  • STIHL Quickstop® Plus (Q) - an additional chain braking feature

  • STIHL Electric Brushless Motor
Lightweight and compact, STIHL electric motors require minimal maintenance and feature low noise levels and reduced vibration.
  • STIHL Quickstop®
STIHL chainsaws are equipped with a chain stopping system designed to reduce the risk of injury in certain kickback situations. It is called a STIHL Quickstop® chain brake. The STIHL Quickstop® chain brake is designed to stop the rotation of the chain if activated by the operator’s hand or by inertia if the saw kicks back with sufficient force. In some working positions, the STIHL Quickstop® chain brake can be activated by inertia, stopping the chain within fractions of a second.

  • Rubberized Soft Touch Handle
Soft rubber texture is both easy to grip and makes the product comfortable to hold for extended periods.
  • Ematic™ Lubrication System
The Ematic™ guide bar, when used with STIHL OILOMATIC® saw chain, will provide proper lubrication and less oil consumption than conventional methods. The system works because two ramps, strategically placed in the guide bar rail, help contain the flow of oil and direct all lubrication to the sliding faces of the bar and chain links as well as the rivets and driver holes, which in turn can reduce bar oil consumption up to 50%.
  • Quick Chain Adjuster (QCA) (B)
The Quick Chain Adjuster (QCA) (B) allows the user to adjust the tension of the chain without the use of tools. This allows for easy chain adjustment.
  • Lightweight Portability
Great for maneuverability and extended use.

Important Information

WARNING! The occurrence called “kickback” can cause serious or fatal injury. Always read the instruction manual carefully before using your saw. STIHL uses a green and yellow color-coding system to help you select a powerhead, bar and chain combination that complies with the kickback requirements of ANSI Standard B175.1 (gasoline-powered saws) and §30 of UL 1662/ ANSI Standard B175.1 (electric chainsaws). Ask your STIHL dealer about safe operating procedures and the advantages of the STIHL Quickstop® chain brake, STIHL Quickstop® Plus (Q) additional chain braking feature, STIHL reduced kickback bars and STIHL low-kickback saw chains.

STIHL recommends the use of green reduced kickback bars and green low kickback chains on all STIHL chainsaws.

* The actual listed guide bar length can vary from the effective cutting length based on which powerhead it is installed on.

WARNING FOR CORDED ELECTRIC AND BATTERY CHAINSAW USERS! The fibers may not stop the sprocket on most corded electric chainsaws and some battery-powered chainsaws because of the constant high torque. However, to reduce the severity of injury from accidental contact with the chain, STIHL recommends that leg protection be worn when operating these types of chainsaws.

WARNING! Improper use of any power tool may cause serious or fatal injury. Read, understand and follow carefully the operating and safety instructions in your instruction manual before using such products.

MSA 140 C-BQ is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from very versatile saw Light weight, easy access under bushes/brush, operating time on battery is pretty good and can make quite a lot of cuts on a charge. Happy with unit in clearing off a acre plus of heavy/thick brush. It is on the pricey side for a small saw, in comparison to the much bigger/powerful gas powered saws. C.D. Zook

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Underpowered Nice saw that is easy to use and muck quieter than a gas saw. Enough power to cut small branches up to about twp inches. Not enough power for much else. Expensive for what it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent saw. I knew it was a great product. It exceeded my expectations and then some. Even cuts seasoned Walnut with ease. Makes my tree care and cleanup a breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very convenient chainsaw This saw has a surprising amount of oomph when you cut into a branch. I use it mainly for pruning up overgrown trees and shrubs. Very convenient no-tools adjustment for chain tension - wish my gas chainsaws had same feature. Saw is quite strong for the weight, and size makes it work great in tight spots. It's comfortable to hold and doesn't vibrate at all. Haven't used it a lot, yet, but very impressed so far.And it is soooo nice not to have to worry with getting a gas chainsaw to crank, which, as any homeowner can tell you, can be a pain. Especially if it is not used regularly. Now, just plug in the battery, and it's ready to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent mini saw This saw very under rated! I have cut & trimmed trees & limbs up to 20” in diameter! Did have to recharge battery every 45 min of use. Also since I only have 1battery would have to put in freezer for about 10 min after use before I could charge! Just finished cutting down full size tree 30’ high x 20”+ trunk! Not recommended but possible! I had to recharge 6 times! And no issues with chain!! FYI for all you very skilled operators just KEEP chain out of dirt!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from More like a pole saw than a chain saw I thought I had read up enough on this saw before buying it, but obviously I bought the wrong saw. It seems much like a souped up pole chainsaw for light branch work than a chainsaw that can do any real work. The chain is so small that it dulls easily when trying to cut into a 12" oak branch. Battery life is never an issue, The chain gives out long before the battery. Unfortunately the MSA 140 has only one bar/chain option. If you are just trying to replace a bow saw, this model will work. If you actually need a chainsaw, go with something bigger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for around the yard I love this little bad boy! Lots of cutting power relative to it's weight, quiet effortless operation, and very light weight. I was just a tiny bit disappointed that it bogged down as quickly as it did when cutting through a 14" piece of oak... but my expectations of Stihl products are high for a reason! All in all I imagine I'll be grabbing this one a lot more often than my gas powered Stihl because of the convenience and ease of use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Saw! I bought the MSA 140 for my wife and she loves it! She can take care of everything herself. NO FUEL TO MIX! Just charge the battery. So far, she hasn't run out of battery. I mean she's not cutting a cord of wood.Although I love my gas big-boy Stihl, I have found myself using hers for trimming and for cutting smaller pieces of firewood to fit in our wood stove.A great purchase! We love it!
