    Excellent saw
I have had 2 saws in past, a stihl and another top brand. Both were great, but the stihl outcut the other. This stihl takes a few more pulls for the first start than the first one (farm boss, in late 70s) but I am using it at 8 to 10 thousand feet elevation. People who have trouble starting .....try ethanol free gas. It makes a big difference. 2 strokes don't like ethanol. Easy to maintain, a bit heavy... but I am 150 lb and 70 years old. Still lays the wood down faster than the grandkids can carry it away.

    Excellent Chainsaw!
I bought this chainsaw instead of hiring a contractor to remove a 100 foot fallen red oak after hurricane Irma. I have done all the work myself with just this chainsaw and a splitting axe. The saw has been extremely reliable and I’m sawing through the large logs with no problem. I had zero experience with a chainsaw and was nervous to do this, but it has been very easy! I did buy the protective chaps and watched the STIHL safety videos to be safe and found them very helpful. I have sawed for ... read more several hours at a time with it and never feel any fatigue as there is very little vibration. I’m very glad I spent extra to get this vs going with a cheap chainsaw!

    Best chainsaw i've ever owned
I have lived in Northern Michigan for 26 years. Moved finally to all wood heat. Needed a saw that was easy to start, handled easy, had power to cut through 2 foot thick oak and maple, didnt kill me on gas, was dependable and cost effective. Went to my local Stihl dealer McLeans ACE Hardware..and the MS 271 farm boss was recommended to me. Now i have owned Craftsman, Poulon, Mchulha, Homelite, and Echo saws over the years. None lasted all were a disappointment. The Stihl 271 though...wow! Best ... read more saw i ever owned! Power, dependable, efficient, easy, cut 50 cord like butter! Thank you Stihl and thank you McLeans for convincing me to buy my first Stihl product.

Powerful, Reliable & Easy to Run
I have run this saw for 5-7 hours nearly non-stop on a few dozen days since purchase. After some irritating issues starting cold on the first few tanks of fuel during break-in it now fires easily and has since run flawlessly. Unlike other saws I have owned/used it does not throw nearly as much bar oil. While it does run a bit hot and I make a point of clearing the oil inlet on the bar it seems to be by design. I went with an 18" bar to keep the torque up and think it is a good fit for the motor. ... read more Top marks to the MS291 for someone who wants to run a saw for large firewood cuts and heavy clearing with virtually zero maintenance.

    Recommend Stihl
I have a number of Stihl products...ie: Blower, Brush Cutter, MS 261 and my newest, MS 291. I had an MS 290 that I used without problem for many years and loved it. The MS 291 is superior to other chainsaws I have had. The power is excellent and it maintains it throughout the cut. It has already made some hard and physically taxing job much easier and overall less strenuous.

    Work horse
I have used this saw extensively for the past 6 months. I literally rand the main housing of the saw over with a full sized truck (oops). All it did was barely crack the plastic, and it fired right up. The only real issue i have had with this saw is using the aggressive chain. It doesnt want to stay tight for some reason. Standard chain cuts like a dream though. I am running a 18 in bar, because i feel that it is balanced better this way.

Never fails, no trouble starting and running for extended periods of time.
Best saw on the market "Bar" none. Years ago after making a major purchase of several saws and brush cutters Stihl came to our workplace, FOC, and provided a safety and cutting demonstration. We all thought we knew everything there was to know. How wrong were we. The info they provided we still use every time we use one of their products. Stihl's safety PPE is above standard as well. Helmets, chaps, cutting pants and shirts are a must for our operators and have in fact saved staff from serious ... read more injury. I cant say enough good things about your products.

    Absolutely awesome!!!
This little saw cuts faster and smoother than any saw in it's class. It will out cut many bigger saws and it is a dream to use. I have five of these saws, three top handle and two back handle. We use them trimming apples and cherries.

    Sweet saw for pruning trees.
I own 3 other Stihl chainsaws. They all serve a purpose, but I really wanted a lightweight saw running a thin kerf chain for fine pruning, especially on fruit trees. I have owned a couple of orchards, and found they made much finer pruning cuts than any other chainsaws. This saw fits the bill perfectly! The cuts are very smooth and even, they look as good as if they were done with a hand saw. The saw is exceptionally light and well balanced. The motor has sufficient power for the fine cuts I ... read more make, but I thought it would run with a few more RPM's. (I am going to have the dealer double check the settings after I have some more hours on the saw). While I love the saw and highly recommend it, I do think it is over priced.

    Quality built Product
I am comparing this product to a 35 year old Pro Mac 700, so this may or may not be a fair comparison. A little disappointed in the power for a larger saw, had the 25" bar and chain installed at the dealer before purchase. Once its running, its a smooth cutting saw. Have run several tanks of gas thru it now, and am a little surprised at how finicky is is to start, especially after a warm refuel. Like the one quarter turn caps on the fuel tank and the oil tank, and the foot hole on the rear handle.

This makes retiring my old saw easy very pleased with my purchase
Typical of all Stijl products they just run and so reliable Makes the work fun and quick Over all if you want a saw that you can pick up for a day of cutting or a hour or minutes get this saw as I find excuses to use it!

The MS 391 is the perfect saw for me.
I purchased this saw new in August 2014. It replaced a tired saw that I have had since the early 90's. It will be used primarily for firewood. I cut mostly Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir. This saw is a beast. I run a full skip chain on the 25" bar. I can fill it up with fuel, drop a tree, and cut enough 15" long rounds to fill the 8' bed of my F-250...and still have about half a tank of fuel. It starts easy, cuts fast, and is a pleasure to run. I think this is the perfect saw for me.

    Stihl Going Strong!!
I purchased my MS310 (now 311) ten years ago to cut my own firewood for heat. She has been dropped & pinched numerous times and still runs great. The only issue I had was a cracked fuel line due to ethanol gas. I primarily run a 20" 3/8-.050 bar & chain, but I have run a 25" combo on several occasions. Once the tree is down, I often use this same saw to limb it. It has great power and is still fairly light. If you want to buy ONE saw that does it all, then the MS311 is a great choice, in my opinion.

    Great saw
I bought this saw to do storm damage clean up around Iowa. I've used it in the aftermath of 5 storms and the saw is great. I got the 25" bar and the saw has the power to cut full length. This saw is heavy but not against peer saws. This is one of two I use on such jobs. The other is a Stihl 211 I use for limbing. Much lighter and easier to handle for the small stuff. I would buy this saw again.

This saw is very dependable and is a workhorse.
I have purchased two MS-311's by Stihl, and I have nothing but good to say about them. I recommend this product to everyone I associate with. When it comes to chainsaws, Stihl is, by far, the best saw I ever used. The company seems concerned about user safety, and have done good things to reduce kickback.

    Lightweight Powerhouse - Firewood Ferrari
When I realized Stihl made a rear handle version of the time proven Arborist choice 201 C-T top handle saw, I had to get it. STARTS VERY EASILY and 16" bar melts through all the standing dead Ash around here. Only negative was POOR BAR/CHAIN LUBRICATION. A Machinist by trade, I checked it out with bluing to discover the oil hole in bar did not line up with oil channel in saw.(only 1/3 open!) AND the black rubber plug seated proud of the housing preventing upper rear "wing" of the bar from ... read more mating flush with the oil channel. Oily razor blade sliced it flush (removed 1/32"). An air pencil with a 1/16dia. end mill widened the channel a bit and ovaled the bar oil hole to correct this. I use new SAE 30 weight (as used for decades) and chain stays properly lubed and dust does not plug up the flow. I set Oil adjustment to max and now chain is always wet. Oil is inexpensive. Must have been some kind of design tolerance issue. I ordered the saw Nov.2015 FYI. That was disappointing but I've seen that sort of thing many times over the years with high end tools I tend to buy. This is a PERFECT saw for a ground crew or pulpwood cutting(if still done by humans!) all day long I think. Very smooth power with little vibration. Overall I'm happy with this saw. Look forward to decades of use.

    Great lightweight saw
This is a great power to weight ratio saw. The M-tronic works much better than expected. I've buried the bar in a huge ash and it buzzed right through it. The saw is actually a pleasure to cut with and is a great compliment to my MS 270. It is expensive, but the power to weight ratio is unrivaled.

    Superb for my specific needs!
My Stihl MS201-C was a purchase I researched for some time. Being a relatively new model, there were not many reviews to help me in the decision process and those I did read were not all super but detailed enough that I could tell those who felt the 201-C didn't meet their expectations were really used to or comparing to a previously owned model. My requirements were that the chainsaw would be easy to start (Easy2Start System), rugged yet light, dependable, and manageable maintenance needs. The ... read more additional (Anti-Vibration) feature really does make this saw a pleasure to use as it minimizes the fatigue brought on by muscles and bones being stressed. Think smooth operation for the hands, arms and shoulders. The other features (Read the Manual) were additional bonuses. I never thought I would find a chainsaw that made cutting cedar almost fun but I do enjoy the work more now with this saw. I do clearing of property and trimming every week and this saw fits my needs.
