It's more than a back up saw!
I'm in the firewood business. A couple of months ago I got to thinking what if my saw breaks down. I decided that I needed a backup saw. So I purchased the ms271 Farm Boss. After I got it to the field I tried it out. I could tell immediately that this saw was not going to be second to any saw. I've used it as my primary saw ever since day one. Its got plenty of power. The weight isn't too bad. Starts easy everytime. I would buy another one like it without hesitation. Two thumbs up from the ... read more great state of Texas!

    Powerful Saw!
Having been around chainsaws a good portion of my life, some good, some not.. I must say the Stihl Farm Boss is the most powerful chainsaw I’ve ever used/owned. Easy to start and operate. It’s a little heavier than an MS170, but the extra weight is due to the bigger engine. I can cut 24” tree limbs like butter. The dealer recommended the 18” bar as the optimal power to bar ratio for this saw and he was right! I now have use the MS 170 for a limber saw and small branches and bring the Farm Boss ... read more when I need to cut drop bigger trees or limbs. Well worth the money!

Takes on the tough job with ease
Christmas present from my wife who was nervous about getting the right saw. I fired it up the next day and let it warm up a bit and it idled perfectly. Took it out where I had an oak that I gave up on with my OLD 16" saw. This 20 incher made me simile as a stream of chips flew out. It was easily walking through a 20+ inch log with easy. Whacked out about 6 or 7 slabs in no time. This was "fun work" with this saw. She got me the right saw. I will enjoy using it I am sure

    Wow!, What a great saw!
I recently bought a MS 391 chain saw. This was after my 42 year old Stihl saw completely died. The 391 is a fabulous piece of equipment! It came with a 28" bar which I needed for cutting juniper on my property. It cut even the big trees with ease. One of the first things that jumped out to me was the run time of the saw. One tank of gas would last about 2and1/2 times as that of my old saw. The 28" bar allowed me to reach in and cut the trunks of the trees with ease. The weight of the saw is ... read more reasonable, this being said, I can cut for an extended period of time and not have my back hurt as was the case with my old saw. I should have bought a new saw sooner!

Great saw, looking forward to using it for years to come.
I had never used a Stihl chainsaw before even though i have used saws for over 30 years. I have mostly used another brand before this that was a pro level saw, really heavy and hard to crank. This saw is really close to the performance of that saw and in a much lighter package. I've never used a saw of this size range that would run this long on a tank of fuel. I've so far in the first couple weeks cut up 3 big Hickory trees, 2 big white oaks, 1 large Pine and a couple junk trees that i'm not ... read more sure what they are. It runs great, I feel it's at or just below the bottom level of the pro saws.

Powerful saw, great weight to horsepower ratio and bullett proof design.
I bought this saw to be my mid sized saw as I have a 291 with an 18" bar for small jobs and a Magnum 441 with a 28" bar for larger jobs. Being that I burn wood year round for our house and cabin I needed a mid sized saw for medium sized jobs/trees. This saw is amazing when equipped with an 18" bar and a rapid cut chain, it never bigs down, has a high chain speed, and pulls through any type of hard wood with ease, Oak, Hickory, Maple, Walunt, Ash, Cherry and rips through soft wood like butter. I ... read more have used this saw for 8 hours a day 4-5 days a week and it continues to amaze me with its amazing power to weight. You will not regret this saw as it is a great vallue and is the ideal all around "go to saw".

    Superb for my specific needs!
My Stihl MS201-C was a purchase I researched for some time. Being a relatively new model, there were not many reviews to help me in the decision process and those I did read were not all super but detailed enough that I could tell those who felt the 201-C didn't meet their expectations were really used to or comparing to a previously owned model. My requirements were that the chainsaw would be easy to start (Easy2Start System), rugged yet light, dependable, and manageable maintenance needs. The ... read more additional (Anti-Vibration) feature really does make this saw a pleasure to use as it minimizes the fatigue brought on by muscles and bones being stressed. Think smooth operation for the hands, arms and shoulders. The other features (Read the Manual) were additional bonuses. I never thought I would find a chainsaw that made cutting cedar almost fun but I do enjoy the work more now with this saw. I do clearing of property and trimming every week and this saw fits my needs.

Excellent power for a light weight saw
I use this saw regularly for clearing blow downs on the hiking trails where I might be carry the saw and all my other gear five to ten miles. I too also own a MS-261 for this purpose and carry it when I know there will be lots of bigger trees. The 201 cuts great as long as the chain is very sharp. The small teeth do dull much faster than the teeth on the larger saws. I always carry two extra chains for this sort of work so dulling is not an issue in the field. In addition to be lightweight ... read more and powerful for its size, it is also very quiet and vibration free. This is a great benefit to those of us (like myself) who do not saw on a daily basis. There is one major drawback to this saw. If you get the bar and chain stuck in a tree (this is always a concern when clearing blow downs that are loaded in every direction) the bar and chain cannot be removed without first removing the external clutch mechanism. This requires removing the spark plug, immobilizing the piston, and then unscrewing the clutch. The MS-261 has an internal clutch so it is not an issue on my other saw. I would recommend this saw without reservation except for this one concern.

Great ground saw, love the easy start, mechanical fuel pump features. After cutting for a few hours the noticeable light weight is really appreciated
Great ground saw, it does on the ground what the MS 201 T does up on the tree. I Set this saw up with a 14" Rollomatic E Light Bar and a Oilomatic Stihl Picco Super PS yellow chain. Cuts through Oak and Madrone like Butter. Still in the break in period so the saws power will continue to grow...... This little baby is pricey, but, Stihl knows what they got in this get what you pay for with a "Made in Germany" saw.

    Solid firewood saw
Bought this saw about a month ago and so far I’m very pleased. I only use it for cutting wood that is already down and I have been pleasantly surprised with this saw’s performance. It runs much smoother than the 290 or 038 super that I am used to using. The power isn’t that of the 038 but for the weight of the saw I have no complaints. There is no oil adjustment but I found that keeping the oiler clean and using Stihl bar oil provides adequate oiling. About 4 cords of hickory cut without a ... read more hiccup. I would definitely recommend this saw to a land owner using the saw to clear downed trees or to cut firewood.

All the power you will need !!!
I have a small farm in NY and burn approximately 25 to 30 face cords a year. I bought a ms 291 chain saw and just could not believe the power of this saw. my old STIHL 026 couldn't come close to the power of this ms 291. I highly recommend this saw to anyone who burns wood or has a small to mid size farm. I know this saw will make life a little easier as it has for me in the year I have owned it.

This is our go to saw
This is our second MS-291.The original is 5 years old and has been our go to saw. We needed another saw and the choice was obvious. One stays at the farm and another in the garage. Living in the woods having a dependable saw is not a luxury it is a necessity. We trust our Stihl whether it`s saving us from a blown down tree ,a rotten log or to cut a monster oak off of our mother in laws roof. Firewood cutting is just another task this saw excels at.

Excellent tool, light weight, runs strong.
I purchased this saw for personal use around small farm for pruning and cutting small firewood. I have two other larger saws sporting 16 and 20 inch bars that work well but are just too heavy for small work. This saw out runs them, strong acceleration, very good lube system, and easy to use oil and fuel filler caps. I would definitely recommend this saw for anyone needing easy start, reliability, and ease of use. Lightest saw I have and packs a lot of power.

    Works like a champ
This chainsaw is great for what I bought it for. I needed a small lightweight chainsaw to take care of some large shrubs and some small trees on my property. It starts up without any problems and has yet to give me an issue after about 8 straight hours of usage. I even tacked a VERY large tree without having to borrow my neighbors larger chainsaw but would not recommend this one for larger trees as it took quite a bit of extra effort. Overall I'm satisfied with the fit, finish, and power of this saw.

    Better than I expected
We prune a little over 1,500 fruit trees a year so I wanted a light saw. So I forked over almost as much money as I did for my MS261 and got a saw that appears to be slightly bigger and heavier than the toy saw my friend's 3 year old plays with. It took me about 2 cuts before I completely realized that this was the exact perfect saw for me with the quality of all stihl products. It really does cut with the precision of a hand saw. The engine runs smooth at all rpm, excellent on fuel, and uses ... read more very little bar oil. This combined with the low emission engine makes for a clean saw to run. Oh yeah, let's talk about the weight or lack thereof. That's why this saw costs what it does (you can buy 3 Ms170 for what this cost) but you get what you pay for. It is so light, it feels like it's going to float off into the atmosphere. It's a great saw that I had high hopes for and exceeded all expectations.

    Very good saw
This saw (ms311) seems to be a really good saw. I have owned a multitude of stihl saws over the years and I haven’t been unhappy with any of them. The 311 has a lot of great features like a decompression valve for easy starting. It has an anti vibration feature which is nice if you’re cutting a lot of wood. I wanted a saw that had lots of power and this saw seems to have that. There are a few cons that I’ve noticed. The throttle response is kind of lacking. To be honest I think between all the ... read more emmision stuff and the constricted muffler it kills a lot of power and the main reason the throttle response isn’t quite as crisp as my older saws. The other draw back I found was the weight of the saw. Obviously when you buy a big saw like this it’s not gonna be light but if you carry this saw around all day, you will feel it. Other than that I would say that this is a great saw for a home owner that needs a power. I would recommend it.

This product is very user friendly.
I purchased several acres of heavily wooded property in Arkansas and I was in need of a saw that I could rely on to get the job done. Of course I thought of STIHL as I have always heard they were great saws. I went to my local dealer who was very helpful and recommended the MS 311 after I explained my situation. I have operated many different chainsaws in my day and none of them can hold a candle to this saw. The performance of this saw is excellent. The saw starts easily and runs perfectly from ... read more the second its started, seems like it doesn't even need to warm up. So far I have cut down about an acres worth of trees most of them being old cedar and haven't had a single issue with the saw. The saw does have some weight to it but I think thats to be expected with a little bigger saw. The power is excellent and with the ⅜" chain makes short work of anything in its way.

All the power I will ever need
I bought this saw after getting fed up with cheap under powered big box store saws. I heat primarily with wood here in north east Ohio. I use about 4-5 cord a year. I recently had the pleasure of dropping a huge 40+ inch oak, now I know sthil recommens a 20 inch bar on this saw but they also recommend the same bar on one of their saws with .7 less hp. With that being said I purchased a 24 inch bar with full comp full square chisel chain and it has no problems. I also purchased full skip chain ... read more and this thing really flys. The saw is a little heavy but it is not a problem for me. I will soon be purchasing a smaller saw for cutting branches and in tree work. Thanks sthil, you make the task of keeping my family warm easier and actually fun.
