STIHL shredder vacs are all about shredding yard waste without shredding your budget. Each STIHL shredder vac is actually two powerful tools in one: A powerful shredder capable of transforming the equivalent of 14 bags of dry leaves into a single bag of clippings, as well as a fuel-efficient blower. And it comes standard with the necessary parts to convert easily to a handheld blower and back to a shredder, depending on your task. To help you identify model features, look for these corresponding symbols: C = Comfort feature and E = Easy2Start™.

After the leaves and yard clippings have been gathered, it’s time to shred. Each STIHL shredder vac features a specially designed shredder blade located on the fan wheel. This efficient design reduces yard waste at a 14:1 ratio for dry leaves. And as it shreds, the clippings accumulate in a secure, easy-open zippered bag for convenient emptying. The tube makes it easy to get in and between shrubs and other hard-to-reach places.

    Excellent
I'm a property manager on a large estate. Needed a quality vac/shredder for cleaning up clipping. flower beds, and fish flies. This exceeded my every expectation. Handles cedar, arb, grass, and boxwood clippings very well, even large wet piles of them. Also takes care of small sticks, dirt, and wood chips. Turns large piles into small bits very well. I was impressed on what it could shred. Not sure if the new model has a better bag then the others, But I get no dust blow through at all with ... read more this. Worth every penny for yard clean up and touch ups.

    Good Blower, mediocre vaccuum
It blows leaves well, but the vacuum side leaves much to be desired. If you have smaller light weight leaves, it should do fine, but if you have thicker larger leaves like red oak, it tends to bridge at the opening and leaf collecting becomes a slow process. If your leaves are wet, that complicates matters even further. I ended up buying a used troy built chipper/shredder to handle the leaf shredding. Bottom line, it's a good blower, but don't buy it expecting it to wow you with it's vacuum capabilities.

Upgrade over the 56 is worth it
One of the main differences between the 86 and 56 is the anti-vibration handle. After blowing and vacuuming my yard for about 2 hours, I am glad I went this route. When vacuuming, it is best to ensure the material is very dry as wet material has a tendency to accumulate in the shredder blades. The conversion from blower to vacuum could be improved by simplifying the door latch release. This is honestly my only complaint. Starts easy, runs well, more than enough power to blow and vacuum. After ... read more using the product for a few weeks, it is still to early to rate dependability, but I suspect no issues as long as you maintain the equipment.

This blow/vac is worth every penny!!!
I've owned this product for about six weeks and have used it every weekend. I've used the shredder system twice. The easy to start system STIHL has is second to none. I've tried several other brands, and finally decided to spend the extra money and get a well known and reliable blow/vac. I wish I would have bought this a long time ago. The ease of use is superb. Switching over from blower to shredder is very easy; Especially after you do it the first time. Don't waste your money on other ... read more brands. Bite the bullet and get a STIHL.

    After six months
Good concept, but has its limitations. I bought this as light duty blower and shredder for my landscaping business. It is six months old. First the cons. DO NOT buy the model with EZ recoil. After the guys stretched the internal spring 4 or 5 times, I coverted to the traditional recoil. Now it is durable! The other negative is the shredder has limitations. Not intended for big jobs or wet material, otherwise it works great. For the pros, light weight, agile, decent blower performance for a small ... read more package, great in small places, and reliable motor.

Great vacuum for those tight places in your yard
This thing does what it is designed to do. Great for vacuuming up leaves all over the yard. Instead of making a mess trying to blow leaves out of tight areas you can vacuum and be done. I only use the vac on dryer leaves so I haven't had any clogging problems. Great also for clean up after edging, mowing etc. Bag can get heavy as it fills but that just tells you its time to dump. Runs like a champ. So easy to start. Very happy with my purchase as I am with my Stihl chain saw.
