STIHL Inc. is proud to support The Nature Conservancy and its Healthy Trees, Healthy Cities initiative and the Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future (LEAF) program. The Nature Conservancy is a leading conservation organization working around the world to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. The Conservancy and its more than 1 million members have protected nearly 120 million acres worldwide. These Conservancy programs are advancing the health of urban forests by encouraging people to plant and care for urban trees. In addition to partially funding the programs, we are making tree care professionals available to assist in intern training.
About Healthy Trees, Healthy Cities
Healthy Trees, Healthy Cities is The Nature Conservancy’s first comprehensive program to advance forest conservation in the cities of North America. Healthy Trees, Healthy Cities engages city residents in the appreciation, care, and stewardship of community trees and parks, and inspires a new generation of environmental stewards and supporters. The program promotes practical and applicable science through urban forest studies that highlight the benefits that urban trees provide to people and nature. It also works to improve the health, diversity, and sustainability of urban forests, assisting cities in meeting tree canopy enhancement goals and regenerates resilient urban forests.
The Conservancy’s LEAF program aims to prepare and empower the next generation of leaders from cities across the United States through environmental internships. Interns develop valuable leadership and employment skills through workshops, career exploration experiences, and individual urban conservation projects of their own design. LEAF interns also serve as conservation leaders in their own communities by educating the public about urban tree health. The program has a tremendous impact on their lives—opening their eyes to career possibilities, building self-confidence, independence, work skills, conservation literacy and a love of the outdoors.
