This is one get it done machine.
This 271 Farm Boss kicksbottom. Sorry if you cant use my review but it does kick bottom, be proud Stihl you produced a modern tool worthy of you name. The plastic housings......ask me next year about them, I will tell you how they held up. I am an Aviation, Jet Turbine Mechanic...I am hard to please and I hold no quarter in telling you exactly how I feel about your product. I have owned some of your failures....now I own a chainsaw that seems, so far, to hold to your claims of performance. I ... read more have recently purchased one of your FS 38 weed trimmers.....the power to weight ratio is superb.....let ya know what i think of it next year.

    All around superior chainsaw
This chainsaw has been great. Takes very little effort to start and once it's running look out, you'll want to find more items to cut. The weight is evenly distributed and doesn't create fatigue like some heavier units do. Cutting though some solid maples and oaks was like cutting through butter. Can't wait to use again. I highly recommend this unit if you're looking for something durable and reliable.

If needed to, I'd buy again.
But I won't. This saw is far and away the easiest and most dependable chainsaw I've ever owned. At the moment I own one electric, one cordless and three gas saws, the newly purchased Stihl the only Stihl. The smaller non-gas saws are greatest for limbing, and cutting limbs into usable firewood (less carbon footprint). However, the Stihl is the best at leveling stumps so they can be ground down and to cut timber into usable pieces. I only wish I'd purchased this Stihl long ago!

Excellent tool, light weight, runs strong.
I purchased this saw for personal use around small farm for pruning and cutting small firewood. I have two other larger saws sporting 16 and 20 inch bars that work well but are just too heavy for small work. This saw out runs them, strong acceleration, very good lube system, and easy to use oil and fuel filler caps. I would definitely recommend this saw for anyone needing easy start, reliability, and ease of use. Lightest saw I have and packs a lot of power.

    Perfect for clearing brush
I was tired of holding and maneuvering a 18" chain saw in thick brush for hours at a time. This saw looks like a toy but works like a pro. It cuts right through 3" diameter Yaupon Holly in seconds. I love how easy it is to remove the oil and gas caps.Only complaint is that it wont engage the chain if anything (even a small stick) is touching it. A safety feature???

    As light as a feather
This little saw does not have GREAT power, but it does have GOOD power. I have only used it three times so far, @2-3 hours each time, and it CAN'T wear me out. My MS 270 Farm Boss does that easily as I'm not a very big guy, but not this one! Need to cut alot of limbs? This little guy won't wear you down like the big boys do. Expensive: yes, but the light weight and easy starting (as with most Stihls) makes up for it.

    Perfect for its use
Wanted a light saw for trimming and limbing. Purchased with 14inch bar an thin chain. PERFECT ! Plenty of power , easy to use, light an maneuverable. Actually use it to cut more than I thought. Goes through 6-8 inch oak no problems. This my third stihl saw , now I have a small medium an large. Would recommend stihl saws to anyone . Dealer network a big plus , easy to get parts an service!!

    Perfect for around my land.
I have been clearing trails and thinning out areas throughout my property to make it accessible for my kids to enjoy. I have an MS 311 which is great for felling but gets heavy when walking through the woods and up and down steep grades cutting as I go. This saw has worked great for everything I have needed it for thus far and is light and easy to use. I'm very impressed.

    What a machine
This is my first STIHL. What a saw. Extremely reliable, easy to start and cuts like butter.

    Strong engine, handles great
I've cut through 6 cords of wood so far with the 391 and love the power! I have a 25" bar and have cut through pine logs thicker in diameter and it never bogged down. Plus the weight of the saw isn't overbearing. My back slightly aches after cutting through a cord, but I've found that the weight of the saw helps with cutting through the logs. The 25" bar is a great length for being able to de-limb without having to bend down.

    awsome saw
I have 2 other saws and they are stihl 026, 171 . i needed a saw with a 20" bar for some big tree's. I was wanting to get the 311 but everyone was out of them. so the salesman , said the 391 was the next best choice. boy was he right ,this thing goes through some wood!!!! my nickname for the saw is "wood hog"

    great saw for the money
Every thing I have looked for in a saw I personally have had just about every brand saw that's out there but this is definitely the saw for me.I should have went with stihl a long time ago. no it's not as powerful as a 460 or 660 but it gets the job done with a 20" bar and a full skip chain she cuts pretty quick can't hardly bogg it out

    Lightweight Powerhouse - Firewood Ferrari
When I realized Stihl made a rear handle version of the time proven Arborist choice 201 C-T top handle saw, I had to get it. STARTS VERY EASILY and 16" bar melts through all the standing dead Ash around here. Only negative was POOR BAR/CHAIN LUBRICATION. A Machinist by trade, I checked it out with bluing to discover the oil hole in bar did not line up with oil channel in saw.(only 1/3 open!) AND the black rubber plug seated proud of the housing preventing upper rear "wing" of the bar from ... read more mating flush with the oil channel. Oily razor blade sliced it flush (removed 1/32"). An air pencil with a 1/16dia. end mill widened the channel a bit and ovaled the bar oil hole to correct this. I use new SAE 30 weight (as used for decades) and chain stays properly lubed and dust does not plug up the flow. I set Oil adjustment to max and now chain is always wet. Oil is inexpensive. Must have been some kind of design tolerance issue. I ordered the saw Nov.2015 FYI. That was disappointing but I've seen that sort of thing many times over the years with high end tools I tend to buy. This is a PERFECT saw for a ground crew or pulpwood cutting(if still done by humans!) all day long I think. Very smooth power with little vibration. Overall I'm happy with this saw. Look forward to decades of use.

    Superb for my specific needs!
My Stihl MS201-C was a purchase I researched for some time. Being a relatively new model, there were not many reviews to help me in the decision process and those I did read were not all super but detailed enough that I could tell those who felt the 201-C didn't meet their expectations were really used to or comparing to a previously owned model. My requirements were that the chainsaw would be easy to start (Easy2Start System), rugged yet light, dependable, and manageable maintenance needs. The ... read more additional (Anti-Vibration) feature really does make this saw a pleasure to use as it minimizes the fatigue brought on by muscles and bones being stressed. Think smooth operation for the hands, arms and shoulders. The other features (Read the Manual) were additional bonuses. I never thought I would find a chainsaw that made cutting cedar almost fun but I do enjoy the work more now with this saw. I do clearing of property and trimming every week and this saw fits my needs.

    The best of the best
There are certain things in life you should never skimp on, chainsaws are one of them. When you need it, you need it to perform well every time. Stihl is the bar that all other saws are measured by, don't settle for second best. This saw is exactly what I was looking for and I am happy with my purchase.

The only saw you'll ever need!
I purchased the MS291 about 4 months ago. I took down about 10 hardwoods for a friend the morning a bought it. Wow, did I have a smile on my face! Could not get over how fast the cut rate was the the yellow chain. On Jan. 22, tornadoes devastated parts of our city. The following Sat. I went out with a clean up crew and ran 7 tanks of gas through it! I was worn out but the MS291 never got tired. I've cut a lot of trees over the last 15 plus years with a Different brand saw, but after using my ... read more first Stihl saw I will never use anything else!

This machine has everything you can ask for, power, balance, fuel efficient...
WHAT A BEAST...had a tree go down in a recent storm,"65' silver maple"removal estimate out of this world!!! Went and bought this beast and did it myself..4.5 hrs. and 3 tanks of fuel later the maple was history. I have used many different "affordable brands" in my day, what a waste of money. You may think the MS 291 is pricey, BUT the performance, ease of use, balance, light weight and fuel efficiency of this machine is worth every dollar. The Ferrari of chain saws in my opinion.
