A fuel-efficient shredder vac/blower with the convenience of the Easy2Start™ System.

Product Description

The SH 56 C-E shredder vac turns yard work into less work. The fuel-efficient STIHL gasoline-powered engine really brings the power to the specially designed blade on the fan wheel – cutting yard waste down to size. Better yet, this versatile STIHL tool offers one power tool that does the work of two. It comes standard with the necessary parts to easily convert the shredder vac into a handheld blower. And as it shreds, the clippings accumulate in a secure, easy-open zippered bag for convenient emptying. And with the STIHL Easy2Start™ system, starting is easy – almost effortless.

Model Features

  • STIHL Easy2Start™
The STIHL Easy2Start™ system makes starting STIHL® outdoor power tools almost effortless, eliminating the need for a strong pull of the starting cord. This advanced starting system is designed to make starting STIHL® products fast and easy. The specific system may vary by model, but in each case, a quick pull overcomes the engine’s compression to minimize the strength and effort required to start. Available on selected products.
  • Shoulder Strap
The STIHL shoulder strap allows for greater maneuverability and helps reduce operator fatigue, allowing the user to work comfortably.
  • Multi-Function Control Handle
Having easy access to all of the controls on one comfortable handle helps makes it easier to complete tasks so the operator’s hand never has to leave the handle.
  • Purge Pump Primer
The purge pump primer feature enables the user to prime the carburetor with fuel, enabling easier starting. The purge pump primer is designed in a way that the operator cannot flood the machine by priming the carburetor too many times. Flooding the engine is still possible if the choke is not removed after the engine fires.

SH 56 C-E is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 129.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality product Good quality, good power. I have only used the vacuum to this point. It doesn't like pinecones very well as they get caught in the fan. Otherwise it is a great product

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Take all reviews with a grain of salt except this one! My only regret for purchasing the Stihl SH56 C-E was not buying it when they first came on the market. I read a lot of the reviews and saw complaints that it's hard to start...WRONG! I read that it was hard to switch from blower to mulcher....WRONG! I have used it to clear my lawn of leaves by blowing them onto a tarp. I have mulched leaves along with a few acorns. I have blown light snow falls off my driveway and side walks. All in all it's a great machine that has saved me a lot of work and time! Funny, since I purchased mine my neighbors must have noticed and now I see three more of them in the neighborhood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to start easy to use Bought this leaf blower/shedder-vac last year have had no problems starts even in frigid weather on 2nd or 3rd pull. Vac is strong enough to suck up wet leaves. Blower can reach out to long distances to blow leaves off of pool cover. Have always liked Stihl's reliability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shredder turns big piles into tiny piles I purchased this shredder vac to deal with a large amount of leaves in a little space. I live in the city under some very old trees. Getting rid of leaves has always been problematic. This shredder converts five 50 gal black trash bags of leaves into one.The power of the shredder is fantastic. Small twigs etc are no challenge. This shredder vac meets all of my needs and expectations. Easy start, powerful and makes quick work of leaf clean up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The blower is OK but the vac is grossly under powered - performance is poor at best I have a larger blower backpack from Stihl that is excellent. Purchased the Vac. specifically for cleaning leaves and pinestraw from beds...Brought it from ACE in Pawleys...after 10 min of operations realized it was a bad decision and tried to take it back...ACE would not honor a return.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Underrated...great tool! This unit is basically the same as the 56c but it comes with the leaf vac tube, elbow, and bag for only $20 more. I read lots of reviews with people complaining about how hard it is to switch it from blower to's not. You just have to use a tool (which can be a nail, key, screwdriver, etc...) to depress a tab, it's not a tool-less design. It's simple enough to do for the added security of the tubes staying attached! I think many are trying to remove the tubes by hand without depressing the tab. The blower is plenty powerful for the average homeowner. This is not marketed or sold as the commercial use version. You have guys complaining that it's underpowered but they are trying to use it for professional lawn care when this isn't the tool for that. They should spend the extra money to get the 86. Hard to start? Mine started on the 2nd pull. Fill this with 89 grade gas mixed with stihl 50:1 oil and you won't have any problems. I'm not a fanboy, but I bought the kombi system this spring with trimmer and edged attachments. It worked so well I bought this stihl product too. If they keep performing, I'll keep buying them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for ME! I live on a half acre lot in S Texas that mostly has San Augustine grass, one Live Oak tree and a few hundred feet of sidewalks/walkways/flowerbeds + landscaping around pool. I have lived here for a year now. Until I bought the FS 56 I spent most of my yard-work days mowing, then playing the clean up game. This meant blowing down my sidewalks, piling it all up, then collecting the piles of grass trimmings and oak leaves by hand; be it by rake and broom in the sidewalks or with the pool skimmer. This shredder vac has changed my yard work days tremendously! FOR THE BETTERI have pretty much put my blower and rake away. On days that it's not too windy I am able to keep all my trimmings in a nice straight line with the edges of the walkways. (Especially on the days that I use my 56 edger, that's another review). With all the trimmings in a straight line I can run this SH 56 shredder vac right down the line at a steady pace walking backwards and it picks up everything. Keep in mind I'm not dealing with any big sticks or pine needles, but this thing just picks up everything for me. The bag fills up one and a half times for me on my 0.5 acre lot. I'd say I shed vac the whole place in fifteen minutes. The shredder blade is a lot beefier than I thought it would be. It looks like it will last a long time. The bag with strap fits over my neck onto right shoulder and it goes on and comes off easily. The industrial zipper works and empties the bag easily into my yard waste can. One neat thing about the bag is that it feels cool on your side while the motor is running, which is a plus in this Texas heat. The vac tube is a little short for me being 6'1", but doable. I just can't reach far with this short tube, Perhaps my wife or upcoming kids will be able to use it better since they are shorter. I see the first wear parts being the air filter since it's just a foam filter and the tube tip as it scrapes along the sidewalks then finally the shredder blade. All easy to replace parts. Starts easily. Just 2 or 3 presses on the primer bulb, a rip or two on choke, a rip or two on half choke, let it run for a ten count and go. This shredder vac is money well spent for ME!I would not want to work with it on large lots or on large PILES of leaves or anywhere with lots of rocks and gravel. I bet it would suck up the rocks and hurt the shredder blade and bag. YMMV.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Moderate power, plastic broke first time I tried to remove the vac tube Struggles to pick up many parts and pieces. Bought it for my pool deck. It will pick up debris if you have the about on the ground but then you wear it out dragging it. Plastic tabs on motor broke the first time I tried to remove the vacuum tube. Not happy with my purchase.
