Add a Landscape Feature

Including a large landscape feature, like a dry creek bed, is a great way to add some dimension to your front yard. Follow the steps below on how to make a dry creek bed to help add curb appeal to your home.

Supplies Needed:
  • Shovel
  • Boulders (or any type of larger rock)
  • Gardening fabric
  • Decorative pebbles (various sizes)
  • Landscape Gloves
  • Glasses
  • Decorative Plants
  • Landscape staples

STEP 1: Dig out Area

Once you have a defined area, dig out the center - about one foot deep. Lightly grate up the edges.

STEP 2: Place Boulders

Carefully roll the boulders (or larger type of rock) into place surrounding the dug up area. You may need an extra set of hands here.

STEP 3: Protect Area from Weeds

Line the creek with landscape fabric to help keep the weeds out.

Helpful Hint: Tuck the fabric underneath some of the boulders, then use landscape staples to hold it in place where needed

STEP 4: Fill the Bed

Fill the bed with pebbles - from largest to smallest - to fill all the gaps

STEP 5 (Optional): Add Flowers

Add visual interest with plants at the head of the feature or along the sides.
