relatively Light
I'm on tank 3 and so far and I've been pretty careful during the initial break in but the saw has been as advertised. The easy start feature is nice when you get use to it and the saw does a good job trimming and cutting through moderate sized timber. The tool-less quick chain tensioner is a plus as well. I looked at several competitor saws and seriously at one other major brand. The Stihl reliability, durability, service reputation and the 211s features were the final determining factor. This ... read more saw is a nice light/medium duty small saw and I'd recommend it as a home owner or ranch hand saw

Fantastic saw, very easy to start, great power, easy to handle.
Just bought my 251 C-BE from Walla Walla Saw and Knife today. They walked me through the safety features of the saw and then went through the starting procedure very thoroughly. Got the saw home, fired up on the 2nd pull (first prime the carb, then 1 pull with full choke, then 1 pull on the start position). I have past shoulder injuries and pulling the start on this saw could not be easier. Pull about 1/4 of the way out and the inertia does the rest. This feature is so worth the slight amount of ... read more extra money! I let the saw warm up per the owners manual and went to work. This saw has LOTS of power. If you need more power than this, you are probably a pro logger. Very high build quality. Chain has not stretched yet and is still sharp. I really cannot say enough positive about this high-tech and beautiful saw. If you are thinking about an easy to start and handle saw at a very reasonable price, you won't go wrong purchasing this saw. I fully expect that this is the last chain saw I will ever have to buy. Thank you, Stihl, for such a quality product!

Every bit as good as the advertisement. Easiest starting chainsaw I've every used...and that includes more than six decades of chainsaw use.

    Good, reliable chainsaw.
I bought this saw because I had been through four "cheap" saws over the past 10 years. I have a wooded lot and often need to bring down dead trees and cut firewood. It has done the job with ease. Plenty of power. I particularly like the anti vibration, EZ start, and chain tensioning features. Those are definitely worth the investment. No complaints whatsoever.

    Amazing saw for the price
Got this saw when a buddy of mine had 4 trees blow down in his yard. Got to his house with a husquvarna and that was a joke. Went to the Stihl dealer told the salesman what I was doing and he said this saw here is the one for you and man was he right. Im only 22 years old but this saw is light and the vibration control system it has is amazing. My buddies dad has this same saw and his is 5 years old and you can tell a huge difference in the vibration in the saw after running it for 30 mins. My ... read more buddy and I cut those trees up in 2 evenings after work and loaded up a 16 ft long 6 ft wide trailer with wood 4 times. The saw performed flawlessly. The bad thing is it burns fuel like crazy. I wish Stihl had put a bigger tank on this saw. Also if you plan on cutting up more than one mature hardwood tree definitely buy more chains it will make life easier in the long run. I could go on about this saw all day. Overall just an amazing saw and it cannot be beat by any other brand.

    Another Quality Stihl Product
I work for a licensed Stihl dealer in Ottawa lake Michigan. I see the high quality and great value of many Stihl products on a daily basis. Previously I worked for a landscape company experiencing many tools in the field and now in the shop. Picked up this saw for work around home and small side jobs. have put 4-5 tanks of fuel through the saw. Running Moto-Mix, Wood cutter bar oil, 18" bar with a full chisel chain this saw is a running sun of a gun. been very impressed with the weight to power ... read more ratio of the saw thus far. Keep a sharp full chisel chain on the saw and it will cut through most small timber in the Ohio/Michigan area with ease. only complaint is the saw has a single bar nut so keep a scwrench handy and check that the bar nut is tight regularly. Haven't had any issues thus far just an precaution I deemed necessary since purchase.

    Excellent saw for the price
I have a farm and wanted a saw that is light to use for trimming back trees along fence rows. This saw fits this need like a well tailored suit. I use ethanol free 89 octane gas with Stihl ultra 2 cycle oil and Sea Foam. It starts great and has plenty of power. Easy on gas. Some of the bad reviews on this saw I think are operator error such as cheap, dirty, or old gas.If you use cheap gas you need to use a good additive to keep gas from going bad. Some are do to exceeded expectations of what the ... read more saw was designed for like, you want a light saw with big fuel capacity, but more gas adds more weight or your cutting trees that you need a bigger saw for. Another issue is not following the starting procedure. I also have a outdoor wood burner. In 2014 I bought a Stihl ms 311 it's been an excellent saw also.

Easy start and a dream to use.
I have owned Stihl chain saws for over 20 year and have a problem with my upper back and could not pull start my older chain saws both Stihl and others. After searching online I came across the MS 180 C-BE 16. So I went to Robinson Hardware in Guilderland NY. The sales person was great and we went over the easy start saws that were available and I dry started this saw. It was an answer to my dream of having a chain saw I could start with out hurting my back. After purchase we went out and ... read more started my new saw. If you can pick up a cold drink 3 times it starts. The next day I headed into the woods and ran the saw for about 4 hours and it ran very well and after it warmed up it was a 1 pull wonder.

Nice lightweight unit, easy to start and goes through wood easily
I've bought many Stihl products, and wanted a chain saw that I could start without assistance. I am woman that could use a little more upper body strength. I researched to find a chain saw that would accommodate the rural homeowner, one that would be lightweight, easy to start and had an excellent reputation and repair record. This particular unit came up as a candidate. Going through the reviews, I pulled the trigger and purchased this unit. The sales staff tested the equipment, and gave me a ... read more demo of how to start, operate, and do adjustments when necessary. When I got home, I looked through the manual, then went outside and started it up (started up immediately). The saw went through a 12 inch pine trunk like butter. I then used it to cut up some white oak and various wood logs. The saw never felt too heavy, and was easy to maneuver. This machine cuts through wood very easily, and I look forward to using it year round for landscaping maintenance and storm clean up.

Light on power = good on fuel
Overall, this is an underpowered saw that sips on fuel. The saw is light and easy to handle and great for trimming and small jobs. You are not going to cut a winter’s worth of wood with this saw even though it comes with a 16" bar. I have not had any problems starting the saw, a few pulls, even if it is cold, and it fires right up. I do question the oiling dependability, especially in colder weather. The oil reservoir is inconsistently at different levels between fueling up. I will be taking ... read more this back in to see if it is a mechanical issue. The toolless features on this saw are awesome. The anti vibration system on this saw with the light weight will let you work all day, which you may need since you will have to work twice as long to get any amount of work done on bigger projects. I do recomend this product since it is is a great saw for light work. Do not buy if you heat your home with wood or have large jobs to do around your home.

    Worth it
Being a long time Stihl product user (as well as my main chainsaw) I wanted something smaller, lighter but still a real chainsaw. Went back and forth between the MS180, the MS180C, MS211 and the MS170. I picked the MS180 as I think it fits my bill perfectly. Can't see anything I'd change on the saw, can be a bit tricky to start but once you understand the saw it's not a problem at all. I have an old 012AV that just was to worn out and needed replacing, this saw walks circles around it. My big ... read more (bigger I should say) is my MS270... they both work great together. Cutting the bigger stuff with the MS270 and limbing/etc with the MS180. The MS180 is an all day saw, not so much with the MS270.

    Great chainsaw, great value
I purchased the chainsaw at my neighborhood ACE hardware store, which is also a licensed Stihl dealer and repair shop. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful, I purchased a demo saw which probably had only a few minutes of run time on it; received a good discount and still got the warranty. The saw makes quick work of tree limbs and firewood, I've only pushed it up to about 9" limbs but still saws through them quickly. Starts fine when I follow the starting directions and I use premixed fuel&oil ... read more which is more expensive than mixing pump gas and oil, but I think it runs better and has a longer shelf life. Time will tell re durability but so far, very happy with the saw.

    Awesome little saw!
I bought a MS180 16" bar used from a friend. Bought a few chains for it, a couple gallons of premixed fuel, and went to town on a downed tree. Worked flawless! I got down to the 26" trunk and with the right finesse this saw will run right through it like a knife through room temperature butter! Beat out my friends bigger other name brand 18" chainsaw. I use it mainly to carve sculptures with. With it being so light weight it doesn't fatigue you like other saws. It is powerful enough to cut the ... read more occasional big tree, yet nimble enough to carve with. Will never buy another brand of saw. Just keep the chain sharp. If you can't sharpen buy a bigger saw that's more forgiving of bad file jobs.
